If FIFA’s World Cup is making me choose between Pitbull and Ricky Martin. Okay, I’ll take this~
NHK got Shiina Ringo to make a song for their coverage of the event, and that’s all we need to know. I’m not sure what’s the coverage is gonna be like down here (cable or networks), but I’m sure we’re stuck with Pitbull.
I just knew songs were gonna suck when they started announcing the social media contests to “create the song” for the World Cup. Cheap music will always be cheap.
I wanted to make a personal post for this year’s LGBT Blogathon, so I tried to think about the first time I had ever seen a prominent LGBT character. Growing up in Peru, I don’t think it was ever an issue that crossed my mind- representation, I mean. It was sort of there, hovering in my subconscious, and if I had seen LGBT related content or entertainers, it was something that wasn’t broadly discussed. Now that I think back on it, it was like the Liberace example. He was flamboyant, but people that weren’t “in the know” didn’t know or wanted to accept that Liberace was gay.
They had a Will&Grace re-run a few days or weeks ago, and even though I haven’t enjoyed the show since I was a teen… Karen still manages to make me laugh.
Here’s the clip, but be careful if it gets deleted.
As you may have already figured out, I grew up in a time when there was barely any stability. When things settled down, we had about 4 or 5 networks, usually broadcasting local productions.
But there was also syndication.
American television loves syndication, they ensure making a living with it. What’s a better example of syndication than… Baywatch. Yup, that’s my confession. I grew up with Baywatch. Especially the first season and the second… maybe the third. They re-ran those seasons a lot those years, so I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them more than once.
So when I was like 5 or 6, we would all watch the show — most likely for different reasons LOL — since we kids liked going to the beach, we would always joke that our local lifeguards looked like they had floatability devices inside them. We would laugh, and move on.
Then there was Shauni. Before there was Stephanie Holden… Shauni was the only girl in the cast — pretty sure, I could be wrong. I was Team Shauni! As a kid, I don’t know why I thought she was awesome. She seemed nice, no problems — I’m seeing a pattern here — and she had Eddie xD
I just realized I’m a crazy shipper… almost since I was born. LOL
Anyway, time passed. Country got better, we got cable. Sony had just launched their signal, and were re-running Baywatch. Browsing channels, there was this episode – or was it a movie? – of Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood. Ha! I didn’t know what a bordello was at the time. I didn’t speak any English, all I remember saying was “Hey! That’s Shauni!” And I watched it. The memory of it — me watching that — is hilarious.
So yeah, I like Erika Eleniak.
Very much like on the other tales, I was browsing channels and ended up on Sony. What a surprise it was to see Erika Eleniak on the latest season of Desperate Housewives. Color me surprise. Even if I have stopped watching the show, I… for a split second or more, considered watching the show again. Then I didn’t when I found out it was a one-ep gig.
The 60th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Sunday September 21st at 8/7c – and hopefully will be broadcast in Latin America by either TNT (latin america) or Sony Entertainment Television… but if you’re in America, just head over to ABC for it.
Anyway, that’s a little less than a month away… in the meantime, you can head over to the ABC Emmy website (click here) – where you can vote for two of your favorite memorable TV moments in the Comedy and Drama categories~~ (that means one moment for each category, people). In there, check the menu… you will notice the “memorable moments” section where you can read “comedy voting” and “drama voting” ~~~ knock yourself out with it. I am hoping you can vote for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer moment in the Drama category, from the episode The Gift… which could’ve made a GREAT ending, if the series had ended there~~
Loads of funny moments in the Comedy category too… like the Ellen moment when she comes out (and Laura Dern hugs her), and the I Love Lucy bit one… which had me laughing. Lucy always gets me laughing like a maniac. LOL
