  • The L Word + Yu Aoi Fandom Crossover

I’m sorry, I had to post this. xD

I ran into this post in Japanese talking about something about a The L Word London/British BBC remake version (?), and the poster asked herself who she would cast in a Japanese remake of The L Word… or something like that. You know, you should always take my translations with a grain of salt. xD

    Bolding mine~

    As Bette Porter: Yuki Amami
    As Tina Kennard: Yuriko Ishida
    As Alice Pieszecki: Miho Kanno
    As Dana Fairbanks: Rinka
As Lara Perkins: Karina Nose (?)
As Jenny Schecter: Yu Aoi <- I “WHAT” at this one xD
    As Marina Ferrer: Sachie Hara
As Shane McCutcheon: Kou Shibasaki <- OMG I laughed at this one, actually snorted.
As Carmen de la Pica Morales: MEISA Kuroki
As Eva Torres (aka. Papi): Anna Tsuchiya <- I burst out laughing ‘coz I can picture it.
    As Helena Peabody: Yuki Matsushita

First thoughts? It would be actually kind of exciting… considering Jenny was often described as “the main character” on the show, that would mean Yu on a new show xD and… no disrespect to Mia Kirshner and her Jenny, but OMG… how much I wanted to hit Jenny in the face. LOL She was… exasperating. So in that sense, I would like to see if Yu could make me want to punch her in the face with her Jenny, or if the Japanese writers (and Yu’s new interpretation) would be able to make me sympathetic towards her.

And if by any chance it gets remade… well, I doubt any Japanese network would be able to get away with all the smut, so all the smut would have to be implied. I don’t have a problem with that, as I actually think that all the smut took away from whatever little you could salvage from the telenovela.

*sighs* I haven’t talk about The L Word since it ended… unless you count the Shane posts xD And talking about Shane… how about Kou Shibasaki as her? I don’t know man… Shane’s like iconic. LOL It’s like you say “Shane” and people should know, you know? Could Shibasaki play suave? I don’t know any actress that could pull of Shane’s player attitude.

And since we’re talking about players… how about Papi. You know why I laughed with the suggestion of Tsuchiya. Because I was reminded the time I was watching Kamikaze Girls with a friend, and Anna Tsuchiya, playing Ichigo, was on screen with Momoko (played by Kyoko Fukada) and my friend literally “She’s sooooo cool” and then she turned around and asked me whether Kamikaze Girls was a gay film. Hence, I can picture Tsuchiya playing Papi.

    Thoughts?

  • There’s Something About Li Yuchun…

    that is fascinating.

For one thing, Chris Lee doesn’t have the best voice, she doesn’t have the best dancing, or the best lyrics in her album. However, she writes her own music and lyrics — she seemed to have done so in her self-titled album — , she dances, she even directs her own music videos [one of them Youth of China], and has begun her acting career — in the awarded Hong Kong production of Bodyguards and Assassins, for which she was named Best Newcomer of the Year by the Hong Kong Directors Guild. To top it all off, she’s tall — at least, taller than her Asian counterparts — has an amazing face, and stands out from a crowd by being Chris Lee in a room full of other women.

Multiple-talent threats are often easy to hate because they think they do it all, but in reality they don’t really excel at anything. A few singers who think they can act come to mind, or actors that think they can sing. And even though, Chris may not really excel in any, she’s so difficult to hate because she doesn’t have that superiority air that plagues self-professed artistes. Every time she’s on stage performing or receiving some award, she stands there with an air of a person that’s cool, but also with hints of humility.

  • China’s Plan to Fight Piracy

In an effort to attract more Western musicians and firms, China is building three national music industry parks, serving as performance stages and platforms where musicians from around the world could get together to collaborate, located in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong.

But of course, in order to attract Western musicians and firms, they need to tackle piracy.

With programs like the ones 88TC88.com [musicdish.com] are offering for Western acts to get packages translated into Chinese to enter the market, the government is trying to develop a system that will not only help artists get their royalties, but also protect Chinese arts.

Until relatively recently, copyright in China was illegal. All intellectual property belonged to the people, ie. government. If you wrote a book for example, the government would ‘own’ it and reap any ‘profits,’ while providing the author with a salary, housing, medical and education. So when some rant on about piracy or the lack of enforcement, this should be put in context. The Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China was adopted in 1990 – we in the US on the other hand have had a Copyright Act on the books since 1790 and we still can’t seem to get it right!

On the other hand, the government does often seem capricious in its enforcement of copyright. They like to point to last year’s shutdown of 200 pirate movie sites, including the largest video BitTorrent site. It just so happens though that the crackdown coincided oh so nicely with the launch of CCTV’s major online video initiative. Nor is it clears whether the shutdown didn’t have more to do with fighting pornography – a much bigger taboo for the government – rather than piracy. Having said that though, the fact is that for both economic and diplomatic/political reasons, the Chinese government will increasingly get serious, get tough and tackle the IP issue in the broad sense, not just piracy.

    What’s gonna be their system?

The Chinese government will use watermarking technology to embed a unique code into every creative works released – music, film, graphic,… – allowing the government to easily identify, fine and shut down websites peddling pirated material as well as track all plays for royalty collection and disbursement.

    all via MusicDish.

Which is already happening when you upload things on YouTube or some file sharing website. Things get deleted, and accounts get shut down. However, coming from China. This is huge.

Look, I am all for China protecting its artists, as long as me as a user NOT in China, is able to have access to their content. I listen to a lot of music in Chinese, which I wouldn’t be doing if it weren’t for illegal downloads in the first place. I wouldn’t own albums by LeeHom Wang, or all of Bibi’s discography if I hadn’t downloaded their albums.

I wouldn’t know about Yuguo or Chang Shilei or Milk @ Coffee.

You know, I use Haoting to stream music now, but some of the artists I just named don’t even show up there. Also, you guys… it would be really awesome if there was an option for language. LOL

Okay, having said that~ I know I support downloads, but I also support paying for the stuff YOU consider to be good. I am not telling you what you should pay for, but I want you to make a conscious decision about paying for the content you deem good enough for your money. If you think such star or group is the best, and that they/he/she deserves your money, make an effort to buy anything by them. It doesn’t have to be the $30 USD import album, it can be the $15 USD poster.

Please, do not tell me this album by this artist is the best of all time, if you haven’t paid for it. If you love it that much, you should buy it… unless it’s already out of print, of course. Don’t tell me this movie is a film that changed your life, if you have it as a pirated copy. You don’t have to have a 100 disc collection, but if you really think that piece of art… being anything from music, to movies or photographs or sculptures… if they made a difference to you, please buy it.

  • Remembering Jinseitte Uso Mitai – Life is like a Lie~

From WOWOW’s experimental 2008 drama, Camouflage.

Ryo Kase and Yu Aoi = LOVE.

I think this one was the BEST chapter of the series. [here for the recap]

have a good not-suffering end of the weekend, but an overall relaxing Sunday.
or you know, have a good new week if you’re on the other side of the world~~~

  • Vote for your Fave Fantasy Logline

His Eyes Were Watching Movies has a fantastic challenge.

You gotta read the pitches, SO GOOD.

  • Lee Hyori for Guerilla Date Interview

Hmm… wouldn’t it be GUERRILLA? Just saying.

Julz has decided to send me anything regarding Hyori (or Bi), and well… can’t really complain, can I? But to be honest, this Guerilla Date show scares the crap out of me. Fans in hordes scare me.

Having said that, Hyori is such a good idol. She is SO charismatic, and she’s not scared of making fun of herself — maybe that comes from hanging out so much with Jaesuk. OJO! I didn’t say she’s a great artist or performer, I said idol. She’s got so much personality, and you can’t help but keep looking.

Hyori cracked me up with talks about comparisons with Beyonce and Lady Gaga… blond wigs, and smiling with her gums. Don’t worry, unnie. Your smiling face is the best ;P

  • Rain and Lee Hyori Dance Parodies~

I totally spit everything on my desk, when my friend sent this over.

Of course, you do know I pimped Bi and Hyori to western audiences last week.

  • Street Fighter: Legacy

It’s not much a short, as it is a clip of pretty cool fighting. However, this Street Fighter: Legacy feels 100 times better than that film of Chun Li, and the previous Street Fighter movies Hollywood tried to cash-in. I do still have a soft spot for the anime series though… I mean, I do own that on DVD. LOL

Some really nice moments here and there, but still… for the 3min, there is something off about the quality that I don’t quite like. The fight is pretty awesome though.

  • Musical Sequence Funny Dance Off!

I know Glee has much MUCH more budget than Popular ever did, so we are judging on funny. Sure, Glee doesn’t make up songs, but still it’s great when they don’t take themselves too serious. Though, I am a sucker for their Keep Holding On, even if I really disliked the Avril Lavigne version one. Also their My Life Would Suck Without You – you know what I think of Kelly Clarkson’s music. Meh.

So I was looking for a funny Glee performance… I was gonna choose Sex You Up, but I thought the kids should fight it off with the cast of Popular. Bring it!
