Back in 2002 and 2003… and maybe half of 2004, I was the hugest Evan Rachel Wood fan on this side of the world. I mean, I used to watch every weekend Sony’s reruns of Once & Again, so when I moved to Canada and saw that I would be able to watch Thirteen at the cinemas, I was thrilled. I probably should still have my used ticket somewhere.

Anyway, after Thirteen came and went, Wood began to be cast oftentimes as the Lolita of the films she chose to make. They weren’t bad films, but her choice of roles seemed to be getting boring. Down in the Valley (with Edward Norton) wasn’t a bad film, but it was a pretty average role of the young girl that sleeps with the older guy and stuff happens. Then came Running with Scissors (directed by Ryan Murphy, and working alongside Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin and Gwyneth Paltrow) which wasn’t really a bad film either.

It wasn’t until King of California (with Michael Douglas) came out that I started to pay attention again. That was followed by The Life Before her Eyes (with Uma Thurman, directed by Vadim Perelman of House of Sand and Fog fame), and eventually ended up working as Lucy on the dramedy/musical Across the Universe. I’m pretty much sold right there and then~

Last year, she showed up on a bit of The Wrestler, so any Aronofsky film on anyone’s filmography is cool on my books, and then showed up on Woody Allen’s Whatever Works with a pretty hilarious southern accent. She is currently working as an over-sexed (most likely) vampire lady on the HBO True Blood with fellow actress Anna Paquin.

Next up for Wood, The Conspirator directed by Robert Redford with James McAvoy, Robin Wright Penn, Kevin Kline, Tom Wilkinson and Alexis Bledel. Worth to keep an eye on her ;P

Together – Adidas’ Beijing Olympics by PSYOP

Overall, the marketing campaigns for everything that had to do with the Olympics was pretty awesome. China outdid itself with everything from architecture, urban design, print campaigns, tv campaigns, etc.

This particular commercial (the series of commercials, and print ads) was very moving to me. I remember the first time I saw it, it kinda made me all fuzzy inside especially when we reach the volleyball sequence, with the music and the people behind them. Very emotional.

To Watch Until They’re 30 – Michael Angarano

We’re closing in the Top 3 Actors list, with Michael Angarano on the #3 spot. xD

Angarano seems to be acting for what feels like forever. He’s appeared as the kiddo who thought was a teen on the critically-acclaimed Almost Famous. He’s also been on Lords of Dogtown (with The 20 to Watch fellow Emile Hirsch, Heath Ledger, and fellow who didn’t make it Melonie Diaz), Snow Angels (with fellow The 20 to Watch Olivia Thirlby), Man in the Chair, and even dared to share the screen with bombastic martial artists Jackie Chan and Jet Li on The Forbidden Kingdom. Oh, yeah… and he’s also been the non-gay kiddo of our favorite gay Jack McFarland on Will & Grace.

Next up for him is Noah’s Ark: The New Beginning, an animation featuring Michael Keaton, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Marcia Gay Harden. And after that, there’s Ceremony with Uma Thurman and Lee Pace.

I still wanna see what’s in store for him~

This is, obviously, a request post… as well as a filler post. xD

Basically, I’m kind of tired… and lazy to “try” to translate, what I don’t get.

So I’m asking anyone who has an understanding of Japanese, and has a small interest in Yu Aoi work to help us poor non-Japanese speakers with translations. There are all these bunch of scans out there, but none of them are translated or even commented on, so it’d be great to at least know what they talk about, right?

Then there’s the video interviews… and then there’s some of those projects that never see the light of fansub day. LOL – So I want fans to gather here, all translation credit would go to the people translating.

So just putting this out there…

To Watch Until They’re 30 – Carey Mulligan

We have actually already spotted Carey Mulligan on this site, and she’s on the #5 spot of the list of 20 Actors Between 20-25 to Watch Until They’re 30… on the Actress list.

Man, what a year Carey Mulligan has had, and with award season coming our way, we can only wait to see her more often, and everywhere. As of Oct. 15, Mulligan still leads the Oscar for Best Actress race for her role on An Education, and it’s been that way since July… and ever since the film premiered at Sundance.

She seems to capture your attention on screen, even in small roles like on My Boy Jack (with fellow The 20 to Watch Daniel Radcliffe), and she seems to have a certain maturity on screen that doesn’t make you think “oh, look at this girl,” but it’s more like “look at this woman.”

If she wins Best Actress (or just gets nominated), that’s enough reason to keep an eye on her future roles.

Yu Aoi: Filmography 2001-2009

A regular person would have 8 or 9 films, on this video you’ll get to see clips for 27 films (though a few of those are just blink and miss them, or just a still). I’ve seen most but 6 films, I think. I’m still looking for 1980, and JUKAI.

Plus, this is the best way to choose what Yu film you wanna watch~ xD

Un Grito de Amor Desde el Centro del Mundo by Kyoichi Katayama

kyoichi-katayama-un-grito-de-amor-desde-el-centro-del-mundoSo this month I bought a whole (and I mean like half a dozen) books because I felt like I had been spending all my money on music and movies, and had stopped reading. To be honest, I was beginning to feel like I was being a little ignorant on everything that had to do with books xD

So I grabbed everything Asian I could find on the shelf, including this Alfaguara Spanish translation of Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World (aka Socrates in Love, aka SEKACHU in short Katakana xD) by Kyoichi Katayama. The book sprang a manga series, as well as a film (starring Masami Nagasawa, Mirai Moriyama and Kou Shibasaki), and a TV drama… as well as other Asian remakes, namely Korean. xD

The book is about the tragic young love of Sakutaro and Aki, and it was apparently very well-received by the public in Japan because of its theme. The Spanish translation is a bit idiotic, some of the words used are very Mexican in use, so I didn’t really know what it meant. The story is super short, but it expands a long period of time so the story feels rushed and characters are barely examined.

For example, I’m not really sure why should I care much for Aki, other than Sakutaro having a crush (or being in love with her), I am led to believe she is good nature, a good student, shy, and a regular kawaii girl, but I’ve no idea what makes her tick, what are her passions. I don’t relate to her… or him. I know he cares for her, I also know he contemplated getting under her panties or wanted to touch her. I know they are supposed to have developed a deep friendship, but it’s not on the book. I know people begin to see them as one, and I’m a sucker for this type of relationships, but it’s not on the book.

If I want to see sweet tragic love, I’ll get Sweet November (though, I haven’t read the book), but the movie starring Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves (though badly received by critics) made me so sad.
