  • JeA’s The Winter Rain Falls

    https://youtu.be/dJOMq5vRFcE

Korea has a show called Immortal Song that basically pits popular singers performing songs of a selected theme/singer/era in front of the audience made out of people who listened to that type of music. Think of it as a show where you would gather the likes of Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, sprinkled with a few picks like Demi Lovato and whoever people think are good vocalists nowadays, and having them competing against each other in things like “Themes from the 80s” and having all of them battle (A vs. B) with a song performance to move onto the next battle.

Once a week. Yeah, impossible to do in America.

But so good for ratings, no? Could you imagine? I would pay money to see Christina Aguilera vs. battling with Britney Spears — not a duet, a performance battle. Simon, get to it.

    ANYWAY, I completely digress.

Brown Eyed Girls member JeA has been on the show’s newest season, and though she lost her battle — T_T — the second half of her performance is pure perfection. She started off breathing too much into her microphone, but once the high notes began, she seemed to have gotten her footing and by the time she had to deliver those whispery notes… it was too much.

JeA is singing The Winter Rain Falls (겨울비는 내리고) by Kim Bum Ryong (김범룡), in honor of this week’s 80’s songwriter theme.

  • Salyu x Salyu – Color Magic~

salyu x salyu had a new song out? Titled Color Magic (カラーマジック, or the KATAKANA~ pronunciation KARA~ MAJIKKU — you know Katakana baffles me), it was included in NHK’s Design Ah (デザインあ), but you know it would be the perfect companion song to 6COLORS.

The song (if my Japanese is correct) will be included in the soundtrack of the show to be released on January 23rd.

design ah nhk a no uta

They also have an awesome (interactive) song titled Ah’s Song (「あ」のうた).

  • Yu Aoi for Radio Drama 6 Colors

osaka radio 6 colors yu aoi

You know, I read that post about Japan — despite its technologically-advanced image — not being a tech nation at all [1][2], so when finding this about a radio drama took me back in time back to when my mom told me they used to watch radio telenovelas (back then known as radionovelas, of course). Having Yu working on one is so bizarre… not to mention troublesome as a fan xD

  • We Meet Again, Shane

I haven’t seen you in so long, and yes… what is it about you?

    It is what it is…

  • I Am Xander~ Female Trio

buffy season 8 xander female trio

I always had the suspicion that I was Xander, and this quote just proved it. Destiny’s Child, Shonen Knife and the Dixie Chicks- in one dialog bubble not on YAM Magazine. What else is next? S.H.E, TLC and Acha Tsendep (阿佳组合)? xD

  • Cartoon Network 20th Birthday by ILoveDust

Holy mother of… Cartoon Network in 20 years old, and they’re celebrating big with this video reuniting 20-years-worth of CN characters. I recognize most of them (even if it’s not by name), but I wish there was more variety of characters shown (I know, I know… not really practical), but there should have been more of the older characters in Cartoon Cartoon’s old day past.

The Cartoon Network YouTube Channel is not available to me :(

  • The Voice of China: My Top4

This is it. This is why I don’t follow reality TV contests, and this is my final posting on The Voice of China, which I had greatly enjoyed at the beginning for its variety in music styles.

But after a few episodes that tended to be on the frustrating side… I just… can’t take it any longer. I think the final is next episode (and Adam Lambert is supposed to be on). It was a good ride, but I do not wish to see the ending to this.

This is my line-up to the Top4:

  • Yu Aoi for TBS/WOWOW Double Face

I wanted to use “Yu Aoi Double Face-ing for TBS/WOWOW Infernal Affairs Jdrama” but I thought it was a little extra too long with the information.

So I was checking IMDb, and there was a new credit I didn’t know about, and since I’m not subscribed to anyone’s feed on Japanese entertainment news, and my sources haven’t been as active as they used to, I had no idea what it was about.

The show titled Double Face both Teruyuki Kagawa and Hidetoshi Nishijima will be airing both in TBS and WOWOW — one subtitled Sennyu Sousa Hen (Undercover Investigation, TBS) and the other Gisou Keisatsu Hen (Police Disguise, WOWOW) — with Nishijima starring on the TBS version while Kagawa on WOWOW’s. The gig is that it is inspired by Hong Kong’s Infernal Affairs, and will have you watching both as they are the same story but from different perspectives.

So maybe if you’ve seen the movie, it won’t be all that interesting — but from the broadcasting POV, it’s an interesting project. I don’t think it’s been done before, has it?

Yu-chan will play a role in the WOWOW version, while Wakui Emi and Atsushi Ito will have roles in both versions, and Kadono Takuzo will play a role in the TBS version.

I wonder if anyone is planning to fansub…

  • The Voice of China: Three Days and Three Nights of Black or White!

I gotta admit that with Wang Feng being Na Ying’s coach, I thought I was going to get blown away by everyone’s performances, but seems like expectations were too high. Plus, YouTube cockblocking my watching.

Since Wang Feng was there to coach too, all of the arrangments had a lot (or, at least, a little) to do with some aspect of rock — be it rock & roll or plain rock (except for Zhang Yu Xia’s battle) — so, in the end, there was a lot of A-Mei being played and there was some extra Wang Feng going on too.

Anyway, there were only a couple of standout performances, and considering my favorites on Na Ying’s team from the beginning were Zhang Wei (张玮) [1] and Zhang Yu Xia (張玉霞) [1], I am rather ecstatic and sad. Super elated for the fact that Zhang Wei has a very good chance of being the Top4 (and may very well be the winner), and sad because Zhang Yu Xia — despite her flawless The Legend (传奇) performance in a battle vs. Li Min (李敏) — couldn’t advance any further. T_T

But, DUDE! The Zhang Wei and Ge Yu Sen (歌浴森) battle doing A-Mei’s Three Days and Three Nights (三天三 夜) was great~ Like, couldn’t pick between the two, and I was almost siding with Ge Yu Sen, but would have been perfectly content if either of those two won.
