I’m not really a huge fan of Arcade Fire, but I do like their image and visuals. I like them enough to appreciate them, and enjoy their music enough to give their albums a go.
Ready to Start is an old school rock video shot in black and white.
It’s got great energy, and great visual contrast.
Ahhhh, Failte!! – sorry, too lazy to type accents.
You know, before I started posting so much about Asian stuffs~~~ I was pretty obsessed with Celtic Woman and Meav – coinciding with my 6-month mark. I left “fandom” and began my Asian ramblings. But you know, I always complain there’s so many idols in my Asian radar… not enough vocalists, or dancers. When I thought of vocalists, I often think about Celtic Woman, because… man, those women could sing.
I don’t think many people would actually look at me and say, ahhh see… Amy is a Celtic Woman fan. I don’t look the part, and I certainly don’t follow other Celtic music groups. I was in old downtown Lima, where they sell a lot of fake goods from clothing to music and films – don’t worry, I went there for Chinese food, not buying fake goods – and in one of the music stands, they had Celtic Woman music. I told my dad, because I thought it was surprising. He told me that a local channel had been broadcasting Celtic Woman concerts, and that my dad’s friend had taken a liking for the women. In the end, I gave him a copy of Meav’s Silver Sea album. LOL
I wouldn’t mind Meav coming for a concert xD
Ahhh… that Dulaman performance has so much sex appeal. LOL
I didn’t love his debut, and I don’t love this song. However, we’re here to talk about the concept of his video. Obviously, this has tints of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and BackStreet Boys’ Everybody. And I could even argue it also has some 5ive’s Don’t Wanna Let You Go. It’s the whole mansion, goth, death thing going on, with choreography… which I’m down with.
I wish Taeyang had commited to the look. As it is now, it just looks like the girl wakes up from a wet dream, I mean… hot Taeyang is singing/whispering to her while she’s sleeping. In Thriller, MJ committed to the zombie look… in Everybody, Nick committed to the mummy look, Brian became a silly werewolf, Howie was a silly vampire, AJ was the Phantom, and Kevin was Mr. Hyde. Taeyang should’ve commited to a less-Taeyang look.
The choreography was oka-ish. It was really well edited on the first few seconds of the dance inside the mansion, but the dance in the cemetery was kinda boring.
Raiou’s main theme will be in charge of singer Maika (舞花), who will be singing Kokoro (心/Heart). In the music video, which was recently shot with Yu Aoi and Masaki Okada in a modern setting.
Also, the two of them are lip-synching the lines of the song in the video. “It’s like the two of us are making the major debut. Next should be performing at a summer festival.”, Aoi commented. Yet when asked to sing by the journalist, Aoi was quick to say. “Ok, please stop. I said some useless things.”
For some reason I found Yu’s comment about the major debut really funny. Must be the bias. Otherwise, I’m looking forward to the song, and the fake lip-sync.
A pretty cool setup for digital DJing, with a multi touch screen with a simple – but not so simple – interface for DJs. Now, I wonder how much would installing this in an actual club would cost~~~
YAM011 is almost done. The Lima Film Fest ends tonight, so I’ll be closing the issue — hopefully on time, for a release on the 15th at 00.00hr. My timezone, not yours. GMT -5, FYI.
While I was writing the editor’s note — and addressing everyone on the Facebook group — I wondered what to call YAM readers. I thought YAMMIES would be nice, but then the Urban Dictionary told me those are tits/knockers. But then again, Penn & Teller said that pretty much any noun in plural can mean knockers. LOL Watermelons, lemons, air bags. There you go, wouldn’t be much of a difference.
So… then I thought about YAMMERS, but that can’t be good, right? So maybe YAMMIES is fine. Sounds a bit like “jammies” because you know… I’m a Spanish speaker. To me, the sound of a Y with a vowel, and the sound of a J with a vowel is the same. When I first moved to Canada, Yellow and Jello were the same to me. Well, I still can’t get it right. Frak.
Anyway, it’s getting late. I just wanted to post the streams to some of the albums we are reviewing and rating in the new edition of YAM. Not all, but most of them~ Thank you, Xiami ;P
I haven’t decided if this video is trying to be tacky, or just is… but this is M.I.A. we’re talking, the same in charge of Born Free, so we should be in good hands. The irony, though, I can’t take it. It’s too much irony in the tacky graphics, the glitter, the video transitions… EVERYTHING.
You know them, right? It plagues The People’s social media profiles. MySpace, Hi5, Tagged… every disgustingly booty-call social media website, just because The People think it looks good. And even though Facebook doesn’t allow profile customization — thank god! — it is plagued with applications with glitter and tacky graphics.
Still don’t know what tacky is? Here, take a look at M.I.A’s video
I’m still lukewarm about her music. I don’t get what’s so genius about her, but I guess that’s her genius.
I’m never gonna get it
I’m pretty sure I discovered Pink on one of the non-subtitled broadcasts of some Music Award they used to aired back in the day on Fox or something. That same year or maybe the next (?), in 2001, I went to Los Angeles to spend my 15th bday there… and then head off to San Francisco to visit family.
On that trip? I remember Popular was airing the few of their lasts episodes on The WB. Which episode? I remember it clearly… I have one of those memories. The News of my Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated.
On my stay in LA? I almost pissed myself because I was in LA the day of the Grammy awards. Two Spanish girls that were on the tour bus with us were attending… I watched from the hotel, of course, but I remember seeing all the limos arriving. I was over the moon, because you know me… I get celebrity-giddy really easy… and I was 15.
I saw the Grammy broadcast, and saw Faith Hill performing Breathe. Wow. Guess what I ended up getting when I got to SF, and told my parents I wanted to get some CDs? xD A broad variety, because you know me… I’m not genre specific, if I like it, I like it and that’s it. So I ended up getting Pink’s debut Can’t Take Me Home, Faith Hill’s Breathe, and Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP.
