Archives For bbc

I’m one of the very few people that actually enjoyed The Golden Compass, and I must admit that I’m always the skeptic, but this latest trailer for HBO-BBC’s His Dark Materials adaptation has raised my expectations. I’m never a fan of season series, but I’ll allow three for this, of course.

I’m a hyper-real animation skeptic, as well. But it certainly works best in mixed media than *coughliveactionremakescough*.

I hope there’s blood in the bear fight. That always irked me.

I finally took the time to catch up with all seasons of Orphan Black, which I had trouble sitting through during its first season… even though I think I might have actually sat through those 10 episodes on reruns without knowing they were 10 episodes. there’s a slump there somewhere between the first 3-4 eps, but once you go through that threshold, it’s a breeze worth the binge-watch. Season 2 flowed better as a viewing experience because half the first part rides on its S1 high and it sets itself for Season 3, which doesn’t glide as smoothly.

But feelings have been had. In terms of Sarah dealing with Beth in a near-death dream sequence that totally reminded me of the Buffy episode, Restless… which interestingly fits into Season 4 of that show where they also deal with the military and conspiracies xD

Feelings were also had because of that messy relationship between Cosima and Delphine, sidetracked by Shay. I haven’t had the fandom feels in so long… and it’s Cosima’s relationships because Sarah-Paul is so impersonal, and Cal -as good as he may be- has been mostly off-screen history. It’s Cosima and Delphine because I’m a sucker for that “I’ll give you up for you” thing, and Cosima with Shay because- man, Shay’s gotta be bad for Cosima’s heart. She seems soooooooooo damn good and caring, it’s gotta be setting up a heartbreak even though it would be “Delphine is your monitor 2.0” and it’s only been freaking 19min. of them together through the whole season.

And man is Ksenia Solo as Shay the type. Yup, there’s a type. Carly Pope meets Juno Temple. lol

When I was little — maybe between the ages of 4 and 6 — I used to watch a really worn out tape (maybe transferred from a Betamax tape to a VHS one) about a huge furry green alien whose name was Muzzy- Big Muzzy. Many years later, many courses of English after and once the internet became a reliable search tool, I came to learn that the movie… a BBC educational video, was called Muzzy in Gondoland, though I knew it as “The Big Muzzy Story.”

As a Spanish speaker, I don’t recall ever understanding English growing up. Though I had some games and watched some animated shorts and movies in English, I don’t think the language ever registered as a language. I recall I was dreadful at it in school until I turned 10 or so and began attending classes after school. I’ve been speaking English more than half my life already, and it’s the language I primarily work in. I read, write, listen to… and consume most of my media in English. I don’t think I dream 100% in the language, but I’m known for having dreams I don’t understand — I don’t think I’ve dreamed in Mandarin, but I’ve had chunks of them in Japanese and most notable in Korean, even though my Korean abilities reach the levels of greetings, the random “I miss you,” or “this is my friend,” as well as the very helpful “I’m hungry” or “my tummy hurts.” I can also request things with the very useful three-year-old Korean level phrase of “item- chuseyo” LOL

The preferable term would be “cookie” though I’m sure Muzzy would prefer clocks or parking meters.

Anyway, I found two copies of Muzzy in Gondoland. The one that’s split in 8 segments has the original audio I remember as a child. While this version that lasts 2.30hr seems to have different voices for Sylvia, Bob The Gardener and Covax. I’m 50/50 on the voice of the Queen.

Apparently there are updates in different languages like French, Mandarin and Spanish redone in basic 3D with segments in Flash. Have been watching the French one, and they’ve omitted the fact that the Queen is fat. Obviously because it’s not politically correct to call someone fat nowadays, and the Queen does so in the adjective section. Plus, the King flatly calls her fat with the exclamation “You are fat!” which obviously is kind of ridiculous. LOL

Also, the AEIOU song doesn’t translate well.

I also found the original animation in Esperanto.

I’ve got some pretty nice recommendations to share.

I’m in the mood for some Sally singing Susan, The Happy Trotting Elf~

Though, moment starts exactly at 1:11

I’m Susan the happy trotting elf! I trot and trot, and bounce and bounce, and smile a lot, and that’s what counts! I’m Susan the happy trotting smile a-lotting elf! I’m polite so just for clarity, when I’m cross I say “Apparently!”

Okay, other than BBC (and every other channel) showing the Royal Wedding all freaking day long, it was pretty impossible not to know about it. Whether you love them or hate them.

It was pretty horrible with even CNN, which made me wonder if they were going to talk about the flavor of the wedding cake.

Here!

I dunno what the flavor was, though.

This is a rant. xD

I’ve never been religious… I was as catholic as a 5-year-old could get when their aunts are catholic/christian. Every time we would cross a local church, I would do the cross sign, and I had at least once done the local church tour for Easter week.

I have the utmost respect for people and their selected religion.

However, it really irks me when religious people go on and put down other religion’s beliefs, which is the worse kind of religion and the preferred type churches want their followers to have.

It’s such a pity, because religion can be such a fulfilling experience to some. It makes your life lighter, and sometimes it can get you going.

Guys, you can be logical and have faith. It’s like that bit on Peter Pan. I do believe in fairies, I do! I do! It’s a wonderful thing to have, and to feel.

It is common knowledge that I’m not really partial to un-scripted television. I grew up with things like MTV’s The Real World in the background of my mind, sometimes watching it quietly when I was a teen. But then it just exploded, and it’s not like I’m bothered by the actual programs… what bothers me is that contestants later become “celebrities”. It’s like being a celebrity means nothing. You can eat crap (literally) for money, win and become a “celebrity”. That’s sad.

Having said that, I have a few shows that I do watch. It doesn’t have to do with who’s in it, or who’s going to be in it… who says it’s what, or if it’s hot or not to watch it.

It’s simply 3 things I would like to be able to do.

First, dancing.

I approve. =)

Mama Mia!’s director Phyllida Lloyd is apparently working on Margaret Thatcher biopic for BBC and Pathé, and it seems like Streep is in talks to play Thatcher. EEK! And Jim Broadbent is in talks to play Thatcher’s husband. EEK!

The biopic will center around 1982, during the Falklands War (or Las Malvinas ;P), which lasted 74 days… ultimately, winning her the elections in 1983.

via Empire Online.

Of course Streep is in talks. Everyone wants Streep to read their script. Who wouldn’t? Right? Plus, Thatcher is such a fascinating contemporary subject. You gotta admit, without Thatcher’s gov. Britain would have continued with the recession… and you’d be worse than you guys are now. Actually, now that I think about it… the Conservatives always get the country in a crappy state, eh? xD
