Archives For shipping (online ordering)

My order for Yu Aoi’s newest release of Uso. the Pop-up book is finally here. Even though shipping cost me a little more than I had intended. I will review this, and then reveal the surprise I had for all of you.

First, let me tell you it is slightly weird to have an almost-real-life-sized photo of Yu’s face. It is just slightly bigger (I suppose), so it’s unsettling. The photo it’s so sharp and clear, and her skin is so flawless in it, I’m so jealous. But then again… that’s a well-lit photograph, so that’s unfair. xD

Catherine on DVD?

December 30, 2009 — 3 Comments

Kinda?

*giggles* sorry, that cover makes me laugh.

It looks like Francophone-DVD distributor Imavision has released the first season. It seems like it’s 10 discs, but I can find no details… I mean, it looks like the first season, but it says the first part, which could be more than the first season… explaining the 10 discs and the expensive price tag.

Also, no info on subtitles or captioning.

This can be purchase through the CBC Shop Online for $59.99 CND (I suppose), at Imavision.com for $69.95 CND, and over at Archambault.ca for $69.99 CND — they do free shipping (international, I dunno) with orders over $39.

They’re a bit pricey. I wonder if I should get someone to get them for me. I expect all DVD material to at least be captioned in its original language… no info here. If anyone does, share!

… unless you’re buying something spectacular that can’t get shipped to Peru.

I did a test of eshopex.com after BBVA Banco Continental sent some promo, so I signed up. The promo had the amazon.com, from where I get much of my stuff from so I thought I could do the test with my next amazon.com shopping.

To avoid any swearing, this has been the experience…

  1. bought on amazon.com (two-day shipping)
  2. 4 days had passed, no message from eshopex.com
  3. check website.
  4. order is there… why didn’t I get an email notification?
  5. order is there, but don’t know how to continue.
  6. customer service question, and complaint
  7. no response from customer service
  8. email notification my order is on-hold because credit card (still valid) is not going through. 2 days after it’s been sitting there…
  9. follow email instructions of  “change credit card” and “send email” – email has no custom info, how would they know it’s me? and what order?
  10. email from them saying they’re on time, and that package is being sent.

Now, let me tell you… I’m not complaining about their timing. I’m complaining about their system… a system with

  1. no notifications when something arrives to your inbox.
  2. no response from customer service.
  3. no emails saying “we’ve received your message”.

Comparing this Amazon.com order, with previous~~ I can tell eshopex.com is way more expensive than Amazon. Shipping per item cost has increased 100%… so eshopex is NOT worth the trouble. Unless you’re buying electronics, clothing online? etc etc that can’t get ship to Peru. CDs, DVDs, Books,  and probably all other websites selling and shipping international should be used.

Also, horrible SECURITY FLAW. Once you’re logged on, and surf out of your account page, you are able to hit “back” on your browser and continue working on your account. The site is impossible to navigate without losing your “log out” or “account” buttons.

4 1/2 Thumbs DOWN. The half-star comes from time… which they say it’s 2 days.

Yu with braces!!!

Ok… moving on~~ Portugirl is in my hands!! Or actually, on my desk now, otherwise I wouldn’t be typing. HMV Japan is pretty good~ even though they delayed my order, they sent it 5 days ago and it’s here already! And considering I don’t get Free Shipping with YesAsia anymore… also noticed? Prices are higher in YesAsia now, for example Portugirl would have cost $20ish bucks more with them. Should you be doing YesAsia now?

Anyway! Here it is!!!

Proper fan-ish review, after the break~~~ For a ‘pro’ review, you’ll have to wait. LOL

Time to Test HMV Japan~

March 22, 2009 — 4 Comments

So much for my economy~~~ I went to YesAsia to check if they listed Yu’s new PB – almost had a heart attack with the price tag. Portugirl took way~~~ LESS time to get listed in YesAsia than Juri’s Ao Akua. It’s like instant! But COME ON! $45USD? !!???? Just for it? And I don’t even get free-shipping. So I just signed up to HMV Japan, because they are listing  Portugirl at almost half the price… + shipping, is costing around the same price YesAsia’s book. And Amazon JP’s listing it at $30USD + $30ish shipping here~~

Hooray for HMV’s international business plan. Now, don’t go all YesAsia on me and suddenly change your country zoning to charge me more… and don’t go all Amazon JP on me and suddenly charge 30 bucks for it.

Will report on how f ast, and how nice HMV is~~ Will YesAsia lose my business? And I do a lot of business, considering I’m broke but I keep on clicking. *tsk tsk*

Ao Akua arrived this afternoon! – Book is the cutest thing ever. LOL’ Tinier than I expected really~~

Juri Ueno - Ao Akua - Cover

Though, I don’t love this PB as much as I love A Piacere, mainly because I was a tad bit disappointed on the photographs. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few great shots, but a lot of snap shots too~~ What I love about this one? I like the concept, and the fact that there’s a companion DVD.

More after the break.

Ouch~

I was just checking out YesAsia.com to see if they already began listing AO AKUA, the photobook, and order from there… but they haven’t. By the way, GuuGuu is on the way~~~~ xD

Back on topic, so I went over to Amazon Japan to see if I could get AO AKUA from there, but before I tried anything I checked the international shipping rates~~ Turns out they just eliminated Economy International Shipping, and we outside Japan are left with Express International Shipping ONLY, which is UBER expensive.

For me, living in South America – 3 500 Yen for shipment of CDs/DVDs (roughly $35-40USD, and 4 400 Yen for Books) – like FUCK! More expensive than the goddamn item. LOL

*scratching joining Amazon.co.jp off my list*

I got suggested HMV Japan, which is better in terms of shipping pricing, it seems~~

It takes into consideration the # of units (like YesAsia does) – my latest YesAsia order is 3 units, which would roughly translate to 2 100 Yen in HMV Japan ($20USD-25). Still kills me though~~~~

Digital Content Question~

November 5, 2008 — 3 Comments

I do… I do like digital downloads, but can’t figured out WHY an eBook is as expensive as buying a book. Also, can’t understand why digital films are as expensive as buying a cheap DVD… and don’t get me started on music~~

Also… region restriction? Sucky. Digital should be for all.

Does anybody know good online stores for digital content available internationally?

*EDIT*
For eBooks, I seemed to have found ebooks.com, who answered my email wondering if international users have access to the books there. They told me that some books have region restrictions, but that most are available to anyone.

Availability in all regions, cross-platform… ubiquitous movies, music… even books, if possible~ x’D Well, maybe I’m going too far with the books, since there’s a base of language and there’d be THAT barrier, but you get my point, right?

For instance, I can’t really remember when was the last time I went to watch a film at the movies, because I either:

  • Have already seen it on DVD
  • Have already waited months for it to be released, and have already lost interest
  • Have never been interested in it

So Amy supports world premieres because she’s impatient. Also, I would fully suport Paypal if they were available in Peru, but no~ They do not support accounts in Peru (That’s why I opened one when I was in Canada). Moreover, I would support other online stores (eg. mp3 stores) but they have region restrictions… some more annoying than others. One of the most annoying is the ‘billing address’ issue… even if I have a Canadian credit card, I would not be able to use their service because I don’t have a physical Canadian address anymore… WHILE I am still able to buy a physical album and ship it here for more or less the same amount of money.

I was also ready to buy shows through BitTorrent, but they support US Only – they ARE nice and professional enough to point it out below the “buy” button, so they won’t waste your time as you try to sign up for a new account there… to then find out you don’t have the right ISP, or you can’t add your credit card, or SORRY, THIS CONTENT IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN SUCH REGION. Ever happened?

So I’m all for movies and music available everywhere at the same time. And you?

:(

Oh SADNESS! People… I just found out yesterday that the Free Shipping policy at YesAsia.com has changed a bit, and as of now… Peru doesn’t get Free Shipping anymore.
