  • Camille, Moulin Rouge and Garbo

Nicole Kidman as SatineMoulin Rouge is one of my favorite films because of its soundtrack, art direction, choreography, and overall production ++ plus it’s an idealistic angsty story about a courtesan and a pennyless writer who fall in love in the midst of the Bohemian revolution that swept Paris.

Freedom. Beauty. Trust. And above all things, Love.

Nicole Kidman is great in the film, as well as Ewan McGregor and John Leguizamo. Zidler and The Duke are excellent, especially in the “Like A Virgin” musical number. It is very hard not to like and enjoy this film, unless… of course, you don’t like Musicals at all.

Recently, I got my Greta Garbo collection, which includes 10 discs, and over 12 films – which kicks ass. I’m in the third disc, and just finished watching Camille, both the 1921 Silent Film and Greta Garbo’s.

First of all, Garbo was excellent in this film, especially in the last act. And although the Silent version might have been great in its time, I think the story loses subtlety without dialog an the exaggerated facial expressions. That’s why I prefer the 1936 version better ^^

It is such a pity that Garbo was competing against Vivian Leigh, who won the Best Actress Academy Award for Gone with the Wind that same year. Marguerite, just as Satine in Moulin Rouge, is a courtesan who doesn’t believe in True Love, and instead trades her love for diamonds and bracelets, until she mistakes mid-class Armand Duval for a rich Count.

  • The Lost Tomb of Emo-Spidey

April 29 – saw The Lost Tomb of Jesus. Pretty boring and general stuff, but good to know I guess… just for general knowledge. The Church just makes such a big deal about it, it just attracts more attention. Worth a watch if you catch it zapping your TV, not worth a wait… Actually, it would make sense to have Jesus ascending to Heaven, and leaving his body <- metaphoric for dying and moving on. But, bleh. No flamers, please.

Next on the list. Spiderman 3- it came out May 3rd! I gloat because *official release date* is May 4th. Anyway, nothing really AWESOME, like some people say. Effects were good, fight scenes were entertaining, and I even got a bit dizzy on one, but 70% of the film was bleh. First, I don’t like Mary Jane much… movie 1 ok, movie 2 not so ok… now, just plain annoying. Gwen was just a bit of a bimbo, and I liked her more than I did MJ. *PLUS* – Bryce Dallas Howard looks weird as a blond blond. She’s too white, lol.

And what is up with Emo Spiderman? He gets Venom infected and he suddenly changes his hairstyle? Lol. Reminds me of the EVIL GOTH MUTANTS from X3. Not all people that dress in black and have messy hair style are EVIL. Oh, Venom~ Venom is cool, when you DON’T consider that Eddie Brock was a wimpy photographer… didn’t like the character. Sandman didn’t look as GREAT as Venom, but I guess his character was ok. And Harry… oh, Harry~ he was okay, I guess.

Biggest turn-off: Peter “John Travolta” Parker.

Best part: Jameson lines, and last final battle… when we finally see Venom.

  • FX & Animation School me ofende

    School Ad

  • My Dæmon

My Dæmon is an Ocelot that looks like a domestic cat. His name is Gabriel. Golden Compass looks like such an awesome film. Can’t wait for Mrs. Coulter and Serafina Pekkala x’D

  • P2P, Torrents, Legal Downloads, Oh My!

Okay, I’m sleepy. It’s 5 a.m. but I won’t be able to sleep if I think of forgetting about this when I wake up. Tuesdays mark “new CDs and DVDs” day, I should know, I was the one going on a shopping trip every Tuesday to get my favorite music and movies in Canada. Don’t do it here in Peru, mainly because there is not “new merchandise” day that I know of, and things just don’t get here in time.

Anyway, for anyone – I am the ideal consumer. If I like your product, I will likely buy it. However, products have been sucking lately… also because I hate thinking Blu-ray discs and HD are on the market now, so studios are not releasing two-discs DVDs anymore.

But let’s talk about music as a more general example. (more…)

  • Discovery Channel keeps the secret from Latin America.

Today was the day Discovery Channel was gonna premiere The Lost Tomb of Jesus, the James Cameron documentary that everyone is fuzzing about. However, Discovery has decided to postpone the date to April 29th.

    FUCK UPS.

Couldn’t you come up with a 15sec video telling me so? I had to fucking google it up to find out????

    From cineencuentro.com,

FUCKERS, couldn’t you let me know WAY BEFORE March 18? I had to fucking go INTO the Discovery Channel FORUMS to FUCKING FIND OUT????

    From Discovery Channel Forums,

    FUCKER DUMB FUCKS~

  • Buzzy Bee

This past week has been really really busy, while designing CD Artwork, re-programming a website, talking to clients for future projects, writing my series pilot, trying to write my short film, and designing a book. *phew*

I feel tired just thinking about it all…

It seems like a lot… but not a lot of money, so it kinda sucks.

Anyway, I took some time off to watch ANTM8, the episode was OK. I felt sad for Jael, but holy crap~ Britanny’s photo kicked ass. I loved her expression, it was great~ I was also glad to see Sarah doing good… she had great eyes in her picture. :)

    Brittany on the Candy Photoshoot

    Enjoy,

  • YouTube keeps on removing stuff!

I wanted to rant about this on Thursday, but I totally forgot about it. So, Peru sucks… television-wise. I mean, I would love to be legal about all sort of stuff… for example, watching TV shows on TV, but I can’t do it, so I watch it on YouTube because I’m not willing to download 300MB for an episode. I can’t watch shows that I want on TV, because they either take 6 months for Sony Entertainment (in the case of America’s Next Top Model) to bring the new episodes, or they NEVER bring the episodes. So, networks, SUCK IT UP!

Recently, DirectTV just set up their signal in Peru, but they pretty much show what Cable Magico is showcasing in its regular lineup, and it doesn’t include channels like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX (America), FX (America) or CW Network. About 8 or 9 years ago, Cable Magico used to have ABC, NBC, CBS and The WB, which was GREAT because I used to be able to watch the episodes of my favorite shows the day they premiered in the States, and I didn’t had to wait for Latin American networks to subtitle them. For the past 7 or 8 years, I haven’t been able to.

What’s the point in me getting DirectTV, or any other Satellite TV Company when I will ALWAYS have to wait for shows because they don’t buy the rights to American broadcasting companies. However, if they DID give me the chance to get these channels, or channels from Canada, or the UK or all over the world, I would totally get Satellite. Right now, it doesn’t bring ANY benefits to me.

So, here’s the other problem~ YouTube keeps taking things out. You fucking bastards! (I said this was a rant!) – Ever since Google bought it, it’s been sucking more and more. One really fun video of Anya as a bunny got suddenly removed, and the account of the user who did it was removed- that was seriously not breaking any copyrighted material, that fan had all the right to do that video. I know of other 2 or 3 users whose accounts got deleted.

So, networks, if you don’t want your material to be watched online because it hasn’t aired in one region, then start airing your effing episodes everywhere, so people, who watch your show and are not able to get your signal, don’t watch on YouTube. And continuing with the CW Network example, you effing bastards – just send the signal to Cable Magico (and other cable companies around the world), so they can broadcast the same day. It WON’T get rid off the problem, but it will decrease the amount of people who watch online. Just like what happens with movies that open worldwide… There’s still online files, but there’s also people around the world who go to the movie and watch (unless your movie sucks) – but even IF YOUR SHOW SUCKS, they don’t pay to watch it… so there will still be people who will watch it.

For instance, I wanna effing watch Dirt… by FX – BUT, Cable Magico shows FX Latin America~ SO, they are not even mentioning Dirt… and I don’t even know if FX Latin America will show Dirt, because sometimes all programs jump around networks here. For example, since there was no The WB, Buffy used to be shown on FOX… but Dawson’s Creek was on Sony Entertainment Television. Other examples are… Nip/Tuck that airs on FOX, instead of FX… Lost airs on AXN, and According to Jim (who also belongs to ABC, the same as Lost) airs on Sony… and CSI airs on Sony, while CSI NY and CSI Miami air on AXN~ so many crazy jumps and changes.

There is no effing Dirt, no Ugly Betty, no ANTM, no Hell’s Kitchen, no Iron Chef, no new episodes of Nip/Tuck, Desperate Housewives just beginning season 3 (which I began watching 6 months ago in Canada).

Other channels that we should get… Food Network, MuchMoreMusic, Showcase and Bravo!

    Ok, rant’s over.

  • Goodbye, Reba (the show)

A night or two ago, I watched the last episode of Reba. It’s so sad that such a fun show had to end, especially when there’s a lot of crap coming out. I can’t exactly tell you when I first saw Reba, but I truly began watching it on reruns while I was living in Canada. However, I couldn’t continue watching reruns, because I don’t think they show it in Latin America. A month or two ago, I saw it on TV – it was Sunday at 3.30pm on Fox, but I didn’t find it there the next week.

So I was in the boards at imdb.com and saw a topic saying that it was over, they also were kind enough to post a link to watch the two-part episode. Thank you for that.

I truly haven’t watch all the episodes, but I would watch every time I ran into it. CMT played reruns Mon-Fri at 6.pm – It was awesome. The characters were all funny, from Dan and Cheyenne’s retarded parenthood adventures, to Reba’s ironic comments on her ex-husband and her husband’s wife, Barbara Jean… to Barbara Jean’s retarded faces and comments, and Kyra’s smart-ass comments. It was a good family show that will probably share space in the hearts of people, just like shows such as Family Ties, Growing Pains, Step by Step, and Full House.

Come on! I still watch re-runs of Growing Pains on Nick@Nite at 3am, alongside The Addams Family, The Munsters and Bewitched! And if I stay later… I get to watch re-runs of Step by Step, and Full House. Hahaha – That’s how bad prime time television is nowadays!
