Archives For 2009

Let’s see~~~ There’s 65 Countries competing for 5 spots on the Foreign Film category this time around, from which I have seen… around… TWO, hahaha. I’ve seen only Madeo (Mother) from Korea, and La Teta Asustada (Milk of Sorrow) from Peru. But I’m watching No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti from Taiwan this weekend~

Also want to watch Mei Lanfang (Forever Enthralled) from China, The White Ribbon from Germany, and Dare mo Mamotte Kurenai (Nobody to Watch Over me) from Japan. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to find some of those Asian contenders if I look hard enough…

On Animated news~ apparently there are 20 Animated Features that could compete for possible 5 spots for Best Animated Feature. Among these 20 animated films? The kind of Peruvian The Dolphin – Story of a Dreamer. Yup, that’s right. From these 20 films, 7 have yet to be released in the US market (including Dolphin), in the case they can’t meet the deadline, they wouldn’t be able to compete.

There should be at least 16 films that meet the requirement, otherwise we’d be stuck with the 3 regular nominations, which wouldn’t be bad… we just have to be more picky. LOL

From those 20, I’ve seen 5… Coraline, Mary and Max, Monsters vs. Aliens, Ponyo, and UP. And I plan to watch 9 (Nine) over the weekend~~~ so I’ll let you know how that goes~

I should be really working on these more often because there are 3 more left before I get to choose the ones from 2009~~~ This time around, I kind of feel like i didn’t get to watch many good films. It was really tough to find 3 animated films to include, and considered to just choose two instead, but I found 3 xD so I hope it’s not mostly filler~

MOMA is doing an exhibition on Tim Burton, it opens to the public this coming November 22nd until next year on April 26th — not that I can actually go, I don’t think. LOL

But still check this out~

There’s this thing about The White Ribbon Trailer, it knows who their target market is. It’s not one of those foreign film which you don’t know it’s foreign because the trailer is just pieces of images edited together with some background music to set the mood, and no dialog at all because they don’t want your regular Joe to know the film has subtitles.

In that sense, I like this trailer. I wanna watch. Soon.

Glee - 1x09 - My Chocolate Thunder

Why do we have to go all vanilla on this song? See what we need is my chocolate thunder.

*all in agreement*

Okay, we don’t have time to re-arrange the song for you, Mercedes. Rachel is singing it. Don’t worry, we’ll find something for you to dip in chocolate.

Though, to be honest, the episode was more heartfelt this time around.

Osric Chau

If I talk about interesting faces on screen while watching 2012, I should be talking about Osric Chau, the monk practicioner — How do you pronounce his name? I have no idea. At the moment I’m saying it with a thick Scandinavian accent. LOL He is 23 going on 24 (born on July 1986) so we are practically the same age! He’s also Canadian! From Vancouver!

And that photo is adorable, but apparently he’s an exceptional martial artist, and shared the screen with David Carradine and Daryl Hannah on Kung Fu Killer.

He’s also got a website! Not a very good one — is that Bradley Sans I’m seeing? — but you can contact him and his management from there. There are also photos and some updates. If he googles himself, I hope he ends up here. LOL — Hey, Osric! How do you pronounce your name?

I was having a discussion about 2012 (the year, not the film) yesterday, and I kept telling them that I have been expecting the end of the world ever since 1999. It’s been 10 years already. Moreover, my mom always tells me she’s been hearing this “end of the world” stuff — as she calls it — since she was a kid. LOL So that’s just too many years. xD

I just got back from the theater, after the studio stuffed me with free popcorn and soda. Are they trying to distract me? I remember watching The Day After Tomorrow (also directed by End of the World fan Emmerich) at the theater with my friends, and feeling super cold after the show. After 2012, however, I just felt okay. Maybe I wanted a bathroom, since the movie is kinda long and the free soda didn’t help.

Glee Dubbing Nightmare!

November 11, 2009 — 4 Comments

*le gasp*

Yes, you are reading me right. Glee just began showing on Fox Latin America, and to my surprise~~~ I was surfing channels this evening, and *le gasp* again — Rachel was talking in Spanish.

If I’m reading correctly, Fox Latin America is showing the subtitled episodes on Thursday nights (going up against House M.D. on Universal channel) and a repeat the next day with dub. DUB! How can you show a series like Glee DUBBED!

First, you know I hate dubbings.

But then you take a show like Glee, which is funny because of all the dialog they throw in… and you DUB it? I mean, REALLY? I even had my apprehension towards the subtitles, and now you tell me people are dubbing it? Look, I get it. Glee has cute musical numbers, some Disney people might think that’s entertaining, but what’s truly great is Sue being all harsh and mean, and the whole absurdity of it all. I mean, really!? Pregnant through jacuzzi??? xD

Glee - 1x04 - Yes, We Cane!

Plus, you canNOT dubbed Jane Lynch’s perfect mean delivery. How can you dub…

I will go to the animal shelter and get you a kitty cat. I will let you fall in love with that kitty cat. And then on some dark cold night, I’ll steal away into your home and punch you in the face.

it’s all about delivery. cannot be done.
