BiBi for Elle China

September 17, 2011 — 1 Comment

I never, in my life, would’ve thought that I would ever post a photoshoot featuring BiBi. Alas, here it is at the heels of promoting a new album and a new single — Black Apple [1] — BiBi looking quite fashion.

I can almost hear her BiBi laugh in this picture.

I’ve had experiences with the artists I’d like to see and chasing after them… until finally they come to me. LOL

It happened to me with Bjork, chasing her across Europe — missing her in Finland, Sweden… and later Madrid. Defeated back home, it wasn’t but a few weeks or a few months when Bjork announced she was going to be doing a show in Lima.

Something similar happened to me with the Backstreet Boys.  After a failed Canadian visa for a friend’s wedding, I had already tickets for the BSB show in Vancouver that I ended up giving to my ex-roommate. I was pissed off at the embassy for denying me entry, and barely a month later, I head that BSB was going to play Lima.

For a while now, I had been lamenting not being able to attend many Asian concerts, and when Miyavi announced that he’d be playing in Chile, I thought I could go there. I hadn’t heard from the festival organizers, but today I got word that Miyavi was playing Lima as well.

Well, FUCK YEAH!

Welcome to my personal contribution to YAM Magazine’s LGBT Blogathon.

In this particular post we will be talking about Taiwanese boiband MISSTER, which I have already talked about on this MISSTER 101 post I did a while back.

Unlike the rest of the world, who have shunned dancing boybands (and girl groups) for more “rocking” affairs or idols who can’t dance at all, Asia is still a place where such groups have flourished for the past decade. The pop music industry is alive and well there, over-saturating our ears with danceable sugary pop tunes sung by idols that look so polished that it hurts.

MissTer 101

March 8, 2011 — 8 Comments

There’s a pretty personality-insightful making-of article in regards of Taiwan’s first and brand-new Boi-band, who in their second single Super Lover are urging a pretty lady to not give up on love.

I think I’ve finally figured out who is who. Ha!

First, there’s leader Jin Tai (the one with the glasses). Then there’s Qiu Qiu the former dance instructor (top third on the left), Milk is the one with the blueish tones on her hair, Chris (? Zi Lun?) (the one with the humping face), and finally Chiao (Qiao) the one with the blond hair.

And I’ve already picked my favorite. LOL

Women in Boy Style

August 23, 2010 — 1 Comment

Hi, AfterEllen has a post on women in Boy Style. Ahhh Boy Style [1],  I gotta admit dude… wearing slacks and shirts, it’s just so much more comfy than having to wear some dress with high heels.

And yes, Christina Hendricks is pretty awesome.

Sure they can.

Hi, Shane. xD Okay, not Shane. Shane’s just promiscuous.

In some recent posts on Jezebel and AfterEllen, they argued the yays and nays.

One side says that no, they can’t be called slutty because there’s no shame in sleeping around. Because “slutty” is a negative word that men use to make women feel less. ‘Coz a slutty man is a dog — with the forgiveness of dogs who are supposed to be loyal, but will diddle anything that’s in heat. Oxymoron!

The other side says lesbians can be promiscuous… which some argue means the same as slut. But if you think about it, different words have different connotations… even if they seem similar.

I see the word “slutty” as being easy. Nothing to do with prostitutes, whom you know have been around since the ages. Prostitutes work, sex is their trade. Nothing easy about that. However, slutty women are easy… not because they enjoy sex on their terms — those would be promiscuous… like Shane xD — slutty women have sex on other people’s terms. Actually, no… the first sign of slutty women is how tacky they are. Slutty is an attitude, so yeah… being a slut is different to being promiscuous.

I don’t wanna state names, but some not-a-celebrity who used to be on E! Hmm… actually a lot of people on E! Entertainment are slutty. They’re tacky, and they prance around their business like it’s our business to see them. Sluts are tacky women who crave so much for attention that they’re willing to give everything for it.

On the other side, you might think that Dita Von Teese, being a burlesque dancer and being nude a lot of the time, is slutty, but no. Von Teese is anything but that. If you read her or watch an interview with her, you might notice that she’s a pretty classy lady.

So being a burlesque dancer, a stripper, a companion, an escort, etc. doesn’t make you a slut. Your attitude is what makes the difference between a slut or not, while sleeping around makes the difference between being promiscuous or not. Not that I accept being promiscuous… though, you know… I love Shane, but that’s only because she’s such a good pal to everyone. I can be friends with someone who sleeps around, but I don’t think I could date someone like that. In theory, I’m up for an open relationship… in practice, I dunno.

So as conclusion… xD I, for one, think that men and women can be slutty. But that’s just me. If queer women can/can’t be slutty… what happens to queer men?

And you know what’s funnier (weird)?

My dad agrees. Hahahahaha. This is why dad rocks~

So I was showing my dad Jing’s latest music video, and we were agreeing (again) that before you realized that the video was about Cyndi Wang and her dead boyfriend, that it felt kinda gay-ish with Jing waking up next to Wang. Anyway, we ended up searching for Jing’s performances in her idol days…

I’m telling you, JingCastleSubs are the best.

And, OMG! She’s so handsome xD and I told my dad “wow, she looks more handsome than my cousins” and we burst out laughing, coz we always pick on family like this. And then we got sad… just watch the video, awwww just wanna hug her so she doesn’t cry… and then she rubs her eyes – through her non-glasses glasses, so we burst out laughing again.

My dad’s totally having an identity crisis, I just know it. LOL

And you know what’s even funnier??? The first time Jing performs on the show, the host first says “I thought this one was a girl.” Once Jing tells her she is, the host tells her that she’s a little too handsome. She totally is. LOL

Starring singer/actress Cyndi Wang. Why?

“A music video always needs a beautiful girl!” said Jing.

In this MV Cyndi’s character decides to move homes after her boyfriend suddenly passes away. However, she is unable to forget her past love and returns to her old home in search of any memories. Jing is the new resident of Cyndi’s old apartment and so the two continuously pass by each other. On the other hand, Jing is slightly aware of the past memories held in this apartment. Out of the blue, while Jing is at a café, she draws a sketch of the unfamiliar, yet familiar girl.

It’s like idols pee music videos in Asia… how long has it been since The Opposite Me, and Broken were released? Yeah, like two weeks? So it’s 3 singles with an album that just came out a week ago. Western musicians release around 4 singles throughout the whole run of their album.

I have been listening to Broken (Huai Le) non-stop.

Seriously, guys.

Asia is having a Women Tuxed-off. First with the likes of Chris Lee and BiBi…

Now~~~ Hello Jing Chang!

She won the first season of Super Idol in Taiwan, and is actually signed on Gold Typhoon, which is also BiBi’s label now — someone’s got a fetish for girls in tuxes… LOL

Call it subtext. TOO much subtext.

Actually, can I just say Bibi’s face in the last few seconds of the video, on the close-up, she looks really really GOOD. Like her face is amazing on that shot. And you get DOUBLE amazing face. I was wondering there… “OMG, is she going to do it?” It was tension… did you feel it?

EDIT
The Youku version seems to look better than the YouTube one. After all, it does say it’s HD (高清) – Gao Qing means High Clarity, hence HD… though had to look where to turn the HD on xD HD is so much simpler…

EDIT 2
Found the proper version by Typhoon Group (Bibi’s company), so in case you want the Youku one.

as far as music goes? I think it works with the image, though I don’t know how that will translate on overall album work… I am getting curious. I miss original Bibi though, I need to hear her original voice. Her lower voice is so awesome… she’s so eclectic on Canned Fish.

I wonder why Canned Fish too…

All I think about when saying Canned Fish is THIS Canned Fish. You know? The One? With rice… I grew up… or I mean, didn’t grow up with that one. Guilty pleasure. Always reminds me of my grandfather. That and fried eggs on white rice and soy sauce. Classic.
