  • Happy 2012!

How was the new year celebration?

Most importantly~ did you catch adorable Mana-chan performing? If you didn’t, the Maru Maru Mori Mori performance blended with the Arashi/Disney performance and anything with Disney is full of win for me. I found you this link on Nate.com of the Disney performance.

Mana-chan also had the most graceful fall on stage, that I swear it’s going to last all year and be name Most Graceful On-Stage Fall of 2012~~~ which wasn’t even 2012, but just for the sake of upload times, it was.

You can read my “review” of this years show over in: NHK scouts the web for clips, but we can’t help by talk about the Kouhaku~ blog post.

  • Los Nosequien y los Nosecuantos – Las Torres

Any Peruvian of my generation has to have grown up with, at least, one Los Nosequien y los Nosecuantos song. Maybe not Cuando tu Me Pegas [1], but certainly Magdalena [1], Los Patos y Las Patas [MV] — and obviously Las Torres.

Part political satire, part serious social commentary, part anthem, part pop hit, part party flare and full Peruvian rock — Las Torres, meaning The Towers (as in transmission towers), was a huge hit in its time and its the musical staple of the… maybe not defunct but definitely stale Los NSQ y Los NSC (for short).

Long gone are the days of the constant nights without lights due to the blowing up of transmission towers, the curfews, being a kid then was… not the bomb. Cable, internet were non-existent and any form of entertainment was limited to just the couple of channels… and you were lucky to have a working TV.

Have we ever asked ourselves what good were computers without internet?? LOL

Anyway, I digress — the wordplay in Las Torres is an obvious play on the famous Un Elefante se Balanceaba (An Elephant Swinging) [here’s a clip] which I guess you don’t have in English version of… but a close version would be the Ninety-nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall song? In the Elephant Song, you would sing that “an elephant is swinging on top of a spider’s web, seeing as it lasted, it calls one elephant more” which makes the song endless.

    So here goes my translation~

  • Song Ji Eun (Secret) featuring Jepp – Going Crazy

With this posting you know where I’m going, right? LOL

Anyway, here are the lyrics and translation of Going Crazy (미친 거니).

I kinda like that this it backwards to the rap songs with the female vocals xD Going Crazy is a female vocal song with backing rap, which goes opposite to Eminem feat. Rihanna’s Love the Way You Lie [MV], or Vico C’s Me Acuerdo [1].

  • NaMi vs. Sunny – Round and Round Mash-up Fight!

I don’t think it’s a secret that I’ve watched Sunny a lot of times since I first saw it. However, besides catching me singing to Boney M’s Sunny [1] — which both my parents are also doing just because they caught it on the background and got stuck with the song.

Actually, I’m lying – my dad has seen Sunny three times already. He loves it.

Anyway, besides singing that… and Tuck & Patti’s Time After Time and all the other songs, I’ve gotten a knack for singing NaMi’s Round and Round (빙글 빙글) just because of that infectious “bingeul bingeul” in the song. LOL

Even better! There’s a wonderful old-school vs. Sunny version mash-up!

  • How can one hate on Ashida Mana-chan?

She’s like… the cutest thing EVER. She was even cuter in this 30sec commercial when she was super tiny. OMG, I just wanna squish her little face on that hahahaha.

And she’s SUCH a great actress. You just gotta watch her break YOU down on Mother. At a drop of a dime, she’ll break your heart and make you cry. She is, obviously, since then the biggest (child) actor/idol EVER. She’s done tons of commercials, sponsors, small roles on films, headed her own television dramas, guested on several talk shows, headed her own talk show or whatever…

  • Meisa, what’s it gonna be?

Ahh… Meisa Kuroki — you know I have a soft spot for you? Somewhere deep in my brain there’s my subconscious telling me that you have potential. Then, the snarky part of me bursts out laughing when I see you in you music videos (and avoid your live performances)… and I swear I don’t mean to laugh. It’s just something that sort of happens.

  • The Song of the Seven Sons – Aomen

I don’t remember when I first watched this clip, but I remember I saw just a bit of it — the first two lines — on CCTV. Maybe it was during the 10th anniversary of the Macao Handover, but I remember the little girl singing.. it was just that, and then they cut away. At that time, I spoke no word of Mandarin (or Cantonese, or any dialect),my mother was watching with me as she listened to it and translated. She turned and told me “you know my name is not Macau, that is not my name.” — A sudden rush of emotions came over me.

I have no idea why that line was so powerful to me, I literally had to go to my room because I felt a little dust bugging me and my tears forming.

There’s another version here, just in case. And the audio on 1ting.com

That was then. I have no idea what got me tonight — must be The Flowers of War business, I always get like this when I read a lot of negative press against China since the Olympics LOL. Anyway, I went on a hunt for that song because I didn’t know what it was called, and my mother didn’t grow up in China singing it so she had no idea it was a popular children’s song.

Called the Song of the Seven Sons – Aomen (七子之歌-澳门)… apparently there’s a Taiwan version as well, but it’s not as hip [1]. I thought there might be 7 versions of the song for different regions that were part of China or something xD

Anyway, a really GOOD translation of the lyrics is hard to find, but I managed to find a good one without doing any translating work (because I’m so lazy like that) but a lot of googling. Chinese, pinyin and translations after the break!

  • The Sorcerer and the White Snake’s Promise

I love it when I listen to songs that I find translations easily. xD

It’s good to sing along to too! So I have the pinyin with who sings what to sing along to easily xD

  • The Moods of Ella Chen and Hebe Tien

You know you spend too much checking out the Cpop music scene when you look at this and think it’s the funniest thing ever because it’s so true.

I wasn’t/still not a big fan of S.H.E but I gotta admit I’ve warmed up to them, and I guess that comes from my liking of Hebe’s solo albums, which I gotta admit surprised me a lot more.

I used to — still — find Ella the most entertaining. I’ve never seen her acting, but when I catch S.H.E MVs or clips, she always cracks me up. Her face just crack me up, looking at these pictures cracks me up. That girl is hilarious.

    Then there was Hebe~~~ hahahahahaha.

  • Sony SME, I Effing Hate You! But I so Love the Dixie Chicks

I’m just guessing this is Sony’s fault because Dixie Chicks are signed under Columbia which is part of Sony, which makes it part of this whole SME Content region restriction issue. The Dixie Chicks Vevo channel is half locked for me, and I hate it. I’m sorry for the Dixie Chicks, but I fucking hate their channel.
