So… casting over at the current NHK Taiga drama gets even more interesting with the announcement that Yusuke Iseya will be playing Takasugi Shinsaku, samurai friend of Ryomaden.
His first appearance will be in the episode scheduled to air on July 18th. It starts from the scene where Ryoma meets Shinsaku and other Choshu samaurai by chance at a restaurant in Nagasaki.
Suzuki Kei, the chief producer, explained: “Ryoma and Shinsaku both died young, had an unconventional fashion sense, dreamed of activity overseas, there were a lot of common features between them. We’ll be depicting them as ‘having the same soul,’ the friendship and intermingling of two people as soulmates.”

I gotta be honest with you, I haven’t kept up with Ryomaden, mainly because it just gets a really difficult time-slot here. It airs like at 6am, and then it re-airs at 1pm… Maybe NHK should really think about differing their transmission. But then I would be complaining about that too, right?
Six Degrees of separation! Well, not really… Yu Aoi — anyone knows when her character will show up? — played opposite Yusuke Iseya on Honey & Clover. Their names also appeared together on Tekkonkinkreet… and Tekkon is much cooler than HachiKURO xD

I am all over Ip Man at the moment. So really, there’s no better way to kick of the New York Asian Film Festival than with the American premiere of Ip Man 2, which its pure kick-ass and feeling for martial arts. Sammo Hung will also be there, so that’s pretty kick-ass too.
But the biggest news is that Tetsuya Nakashima’s latest film Kokuhaku (Confessions), which will open in Japan on June 5th, will be the Centerpiece presentation. According to Subway Cinema News, Kokuhaku has left dumbfounded at the market screening in Cannes. Must be the LSD on Nakashima’s film-making.
Can’t effing wait for it now.

Last night was the Whedon episode, featuring Neil Patrick Harris.
Can I just say I love NPH even more?
Glee didn’t quite feel like Glee with Whedon directing. Maybe it was because the episode wasn’t really over-the-top like other times, but it wasn’t overly sappy, either. Whedon’s style seems to just flow… or maybe it was the storyline.
Anyway… did you miss the irony of this one scene?

The war against movie piracy is getting downright explosive. The producers of the Oscar-winning “The Hurt Locker” are preparing a massive lawsuit against thousands of individuals who pirated the film online. The case could be filed as soon as Wednesday.
Voltage Pictures, the banner behind the best picture winner, has signed up with the U.S. Copyright Group, the Washington D.C.-based venture that, as first reported in March, has begun a litigation campaign targeting tens of thousands of BitTorrent users.

And yes, I may not buy as much as I used to when I was a teenager, but that’s only because I buy pricier items and I’m more exigent with what I want. Dude, I just made a $50USD pre-order from Japan… for ONE ITEM. Without counting the 9 films I just bought from a second-hand store. Sucks to be you, but really…
How do you want me to feel happy spending my dollars in a product sponsored by someone I don’t like? As good as the product can be, I’m not letting my money get into your pockets that easily. And that producer from The Hurt Locker is just making it easier to feel less guilty over not paying for his film.
Hi Nicholas, please feel free to leave your house open every time you go out and please tell your family to do so, please invite people in the streets to come in and take things from you, not to make money out of it by reselling it but just to use it for themselves and help themselves. If you think it’s normal they take my work for free, I’m sure you will give away all your furniture and possessions and your family will do the same. I can also send you my bank account information since apparently you work for free and your family too so since you have so much money you should give it away… I actually like to pay my employees, my family, my bank for their work and like to get paid for my work. I’m glad you’re a moron who believes stealing is right. I hope your family and your kids end up in jail one day for stealing so maybe they can be taught the difference. Until then, keep being stupid, you’re doing that very well. And please do not download, rent, or pay for my movies, I actually like smart and more important HONEST people to watch my films.

Once again, I take the time to highlight the fact that you may not be losing your money to the people who download the most, because it is very likely they are the ones that buy the most DVDs, albums, or pay for a digital copy when it is finally available. However, you are losing money if the people are watching your film from the pirated copy that someone has sold them.
As much as you’d like to fit your car-lending to a stranger metaphor , it isn’t quite like that. Toyota can’t tell whether me or not I can lend my car to my cousin, or that I can’t borrow his Nissan for a spin. Sadly, Social media has established that you do not need to be close to call someone a “friend”. Hence, all people borrowing and lending from each other online wouldn’t really be just “people in the street”, but just friends doing what friends have done since they have been able to copy stuff from one source to the other.
As a person working with design and art, I do understand the concerns. I don’t mind if people save one of my photographs in their hard disks or print them, however, I would mind if someone took my photograph, uploaded it somewhere else and said that they’re selling photographs.

Seriously, K-Pop fans… you’d look a whole lot less creepy if you decided to post photography credits. They were right there on the Vogue website! I hope I romanized the photographer’s name correctly.
Last Sunday I was browsing channels with my dad, when I stopped on i-Sat. The scene? Two little girls holding hands, and one that looked very curious. She thought to herself, “Men and women get married to then get divorced. Maybe because women can’t get married to other women, they can’t get divorced!” – or something along those lines. Thing is I burst out laughing at that thought.
After the short, I waited for the credits to see if I could get the name of the short. Sadly, i-Sat didn’t subtitled the credits, so I was left hanging, only knowing what the short was about. I had some failed attempts at searching for it, but once I sat on my own computer, I ended up contacting HanCinema, as well as i-Sat — HanCinema replied (with no answer, coz I had no info) in like 10min. while I am still waiting to here anything from i-Sat.
Anyway, because I’m so good at what I do. I found the short. And I also found the way to watch it from the beginning. Yes, I’m that good. LOL
Anyway, the film starts with little Jin-young-ah (“ah” Korean suffix for pet-names), and how she is bored with “kids” her age. She just wants to grow up already. She tells the brief story of how she came to be, and how she ended up living with her now-single mom. You see, her mom still goes to university, and one day when Jin-young-ah is watching tv, her mom tells her she’s having a friend over.

AfterEllen.com also made their annual list of Hot 100 2010 [as well as Top Women of Color, Top Out Women, Top Women over 40], only they made it backwards, so I’m linking you to their last page, and you’re going to have to work your way backwards… Ovbiously, I thought AfterElton worked better because I took the time to look through it more than once to make sure I wasn’t missing anyone.

Not that I don’t appreciate the likes of Alicia Keys, Jennifer Beals, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, the girls from Glee (Cheerios plus Rachel, woah that’s bizarre xD), Meryl (who doesn’t need a last name), Rachel Weisz, Amanda Seyfried (even though the things that are coming out of her mouth lately), Christina Hendricks, Tina Fey, Penelope Cruz, Jodie Foster, Rachel McAdams, the whole cast of The L Word… right? So me, barely scraping made a list of Top East-Asians that you might want to consider for future editions of your Hot 100. I would also offer a weekly/monthly (a la my AfterElton offer), but I don’t think I’m as knowledgeable in this area. I could try pimping Asian talents on a monthly basis if you want xD

I like that you tried to include 1/5 of Asians… but there’s too much Asian hotness in the world to only count Daniel Dae Kim (from Lost), and John Cho… it just makes it seem like you know two Asians in the west.
