Frozen’s Libre Soy Let it Go~

What is this lady-boner that I got watching Frozen? I really liked The Princess and the Frog (despite Prince Naveen) and wasn’t much of a fan of Tangled (despite Mother Gothel)- Frozen, instead, achieves the perfect balance. And I love love love LOVE Elsa. AND I DIDN’T EVEN SEE the original audio, and I loved it.

Idina Menzel, though, wow. Vocal boner. I do kinda liked the Spanish latino version of the song, Libre Soy [1] performed by Carmen Sarahi, a little bit better in lyrics and meaning, but Menzel’s vocals take the song to unparalleled heights. Can’t wait to get to watch the original audio track.

Elsa… Elsa swings her hips when she walks! And she has a smirk! She feels and is in turmoil and doesn’t seek a man to fix her life. She wants to be left alone, but of course- all she needs is open up her heart to her sister! Of course I love it.

BiBi’s Unlock Concert Rehearsal

BiBi’s doing a concert in Beijing (if she hasn’t done it by now, it’s one of these days), and my pal is attending. And even though I doesn’t feel like I’ve been an ardent BiBi fan for a bit, this rehearsal has made me giddy (and slightly jealous) to be there.

Laura Pausini + Lara Fabian – La Solitudine Live in Rome

I’ve watched this performance — specifically this performance — of La Solitudine a few couple of times because I’m astonished by Laura Pausini and Lara Fabian’s voice combination.

A little part of me regrets never attending a Laura Pausini concert. I love Pausini’s voice, but at the same time most of her songs sound a lot similar to me — like, I can’t tell them apart. I know I should sit myself and just give it all a listen, the same with Lara Fabian’s full discography. Believe, I try to do that as often as I can.

A multicultural music list is brewing in my head.

Faith Hill Can Hear You Breathe

I can’t exactly remember when was the first time I listened to Faith Hill (unlike my Dixie Chicks story), but I’m certain it was because of Breathe. I bought the album on that same trip, and I remember being incredibly excited for the Grammy that year when Faith performed the song and I was in L.A. at a mere distance from the Staple Center.

Stalkery (and voyeuristic) feelings aside. I just really REALLY loved the song and the music video was sooooooooooooooooooo simple but it was just- you know -good to look at. There’s just a few music videos where I would allow just looking at beautiful people, and this one is one of them. The other one that comes immediately to mind is Sinéad O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U [MV].

Now it seems most music videos aim for the shock factor, and I really can’t blame them. We’ve got the attention span of a goldfish.

Also, Faith Hill’s got a new album coming out this year!!! After the release of Fireflies in 2005, I’ve been deprived of much country music.

JeA – While You’re Sleeping on MusicBank

I got the album overnight, and I have listened to it a couple of times. I’m beginning to really dig the instrumentalization and the ending of While You’re Sleeping, but I’m still surprised JeA (and her engineer) is choosing to do all her air intakes with the microphone so close to her mouth that you listen to it all. I could maybe understand it if it was only the live version, but it’s also on the album… which is all the more noticeable.

JeA’s The Winter Rain Falls

Korea has a show called Immortal Song that basically pits popular singers performing songs of a selected theme/singer/era in front of the audience made out of people who listened to that type of music. Think of it as a show where you would gather the likes of Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, sprinkled with a few picks like Demi Lovato and whoever people think are good vocalists nowadays, and having them competing against each other in things like “Themes from the 80s” and having all of them battle (A vs. B) with a song performance to move onto the next battle.

Once a week. Yeah, impossible to do in America.

But so good for ratings, no? Could you imagine? I would pay money to see Christina Aguilera vs. battling with Britney Spears — not a duet, a performance battle. Simon, get to it.

ANYWAY, I completely digress.

Brown Eyed Girls member JeA has been on the show’s newest season, and though she lost her battle — T_T — the second half of her performance is pure perfection. She started off breathing too much into her microphone, but once the high notes began, she seemed to have gotten her footing and by the time she had to deliver those whispery notes… it was too much.

JeA is singing The Winter Rain Falls (겨울비는 내리고) by Kim Bum Ryong (김범룡), in honor of this week’s 80’s songwriter theme.

While watching the latest version of Sparkle — besides checking out Carmen Ejogo (*legasp* English??) and fist-pumping for Tika Sumpter — the most emotional scene in the whole movie, which had me side-drying the “single” tear that kept on rolling down my left cheek, was when Whitney performed that song. And I didn’t even cry when her death was announced (more liked shocked). It’s just one of those powerful spiritual moments.

The Voice of China: My Top4

This is it. This is why I don’t follow reality TV contests, and this is my final posting on The Voice of China, which I had greatly enjoyed at the beginning for its variety in music styles.

But after a few episodes that tended to be on the frustrating side… I just… can’t take it any longer. I think the final is next episode (and Adam Lambert is supposed to be on). It was a good ride, but I do not wish to see the ending to this.

The Voice of China: Give your Neverending Love… Like the Moon~

Damn. Was I just trolled? Did I just say it’s an OMG moment and had my pick of last week just eliminated??? I’m still uncertain, but it seems like Liu Yue was eliminated against her Feeling Good performance.

On episode 8, it was Harlem Yu’s turn. From his team, I had a few favorites — like Wang Yun Yi (王韵壹) [1], Wei Yu Nuo (魏语诺) [1], Jin Chi (金池) [1], and a very VERY soft spot for the Amisi Girls (阿蜜丝女孩) [1] coz their arrangement of Leehom’s Mei [MV] was so much fun xD. So I was BUMMED that I had to choose between Wei Yu Nuo and Jin Chi on the first round of battles.

At first, I thought that Jin Chi was gonna take it really easy because she has such control of her voice, but I was surprised by Wei Yu Nuo who gave her own UMPH while doing a battle performance of Aaron Kwok’s Give your Neverending Love (对你爱不完) [clip]. They were really great together and after rather two weak duos, they seemed to put themselves forward as the best of the episode with their number, until…

This The Same Moonlight (一样的月光) performance by Wang Yun Yi and Zhao Ke (赵可).

and though… none of them made it after the deadly cut… with a rather weak “battle for my own” performance by Wang, they have a close to perfect performance with this. They maybe should collaborate in another project together.

I really REALLY hope Jin Chi makes it to the Top4, at least.

Next up! Na Ying’s team. It seems to be the strongest, but it also means a lot of good people are going to get cut.
