Jessica Simpson – Come On Over

So… just listening to her new track. Actually, did anyone find her switch to country a surprise? LOL, I actually think that was something that always lingered on her.

Ok, just to be clear. I like country music, ok? I am probably one of the only ones who will tell people straight on… “hey, I listen to country music and it ain’t as bad as you make it sound.” Some of my favorite songs are country songs… maybe not the fast-driven ones, but I love me some country ballads. For instance, the magnificent Whiskey Lullaby (Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, who has a beautiful voice). I love the song, and it has such a sad story behind its lyrics.

She put him out like the burnin’ end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin’ to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind,
Until the night.

He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I’ll love her ’til I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby.

Or another Brad Paisley track, this time with Dolly Parton. When I Get Where I’m Going – This song, when I die… I want this song playing on my funeral. LOL

When I get where I’m goin’
There’ll be only happy tears
I’ll shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I’ll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I’m goin’
Don’t cry for me down here.

I’m gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he’ll match me step for step
And I’ll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
And then I’ll hug his neck.

So yeah, I listen to Brad Paisley… thought I prefer listening to Alison Krauss. I listen to Faith Hill, and Shania Twain… I have Billy Gilman albums, and also SheDaisy. I have all Dixie Chicks albums, LOL’ and have a soft spot for this song from the album Home. Travelin’ Soldier.

I still think Home was a better album than Taking the Long Way, but have grown to appreciate it as well… especially Silent House. Anyway, I leave you with Jessica Simpson’s new country-ish track Come on Over from her upcoming country debut.

  1. I really like about the first 10 secs of the song, but then it sort of fades into a regular pop/country crossover song. Kinda like how I feel about Carrie Underwood’s music. I sorta enjoy Taylor Swift music more than them…

  2. U are such an unique individual (when it comes to music) Being your friend means being constantly exposed to awesome culture. Thanx!
