  • Yu Aoi Film Discussion – Welcome to the Quiet Room

    Something about the film:
Quiet Room ni Youkoso is a 2007 dramedy telling the story of Asuka Sakura, a up-and-coming journalist who is trying to write an 800-character article, but one day wakes up and finds herself strapped inside the room of a psych ward. Inside, they tell her she had OD’ed, even when Asuka tells them it was an accident, they say she must go through mental treatment so she won’t do it again. During that time, she meets a few unique people that will or won’t mark her for the rest of her life…

Genre: Dramedy… mind you, Drama is pretty straight forward, but Comedy is pretty dark.
Starring: Yuki Uchida, Kankuro Kudo, Yu Aoi
Appearances by: Ryo, Shinobu Otake, Yuko Nakamura, Mai Takahashi, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Hideaki Anno, Shinya Tsukamoto, Kami Hiraiwa
    Duration: Almost 2hrs

  • Medical Drama Meets Power Rangers?

LOL, that’s how I felt watching episode 1 (out of 6) of the TBS drama Godhand Teru starring Yuta Hiraoka, whom I totally recognize from Swing Girls. LOL But, honestly, I’m watching this because of Asami Mizukawa~~ I just ran into it, saw her and well… let’s give it a try~ After all, I did enjoy the last show I saw with her.

Also, when di Hiraoka Yuta get kind of hot? LOL’ he was totally working the dorkability alongside Juri Ueno back in Swing Girls… and he’s also sporting a bit of a dork vibe~~~ I mean, I did recognize him for it!

The drama seems interesting, and probably will finish watching it… unlike Voice (even Eita couldn’t push me to finish that show) ~~ after all! Godhand is only 6eps, I can deal with that…

As for the Power Rangers reference? Well, Teru (Hiraoka) has sort of a superpower (to simplify things a bit) that was handover by his dad when he died on a t errible plane crash… this power takes over Teru each time there’s a life or death situation, and it’s totally Power Rangers that sequence~ LOL’

  • Ike-chan to Boku Trailer

Ike-chan and Me TrailerNippon Cinema has just posted the trailer released by Kadokawa Pictures~~~ with a brief intro by Yu and…

    Ike-chan to Boku, mitte kudasai~~~

Trailer has a whole bunch of new footage to me… unless they’ve been releasing clips through their website, which I’m not aware of. However, Ike-chan still looks out of place, no? Pops out from the picture… doesn’t look as cute as the one on paper… you think?

Head over here for the trailer via Nippon Cinema.

  • Oscar 2009: Best Short Films Animated Nominees

I finally got to see Tsumiki no Ie (or La Maison en Petits Cubes)!! This year’s Academy Award-winning animated short~~~ I remember I had only read the synopsis, after watching all the other four nominated shorts, and thought “Wow, that’s a pretty interesting write-up. I’m giving it my vote” and then it WON. Woohoo!

Well, perhaps it was just chance~~ After watching it, I feel it was very deserving. To tell you the truth, I’m a little tired of 3d animation, so watching this was like a breath of fresh air. It’s a quiet little piece that explores the memories of an old man that was forced to ‘bury’ part of his history… I liked it. It made me feel very melancholic~~ NO dialogue… though I’ve read the Japanese version has a voiced-over version (by Masami Nagasawa… which surprised me a little.) – However, I don’t think the piece needs narration~~~

Check out the shorts after the break,

  • Yu Aoi Film Discussion – Mushishi – Bugmaster

Now, let’s see… I wrote this review a long while ago. So long ago that I ended up watching the anime series xP

I’ve re-checked this review to try and have a balance between someone who didn’t know anything about Mushishi, and someone who saw the anime, and I think this review serves its purpose. Many of the things I felt weren’t properly built up, are in fact because the anime is very episode-based, and not much of a series… which I liked by the way. The anime is really REALLY great, so if you’re thinking of watching it after (or before) the film, go watch it.

    Anyway… here we go~~

    Something about the film:
    (from Wikipedia)
This is a 2006 Live Action adaptation of the Manga series by Yuki Urushibara, featuring ubiquitous creatures called Mushi, which most humans are incapable of perceiving. However, there are few who possess the ability to see and interact with them, one of them is Ginko who refers to himself as a Mushishi (or Bugmaster), traveling from place to place to research Mushi and help people suffering from problems caused by them.

The film corresponds to chapters 2, 7, 9 and 15 of the Manga.

    Genre: Fantasy
Starring: Joe Odagiri, Nao Omori, Makiko Esumi, Yu Aoi
    Duration: +2hrs

You know the drill. Spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned.
