Archives For ponyo on the cliff by the sea (gake no ue no ponyo)

This seems VERY open. It’s Asian, and it’s also Hollywood… so it seems like my kind of award. Funny thing is that some of those nominees seem very off and certainly kind of random.

For example the historical film The Founding of a Republic is… nominated for Best Comedy? OMG, is that ironic? Also… Inglourious Basterds didn’t make it to Best 2009 Film (even though you can vote for “other” and add it), and Bigelow didn’t make it to Best 2009 Director…

Anyway, some of the nominees in the international bits include usual suspects Avatar, The Hurt Locker, District 9, A Prophet, and Inglourious Basterds~~~ even Peru’s The Milk of Sorrow. xD

The Asian nominees include Mother, Thirst, Air Doll, Red Cliff, Ponyo, Forever Enthralled, Nobody to Watch Over me, Jackie Chan, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Eason Chan, Rain, Maggie Cheung, Gong Li, etc.

Some of the unusual categories include Best Asian Entertainer in Hollywood, Best Asian Movie of the Decade, 10 Best Asian Actors and Actresses…

Oscar 2010 Predictions

February 1, 2010 — 4 Comments

Tomorrow it’s nomination days!

My country is buzzing with anticipation of a possible Best Foreign Film nod for The Milk of Sorrow.

Anyway, I did Oscar predictions last year and I got about 85% of nominations right considering all of the categories, and nearly a perfect score in major categories of acting, directing and film. However, I don’t think I will be getting a score as good as last time.

Actually, this is the happiest I felt with nominations…
let’s wait to see who wins~~~

However, still important omissions for Moon, as well as Mary and Max. But loads of love for Hurt Locker (7), Basterds (8), and Up in the Air (5), and both Up and District 9 with 4 nods.

It’s been a good year for Sci-Fi.

And the nominations and winners continue, this time with the Chicago Critics’ nominations (and tomorrow with the SAG nominations). It is a busy time.

Leading the nominees with six is one of the many awards favorites, Jason Reitman’s Up In The Air. But hold on just a moment. It has a co-pilot. Also riding a wave of six nominations is Spike Jonze’s adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are,

Joining both films in the Best Picture race from Chicago are Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (each with five nominations) and Joel & Ethan Coen’s A Serious Man with 4.

some nice changes and surprises!

First, see it for yourself~~~

Now, I wasn’t to OMGWTFGOD when I saw the film. I liked it… I thought it was okay. The thing that I loved was singing that Ponyo song with the little girlPonyo, Ponyo sakana no ko!!! – Plus, Juri sings it too and that made me laugh so hard. I just had to mentioned that… just so you could see that part of the charm of the film is THAT song. This is why I think this trailer fails, makes it look all epic and sh!t… it is kinda, but it’s mostly cute.

People will feel mislead. I can feel it in the air… and critics will bash it as childish.
