  • First Proper Taiwan Night Market Experience~

    image

I gotta admit… with the cars, the scooters (the scooters!!!!!) the people, the noise, the smell of food and all the signs in Chinese… my first Night Market experience was a little overwhelming.

I think this is… Taichung. Not really sure what the name of the market was, though. Got some really exciting pictures with the Nikon camera… can’t wait for them.

  • Salted Caramel-covered Nigella Lawson for Stylist

I don’t get to watch Nigella on tv any longer, mainly because I’m not stuck to it — and when I am, it’s only on the news channel. But I used to watch her show as often as I caught it running.

I had always thought Nigella had a way with words because she had an MA in language and, as such, knew the right way of talking to get you interested. LOL and then my friend told me she didn’t watch her show because she felt Nigella was flirting with her through it all xD

I guess I got caught in between all the flirting.

Anyway, Nigella is the guest editor for this month’s (?) Stylist Magazine, so all their frontpage at the moment is covered with Nigella content ranging from videos, recipes, tips and things~ and with that a lusciously dirty cover with Nigella’s face covered with salted caramel.

Her post on her love affair with salted caramel is also a good read, with loads of good dirty quotes. Like “I don’t want merely to experience pleasure, I want to wallow in it – gloriously and gratefully – while it lasts.” or:

Not since the first ever infant suckled at its mother’s breast had a food – it felt – had so much instant impact. If I’d been in a cartoon, my eyes would have bulged, stars would have emanated from my head, and I would have been licking my saliva-spurting lips wolfishly.

  • Snickers CM Turns Sexist in Latin America

It was about six months ago (I don’t know why it took so long to cause controversy) when this Latin American Snickers CM featuring ex-RBD Anahi hit the waves.

In it, Anahi is doing her usual extreme biking when she falls and starts complaining about it. Her male friends call her Carlos and tell her that whenever he’s hungry he’s “acting like a girl.” “That’s not what your girlfriend said,” as she eats the snicker.

    Anahi turns into Carlos.

I was never able to swallow that commercial, and every time it was on tv — even though it should be tough to run into it without watching much tv — I ended up changing channels with an “UGH”

  • Traveling with Yu-chan and Calbee

I refuse to believe there’s no script on this one [1]. I just refuse to believe Yu-chan is this cute in real life. And I have an urge to eat some chips, with the lack of Calbee Potato Chipusu around – I’m just gonna have to get any other chips.

By the way, two funny CMs [KOIWEB] in like one week. Yu-chan, I know you do this on purpose.

    — EDIT —

There’s also an Amusement Park version.

  • Moarrrr Yu Aoi Short takes

Seriously, it’s like Yu conspires to release info day by day for a whole week, and then she decides to close the news running for a whole year.

Starting September 5, Calbee Potato Chips [1] will be running new Yu Aoi CMs with non-scripted Yu!

The CM shows off her natural charms, as she laughs loudly, takes pictures, and strikes up fun conversations — all of which makes one feel as if they were on a vacation with her as well.

    […]

Furthermore, the producers did not provide a script for the actress, so she just went with the flow to deliver as much of her natural behavior as possible. Apparently, her acting was so good in this CM that the filming went smoother than expected.

In other news, I just found out what High School Yu-chan attended with Koike Teppei [1]. LOL, you know… I never thought of finding out, I just ran into the information while looking for something. It listed Teppei as a student there, and I thought… wait a minute! Didn’t Yu… and yes – yes, she was.

Horikoshi High School is a pretty unusual high school in Tokyo, in that… it’s common for idols to attend this school for its flexible schedules for hard-working idols. And it seems to be pretty expensive too~ Other notable students of this school are Ayumi Hamasaki, Aya Ueto, Matsumoto Jun, Kyoko Fukada, Masami Nagasawa, Asami Mizukawa, Anne Suzuki, and Ikuta Toma. [1][2][3]

    Yup, that’s it.

Stuff for the next Wiki update? xD

  • Yu Aoi: Today’s Kakigoori

I am pretty (99,9%) sure that this used to be called Haru Natsu Aki Fuyu Kakigoori (春夏秋冬かき氷), which I translated as Kakigoori for All Seasons or Shaved-Ice for All Seasons. But now it’s called Kyou mo Kakigoori (今日もかき氷). I don’t know when that happened. But look!

We know how much Yu lovessssssssssss shaved ice, she’s like… super passionate about it. Some people love animals from shelters, melt for abandoned puppies and other assorted pets — Yu-chan loves herself some Kakigoori. She loves Taiwan for it, and my Mandarin teacher who’s from Taiwan tells me shaved-ice in Taiwan is off the hook out of this world.

I have no illuminating knowledge about shaved ice, because apparently Peruvian raspadilla has NOTHING on Taiwanese shaved ice. But there you go! Now you know how to say shaved ice in Peruvian Spanish~ I’ll put it in katakana: ラスパディーヤ // RASUPADI~YA. LOL The root of the word comes from “raspar” which means “shave” – and while in English, there’s also what we call “snow cones,” raspadillas aren’t really served in a cone.

Another common name for shaved ice in Spanish is granizado, in katakana: グラニザード // GURANIZA~DO, which comes from the word “granizo” as in “hail” ~~~ and also the term nieve raspada (shaved snow) or in katakana: ニエーベ ラスパーダ // NIE~BE RASUPA~DA, which in itself is a wonk term because you can’t shave snow… can you?

Are you bored by now with my Kakigoori knowledge? Well, in any case Yu is willing to travel the world for the perfect Kakigoori… I guess she’s going to need to know how to call it in different names. But if my teacher is telling me the truth, then Taiwan is all Yu needs.

    Here are some more photos!

  • Kuwazugirai: Yu Aoi vs. Okada Masaki

The 40min. segment from FujiTV’s Tunnels Thanks to Everybody that aired the day before the opening of Raiou… is actually pretty fun. Plus, Yu Aoi talking about food.

A popular segment in which Tunnels and guests take turns trying to guess the food the opponent hates the most.

We need translation for this one xD

Loads of interesting facts, it seems… like Yu owning a shaved-ice machine.

And Yu tearing up when laughing. Does anyone get that when they laugh?
