Welcome to YouTube, Japan~

Or, at least, you got your first steps into the door.

Yes, Shiina Ringo music videos are being uploaded on VEVO accounts, as well as Tokyo Jihen ones, at 360p or 480p- BUT, baby steps. They’re pretty good 360p videos, though. They look better than some HD versions unofficially uploaded and ripped from the net. I’m not picky as long as Japan lets me watch the music videos of the artists I like and stops me from worrying whether the video I’m posting is gonna disappear in the next few days.

Speaking of the devil.

The main culprit is, of course, Sony Music Entertainment (SME) with their usual notice of “this content is not available in your country.” and their killer content take-down [1][2][3][4]. And in Japan, it feels like everyone is owned by Sony xD that’s why I have such a hard time with Mika Nakashima, when all her uploads on her channel are region restricted. However, it seems that she’s also got a VEVO account revamped this past February.

It used to have only that one fully-uploaded video [1], but now they’ve been uploading short versions of the PV

It’s Japan — and it’s SME. I’ll take what I can. I hope they start uploading MVs at the time of release, even if they’re one-minute or two-minute clips. Remember, Japan used to not care about it.

They’ve also become a bit better with iTunes! The other day I had Shiina Ringo’s latest single ready on my store.
