Do your thing~

Oh, Happy Chinese New Year! Let’s start my (supposedly) bad-luck Goat Year with the now-mandatory Letterboxd list of my film collection~

I have a really weird history with films– born in the late 80s, you’d think I would’ve grown watching loads of 90s kids stuff, but I actually grew up with a lot of Silly Symphonies (which were released in the 30s) and loads of Disney 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s stuff, plus a lot of more grown up 80s movies. Poltergeist, The Thing, The Fly and The Stuff were particularly scary stuff (and I’m pretty sure I was scared of yogurt or white stuff at some point).

I don’t ever remember buying any original VHS tape, except for the rare birthday gift of a Disney’s Sing-Along Songs chapter or that X-Men tape I have. My first DVDs buys were Coyote Ugly, She’s All That and Loser — you can’t blame me. I was a 15-year-old girl. The collection grew bigger, and possibly exploded during my years abroad. I’m nearing my 500th movie.

I’ve got some pretty nice recommendations to share.

Sorry, late post~

The Ghost Writer blew pretty much everything on this one, which makes me even sadder that there isn’t a Supporting Actress (or Actor) category, so Olivia Williams could win.

I’m also happy that Sylvain Chomet’s The Illusionist won animated feature~ :)

I’m never really good with Satellite Awards, I always forget them. But then again, there’s so many Satellite nominees per category… it seems a bit excessive. It’s like chucking all the best performances of the year, instead of choosing five spots even if three good performances will be left out.

And when there’s not enough good performances… they just fill the category up!

Inception is leading this one ;P

Wow, can you imagine Foster and Winslet playing opposite, neck to neck?

an adaptation of Yazmina Reza’s acclaimed play ‘God of Carnage’, about two sets of parents who meet for a civilized confrontation after their kids get into a fight on the playground. As the evening proceeds, though, the conversation devolves into rage, prejudice, and homophobia.

I just spent nearly 2hrs. posting this somewhere else, and I still need to email everyone. LOL

Without further ado,

YAM011.

Sorry, in Spanish only.

Still there are 2 missing xD and gonna get 2 more tomorrow. Hopefully, I will catch up tomorrow afternoon.

Finally watched Polanski’s The Ghost Writer. In short, very well done. Loads of thrills, melodrama, some humor… loads of politics. Having said that, Olivia Williams needs more attention. She was pretty great last season with An Education — and was completely snubbed –, and she’s always been interesting on screen.

Every time I bring up her name, people say “who?”

And you must know her for sure! I mean, she was on Dollhouse~~~ and she had a cameo on X-Men The Last Stand, She was Mrs. Darling on Peter Pan. She was also on The Body with Antonio Banderas, she started out as Bruce Willis’ wife on The Sixth Sense, and was on Wes Anderson’s Rushmore. WTF, she’s been a working actress for almost 20 years~

On The Ghost Writer? She pretty much blew me away. The question is, should she be going for Best Actress, or just go for Best Supporting? Supporting acting always gives good results.

I’m just gonna re-post what I wrote on Facebook xD

WOAHHHH, Stella Artois and The Auteurs are letting us watch 6 films for free. What’s better? They are 6 GREAT FILMS. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Polanski’s Repulsion this has been changed for
– Walkabout
– Russian Ark
– Lars Von Trier’s Europa
– Hirokazu Koreeda’s Daremo Shiranai (Nobody Knows)
– Tropical Malady
Hou Hsiao-hsien’s Three Times this has been changed for
– Faust

Just head over there, login and watch.

And remember… if you snooze, you lose.
I’d better watch Tropical Malady before it’s gone like Three Times. xD
