Archives For mcdull

Oh, Happy Chinese New Year! Let’s start my (supposedly) bad-luck Goat Year with the now-mandatory Letterboxd list of my film collection~

amys-film-collection-letterboxd

I have a really weird history with films– born in the late 80s, you’d think I would’ve grown watching loads of 90s kids stuff, but I actually grew up with a lot of Silly Symphonies (which were released in the 30s) and loads of Disney 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s stuff, plus a lot of more grown up 80s movies. Poltergeist, The Thing, The Fly and The Stuff were particularly scary stuff (and I’m pretty sure I was scared of yogurt or white stuff at some point).

I don’t ever remember buying any original VHS tape, except for the rare birthday gift of a Disney’s Sing-Along Songs chapter or that X-Men tape I have. My first DVDs buys were Coyote Ugly, She’s All That and Loser — you can’t blame me. I was a 15-year-old girl. The collection grew bigger, and possibly exploded during my years abroad. I’m nearing my 500th movie.

Of course it’s not, but~ it could be. xD

Ahh… I hope I can finish this post in less than 30min. LOL Or sure I’ll be whining with the people at Anomalous Material for posting so many Memes xD

But we’re lazy, so we’re doing a 31-day Meme into one post. Just like we did on the TV Meme… only with more pictures! Because I think that TV Meme needs photos, right?

1. A Sequel that Shouldn’t Have Been Made

You know there should be something wrong when all the sequels went straight to DVD. That’s a sad sad ending for a good cheesy film like Bring it On. The sequels bring so much shame when mentioning Bring it On, which by the way had Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku… and Gabrielle Union. And cheers. I said Brrrr it’s cold in here! There must be some Clovers in the atmosphere~~~ LOL a perfect introduction to setup what the cheese will be about, and a more poppy-end-of-the 90s-rendition of Hey, Mickey!

And we continue to go through the years and film~

Some interesting observations on this one? There were a lot of GOOD male performances. I guess it’s by years, but I thought it was so tough to choose my Best Actors this time.

xD

I just bought the whole McDull collection over at YesAsia xD, complete with a pre-order for the latest McDull film – Kung Fu Kindergarten… or McDull Ding Ding Dong <- buahahaha.

my mom will approve of that, though. She loved McDull.

And because YesAsia was offering extra special offers, I bought (finally) Battle Royale and Kim Ki Duk’s Breath, I just wished they had marked 3-Iron as well xD hahaha

crap, and then I wonder why I’m always pissed ass broke, eh?

And still, wanna buy more stuff xD – Wanna complete my Shunji Iwai stuff with Swallowtail Butterfly, which you should totally watch, because it’s oh so awesome.

3 a.m. online shopping it’s oh so dangerous~~~

Oh no, I didn’t~~~

Oh yes, I did. LOL

The newest animated McDull film… McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten (or McDull Wudang) seems to have made a bit of money since it’s release in mainland China and Hong Kong.

McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten

In this new adventure, McDull visits mainland China for the very first time, and learns taichi. ^^ – it may all sound so simple, after all… McDull is a simple piggy. But don’t be mistaken, he’s a piggy with a big heart. For some of my thoughts on McDull, read my comments on the Alumni film which has loads of silly but with a heart~

And don’t worry… McDull himself is a Harry Potter fan. LOL – And his mom wanted to write a book too! After all, if JK could do it as a single mom, then McDull’s mom can certainly do it!!! xD

I want more McDull!

LOL’

I confess, I saw “McDull, the Alumni” because I saw a clip of Bibi, and thought it was hilarious. My first thoughts? To tell you the truth, the film is really really REALLY weird. Firstly because it starts out with some peeing contest bathroom humor – because it’s supposed to be a “double feature” but whatever~

If you actually skip that part, the film is better.

Then they tell you the story of George Washington, played by McDull and his mom. George Washington liked to chop stuff, so one day he chopped the soy chicken!!! Guilty he went to his mom and told her “Mah, I chopped the chicken.” His mother in return told him that what he had chopped wasn’t chicken, but duck. LOL ~ Turns out, McDull is a series… and this is what happens when you just watch the films. LOL

McDull, the Alumni is the third film in a series of McDull stories~~~ starting with My Life as a McDull, and followed by McDull Prince de la Bun. LOL But of the three, Alumni is the one that has to do less with McDull. Moreover, a 4th McDull film titled McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten is set to open in Hong Kong in two weeks time (though apparently it already opened in Mainland China).

McDull… or Mak Dau (in Cantonese) is the main character. Mak Dau is a little pig with a dark spot on his right eye. On the day of his birth, his mother wished for him to be intelligent… no, no~~ a businessman – no, no~~ how about as handsome as Chow Yun Fat or Tony Leung? xD But in the end, she only wishes her son would be lucky in life.

So that’s how McDull starts the journey of a pretty unremarkable life. He’s not the most handsome, he’s not bright, but he gets by~~~ dreaming, trying, failing, and trying once again.

On Alumni, McDull does a crossover with real life, as the Spring Blossom Kindergarten is celebrating it’s almost 50th anniversary, in which they will be celebrating almost 50 years of educating almost 50 years worth of graduate students who have now become pillars of society.

McDull, the Alumni

Awwww, aren’t they cute?
