Archives For distributors

Dear Sony Japan,

I really want to love you, but I understand our complicated relationship. Every time I pull closer to you, you pull away, retreating to your closed existence where there is only fans of your music in Japan and you forget about me, who just like a person who can’t get enough of this mistreatment keeps coming back to you.

I know I need therapy for this one-sided relationship we got going on.

I am hoping that one day (soon, rather than later) you allow me to love you the way I want to. I don’t want ALL of you, I’d be just happy with short PVs… the one or two-minute clips other companies upload. I can deal with that, but not being able to even BROWSE your content while being able to see it uploaded on my timeline seems like an awfully unfair affair.

Yours faithfully,

your unwilling mistress.

Dear, America Television — aka. Canal 4

Next time you plan to bid for the Olympics~ Please, don’t.

I know I had my issues with you and your coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. But I thought you were just effing around with me because they were the Winter Olympics. Peruvians wouldn’t possibly CARE for WINTER WITH SNOW. Right? So I didn’t think you could do an even WORSE coverage of the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

I mean, I know I thought your promotion for the Olympics was more like some ass-kissing to your Canal 4, showcasing your so-called team (to call it a “so-called team” is even an insult to so-called teams) to cover the games, instead of focusing all your attention on the athletes and the sporting spirit.

You just basically denied the whole country of the Olympic broadcast because you didn’t let ATV do it for you like they did with Beijing [1] [2]. It’s not like I care about your sports commentators (who are idiots), but cutting the Opening Ceremony broadcast right before they were about to light the Olympic Cauldron — which is THE moment the Olympics are about. Canal 4 America Television just cut the broadcast to show your mind-melting trash television, Esto es Guerra.

SERIOUSLY.

America Television, you guys, should be ashamed of yourselves.

PS.: F*ck, Danny Boyle too. Your ceremony was atrocious (except when they lit the Olympic cauldron, which America Television didn’t show hahahaha).

Welcome to another random edition of Wannabe Distributor!

Today’s pick of film is the Taiwan/China co-production of LOVE (愛LOVE).

We’re always bombarded with news at how the music (and movies, and everything else) industry is losing money to piracy, even though we keep hearing all these facts about how Glee has had more songs charted than The Beatles.

When Sarah, from the Music Production Schools’ design team, emailed me this infographic depicting all these facts onto one place… is hard not to share, right?

I won’t lie to you, the numbers are good — though I really don’t know how that works with adjusted inflation — but the numbers also make me sad. To imagine Katy Perry standing on similar ground as MJ or Flo Rida standing on similar ground to The Beatles… or Ke$ha selling MORE than The Beatles. It’s depressing.

Mainly because there are MUCH better artists out there, and half the world haven’t even heard about them. I think it’s a crime that everyone knows Katy Perry, but it’d be rare if someone knows who Shiina Ringo is.

In any case, this is an infographic about sales~ so there you have it.

Full infographic after the break~

I decided to create another feature in here~ The Wannabe Distributor feature!!! Combining my love for film and design, I’m gonna pick films as if I could afford the rights to distribute them, and imagining I really am going to be showing these films at a theater near me, I’m going to pick suitable titles and “create” a campaign to promote it. LOL

My first pick! China’s little movie that could, Love Is Not Blind (失恋33天).

I don’t want to say it’s a sad SAD day, because I’m pretty sure there are so many worse things going on in the world right now, but I was pretty shocked to find this one out after my ISP was wonky and wouldn’t let me on Facebook and Twitter. I seriously could only use Google-based websites and the Chinese ones.

Anyway, Megaupload is dead. Or at least, dead for the moment. I wonder what people that had paid for premium accounts and had loads of files stored are going to do. It’s like… their lives are gone. PUFF! That’s it. I hope they have physical copies or other backup uploads.

Could you imagine the repercussions for all those file upload systems? So uploading your iTunes backups to dropbox would be ilegal, cloud systems wouldn’t really be possible, right?

And what about all those Blogger sites, WordPress and other websites that dedicate to it. Does it mean that all those sites are getting axed next?

Anyway, it always happens this way. A site gets shut down, it gets bought, or something happens to it. There’s people outcry, and we move on to the next thing.

I’m just guessing this is Sony’s fault because Dixie Chicks are signed under Columbia which is part of Sony, which makes it part of this whole SME Content region restriction issue. The Dixie Chicks Vevo channel is half locked for me, and I hate it. I’m sorry for the Dixie Chicks, but I fucking hate their channel.

They were held today at my worst possible timezone. I only made it to the Best Actress award… barely. I was already nodding off, but I had to stay up for that one.

I knew Yun Jeong-hee was pretty much a shoo-in for Best Actress for her amazing role on Poetry — what’s up with all these Korean ahjumas, they are fierce! — but I was secretly rooting for Fan Xu on Aftershocks because her role left me emotionally drained.

Also~~~ APSA > Oscar – why?

Please, awarding Aftershocks, Poetry and Caterpillar? Anyone who awards these, it’s on my good list — even if it’s not an “official” category, Shinobu Terajima winning the Jury Award is big. Oscars will never EVER nominate Shinobu Terajima for Best Actress — unless they surprise me. Please, surprise me  — and they will never ever nominated Yun Jeong-hee either. Considering Japan and Korea chose other films to send…

Anyway! So many awards, eh? Check the sidebar to keep up to date with the Award Season~~~

I could be wrong, but streaming in different sites is not that good for hits, right? Why not just show it in MUBI? After all, don’t you want people to sign up? Anyway, it’s nice that MUBI YouTube lets you embed a whole movie! xD

I haven’t seen it yet.

Watch out for it, it’s almost 2hrs~~~

Not really the best of captures, but we’ll take what we can with YouTube removing stuff. Once again, YouTube users~~~ contact me in order to figure out how to keep the videos online. Your upload credits will be kept.

Thanks hirokisakurajima for the upload~

OMG, Yu-chan plays the piano!!!

I had read about that, but never actually believed it… you know, it is the internet.

I think it might be time for a Wikipedia update, right?

By the way, her last Ongaku appearance… which was uploaded by rocking user aoinohoho is gone because YouTube deleted the account – understandable. Aoinohoho, if you still visit the site would love to get hold of those videos.

Which leads me to a rant. Seriously Japan broadcasters, REALLY? As if you’re going to release interviews for sale. Even the likes of Letterman, and all those night shows have clips online. What’s up with that!?

Fuji TV, you fail at worldwide distribution.
