Archives For discovery kids

This is a rant. xD

I’ve never been religious… I was as catholic as a 5-year-old could get when their aunts are catholic/christian. Every time we would cross a local church, I would do the cross sign, and I had at least once done the local church tour for Easter week.

I have the utmost respect for people and their selected religion.

However, it really irks me when religious people go on and put down other religion’s beliefs, which is the worse kind of religion and the preferred type churches want their followers to have.

It’s such a pity, because religion can be such a fulfilling experience to some. It makes your life lighter, and sometimes it can get you going.

Guys, you can be logical and have faith. It’s like that bit on Peter Pan. I do believe in fairies, I do! I do! It’s a wonderful thing to have, and to feel.

Ghostwriter on DVD

June 27, 2010 — Leave a comment

Well, color me surprise~

Years ago when Discovery Kids was for kids, and it was on Channel 84 or something, there was a show called Ghostwriter, which told the story of a bunch of kids — I thought they were old kids back then LOL — that solved mysteries with the help of some type of ghost that could only communicate through writing.

Funny thing is, I saw it dubbed in Spanish… so watching it in English was a different experience.

As you can see, the first season has just been released on DVD. So why hasn’t The Adventures of Shirley Holmes been released yet? I demand it!

I have just gone through the first chapter, titled Ghost Story, which in itself contains like 5 episodes of nearly 30min. It was a bizarre experience… remembering what it was about, but then listening to the English. For once, I never knew Alex and Gabby (#1, who was a better Gabby anyway) talked Spanish… I mean, Spanglish at home. Never crossed my mind, because to me… they always spoke Spanish. LOL

While watching it, I also felt this would be a great series to revamp. Even though I am so very against remaking things, I think Ghostwriter would be pretty awesome in a new version… with slightly less 90’s Ghostwriter graphics, and much more natural dialog. Plus, nothing wrong with remaking educational programs, right? But then again, this is not a money-maker, so people aren’t interested in a revamp.

This show hasn’t age as well as Shirley Holmes has, but granted… Shirley is like 5 years ahead of Ghostwriter, and has a different budget, and it isn’t supposed to be educational.

This is an un-official “Why the 90’s Ruled or Not”.

Remember those days when Discovery Kids (Latin America) was actually for kids – you know, 10-13 year old kids – and not babies~~ I mean, COME ON! Teletubbies??? Shoot me in the face already!!

Back in the day, when I was a 10 year old kid… my family first got cable. If I recall correctly, Discovery Kids Latin America used to be in channel 65 or 85 or something, and it had awesome programming for intellectual kids like me~~ Truth be told, most my younger cousins didn’t watch Discovery Kids ever, but I did… and I’m an avid TV watcher since I was a kid. That’s my market~

What did I used to watch on Discovery Kids? Well, I had my first introduction to the Internet thanks to them! Cyberkids was one of the programs I used to watch, and probably shaped me in the way that I am today… you know? Blogger, Web Designer, Web Surfer~~~
