Oscar 2010 Winner Predictions

March 6, 2010 — 1 Comment

I’d figure I’d make this post count for today, instead of tomorrow xD – If you followed, I made Oscar 2010 Nomination Predictions which were pretty okay, except it was 10% down from last year. But my record is 85%

As for my Oscar winners, last year I made a 20/24… that’s 83%, though my record is 87% in 2003 xD

Predictions include “most likely to win” to “less likely to win”

According to these predictions (can’t believe I’m wishing that I get it wrong!) – Hurt Locker wins 3, and Avatar wins 6 – though they’re all technical.

So how say you?

Best Actor:
Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart 1
– George Clooney – Up in the Air 3
– Colin Firth – A Single Man 2
– Jeremy Renner – The Hurt Locker 5
– Morgan Freeman – Invictus 4

I would like Firth for A Single Man, but HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

Supporting Actor:
Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds 1
– Woody Harrelson – The Messenger 3
– Christopher Plummer – The Last Station 4
– Stanley Tucci – The Lovely Bones 2
– Matt Damon – Invictus 5

This is an obvious one, right? Though there still could be an upset with Tucci.

Best Actress:
– Meryl Streep – Julie & Julia 3
Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side 1
– Helen Mirren – The Last Station 5
– Carey Mulligan – An Education 2
– Gabourey Sidibe – Precious 4

All year, this took me by surprise. I enjoyed La Streep, but I don’t think her and Sandie B. will be canceling each other out. But there’s always hope for Mulligan, whom I’m pulling for~~~

Supporting Actress:
Mo’Nique – Precious 1
– Vera Farmiga – Up in the Air 3
– Anna Kendrick – Up in the Air 2
– Penelope Cruz – Nine 4
– Maggie Gyllengaal – Crazy Heart 5

This one seems like a no-brainer too. Since Farmiga and Kendrick will be canceling each other out.

Director:
Kathryn Bigelow – Hurt Locker 1
– James Cameron – Avatar 2
– Jason Reitman – Up in the Air 4
– Quentin Tarantino – Inglourious Basterds 3
– Lee Daniels – Precious 5

Bigelow seems like a shoo-in, even though I’m pulling for Tarantino.
I still think this was a weak year for movies overall…

Best Film:
– Avatar 2
Hurt Locker 1
– Inglourious Basterds 3
– Precious 4
– Up in the Air 5
– The Blind Side 10
– Up 6
– District 9 8
– An Education 7
– A Serious Man 9

Why are THESE 10 again? You’ve seen me ranting about 2009 films before…

Animated Feature:
Up 1
– Coraline 3
– Fantastic Mr. Fox 2
– Princess and the Frog 4
– The Secret of Kells 5

Obvious, right?

Art Direction:
Avatar 1
– Nine 3
– The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus 4
– Sherlock Holmes 5
– The Young Victoria 2

I’m going with the Blockbuster and tech hit for all technical awards… though I’m really pulling for Parnassus xD

Cinematography:
Avatar 1
– The Hurt Locker 2
– Inglourious Basterds 4
– Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 5
– The White Ribbon 3

# of people watching, # of people voting… Avatar. Though I’m hoping White Ribbon or Basterds win.

Costume Design:
– Bright Star 2
– Coco Before Chanel 3
– The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus 4
– Nine 5
The Young Victoria 1

I really thought Bright Star and Young Victoria would be cancel out on nomination day, but alas~ I’m supporting Parnassus on this one~~~

Film Editing:
Avatar 1
– District 9 4
– The Hurt Locker 2
– Inglourious Basterds 3
– Precious 5

Very unlikely that a drama wins this, but I want District 9 or Basterds xD – and why didn’t they nominated Up in the Air on this one, even though I’m saying dramas don’t win here. The editing in UitA was pretty brilliant.

Foreign Film:
– Un Prophete (A Prophet) (France) 2
Das Weisse Band (The White Ribbon) (Germany) 1
– Ajami (Israel) 4
– El Secreto de sus Ojos (Argentina) 3
– La Teta Asustada (The Milk of Sorrow) (Peru) 5

Unlike someone mentioned, kind of unlikely that Peru wins. Of course, I’m pushing for Un Prophete.

Makeup:
– Il Divo 3
– Star Trek 2
The Young Victoria 1

Original Score:
Up 1
– Avatar 3
– Fantastic Mr. Fox 4
– The Hurt Locker 2
– Sherlock Holmes 5

Original Song:
The Weary Kind (Crazy Heart) 1
– Down in New Orleans (The Princess and the Frog) 5
– Almost There (The Princess and the Frog) 4
– Loin de Paname (Paris 36) 3
– Take it All (Nine) 2

Even though I did like TPatF, and that Almost There has the better chances… they will be canceling each other out. I preferred Ma Belle Evangeline anyways~~~ Does anyone know if Marion will be performing Take it All? LOL

Sound Editing:
Avatar 1
– The Hurt Locker 2
– Inglourious Basterds 5
– Up 3
– Star Trek 4

Sound Mixing:
Avatar 1
– The Hurt Locker 2
– Inglourious Basterds 5
– Star Trek 4
– Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen 3

Visual Effects:
Avatar 1
– District 9 2
– Star Trek 3

Though I really enjoyed Avatar 3D, it wasn’t the “effects” perse )I hated the 2D graphics), but the way of filmmaking was outstanding. But in the end, I really want District 9 to win. xD

Original Screenplay:
The Hurt Locker 1
– Inglourious Basterds 3
– The Messenger 4
– A Serious Man 5
– Up 2

Adapted Screenplay:
– An Education 4
– District 9 2
– In the Loop 5
Up in the Air 1
– Precious 3

Even though I did love Up in the Air, I want District 9 to win.
