Part of the YAM Magazine 2012 LGBT Blogathon~

It’s been years… YEARS… since I last saw a full episode of The L Word. It ended when it ended, and I’ve never had the intention to revisit it. However, I do revisit shippy fan videos because they tend to be the best of what was [1][2][3] — then there are not so shippy vids, but character vids [1].

Since I was trying to reconnect with fandom, I was browsing some threads on the battlefield cyber-ground that is the IMDb boards, where I found a thread talking about Max/Moira and how he was the “weakest and least likable” character on the whole show — COME ON, it’s a show with Jenny Schecter, and Max is the least likable? The user went onto describe Max as socially inept, filthy (for shooting illegal hormones), and having “gross love scenes” with Alan Cumming.

Now, I’m pretty sure we can agree that The L Word shat on Max’s transition storyline (pretty much just how Alice put him down many-a-times), and he was probably one of the weakest “starring roles” the show had… even if the show was populated by a number of poorly-written characters. However, I’m here to defend Max and what some people say was “gross” or “not nice” about him.

First of all, there’s nothing wrong with Daniela Sea to the eyes, and she did fairly well with whatever was thrown at her… but that can be said with pretty much anyone in the cast. LOL

Or at least, that’s what I understood scanning through the articles in Japanese (with Google Translate, LOL).

Tokyo Kazoku (Tokyo Family) was supposed to start shooting in early April last year, but due to the earthquake, it was postpone — postpone long enough, until now. Apparently (if I read right), Tokyo Kazoku began shooting on May 31st. There was a press conference that day, and the cast was there~ including Satoshi Tsumabuki and Yu-chan.

As you may (or not) know, Tokyo Kazoku will be a re-telling of the 1953 classic Tokyo Story (東京物語) by Yazujiro Ozu. Apparently, Yu-chan will be taking on the role played by Setsuko Hara. But… I really can’t tell you more, because I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t watched Tokyo Story, even though every cinephile has.

But if Setsuko Hara-san’s character was the same as Satoshi Tsumabuki’s girlfriend [1], then you probably already knew that. If it wasn’t… then it’s all news to us. xD

In the meantime… Yu looks grown-up. I feel like I haven’t seen her in so long, even though she was in that episode of Shokuzai in January. Of course, Tokyo Kazuko will be released on January 2013.

Here’s a video of the event.

Juanes said that he dreams in Spanish, so that’s why he usually doesn’t sing in another language, even though he’s collaborated with artists that don’t necessarily sing in Spanish. So when he did his song Hoy Me Voy [YouTube] — included in his 2007 album La Vida Es un Ratico — and did a Spanglish version with Colbie Caillat, it was interesting.

For the most part, the Spanglish version does a good job at translating the Spanish — “Devuélveme ese corazón que tú no supiste valorar lo que te daba yo de verdad.” to a pretty close “So give me back this heart of mine ’cause you didn’t feel the love that I would give to you every day and night.

A literal translation would be “Give me back this heart that you didn’t value what I really gave to you.

You know there’s a problem when you add the words “every day and night,” as well as the cringe-worthy random “baby.” xD Which they use in the chorus (nonetheless!!!) — “Tengo miedo de no olvidarte y por eso de ti me despido” with the line “I am scared baby, I won’t forget you and that’s why i need to let you go, so-

The literal translation for that would be “I’m scared of not forgetting you, and that’s why I’m saying goodbye.” Compared to that, the Portuguese/Spanish version (Spanguese? Portugish?) goes the dramatic way with the line “Tive medo, fui covarde, é por isso que de ti me despeço” which translates literally to “I was scared, I was a coward, and that’s why I’m saying goodbye.

Obviously, the mixing of Spanish and Portuguese is way more natural than with English. However, it’s super interesting that the changed lyrics in Portguese are even more dramatic than in Spanish… which usually have dramatic lyrics.

Anyway, I prefer the arrangements for this version with Paula Fernandes because it gives it a super serious and more devastating tone. The original version of just Juanes in Spanish is a little too peppy, and the version with Colbie Caillat is just… too soft.

I haven’t really been properly following Okaasan to Issho — this means I haven’t been practicing my Japanese much — so I was really REALLY surprised: first, when they changed the weather mascots so soon. I suspect it didn’t suit well with the whole Tohoku Earthquake. They seemed to have lasted just a couple of years compared to some of the others…

Anyway, the second thing that surprised me was… Itou Mayu is no longer there! Apparently she did her last show by the end of March. Sadly, I haven’t found any clip of that online.

I don’t watch as much i.Sat as I used to, but this is my favorite commercial I’ve seen from them.

I’m so glad they have it on their YouTube account. xD

I’m aware this is not Coldplay, but I’m taking the liberty to tag it with it. LOL, it’s a cover of The Scientist [MV] — you know the one video where everything is backwards and cool — by Johnette Napolitano & Danny Lohner. I don’t particularly find the cover anything amazing, but the Sholly shippy video (which I haven’t been looking at for a while on YouTube) is  pretty good~ one of the really few ones for Sholly.

Aww, remember when I was crazy for Sholly? LOL

I really like that the creator really took the concept of the video and applied it to the whole concept of her shippy vid, flashbacks and all. It’s a really good way to use all of the Shane/Molly clips on the show… though I wished the video wasn’t sped up backwards. I wouldn’t have minded some slow-mo shots xD

I decided to create another feature in here~ The Wannabe Distributor feature!!! Combining my love for film and design, I’m gonna pick films as if I could afford the rights to distribute them, and imagining I really am going to be showing these films at a theater near me, I’m going to pick suitable titles and “create” a campaign to promote it. LOL

My first pick! China’s little movie that could, Love Is Not Blind (失恋33天).

I’m not going to be showing anything in particular or talk about anything in particular, but I gotta mention that this post is a bit NSFW~ Just because I’m going to be dealing with porn, or more specifically animated porn… which some call Hentai — but really, Hentai would be the anime version, right?

ANYWAY.

I’ve seen a couple of Blue films from a documentary — I really had no idea erotic films went that far back in film history, but it figures. Since then, I’ve always had a fascination with some of the “vintage” animated shorts I’ve run into about the subject. There many of them, of the German kind… sometimes Scandinavian, or Eastern European ones. There are many that re-work some fairy tales — the few that I’ve seen were Snow White, and there also was Hansel & Gretel. Many of them feature castle types, which I guess can be explained from the shape of castles… they lend itself to the topic. LOL

Then, I ran into this clip:

Alright~ Bibi taking on My Heart Will Go On kinda took me by surprise — have no idea who’s on the guitar — but I like the arrangement they did to the song kinda straying from the actual song, because very few can give Celine Dion a fresh spin.

Bibi oversang a bit, coz I have the inkling that she was trying to cover up for something~~~

DUDE, his English. I don’t mind that you mispronounce one or two words, but all the lyrics sound like gibberish. It’s completely distracting, and a pity that had to turn out this way because it’s a really refreshing arrangement.

Then there’s BiBi taking on Whitney.
