Enter the Dragon - PosterYes! Amy grew up with this film. I was VERY little, and my dad, being a feverish Bruce Lee fan, taped Enter the Dragon (Operación Dragón) from a broadcast at Panamericana Television (aka. Canal 5). I still remember the Spanish dub… “PANAMERICANA TELEVSION… PRESENTA!” said the voice in off, “Operación Dragón, con Bruce Lee.” – Of course, I became a feverish 4-year-old Bruce Lee fan~ My grandpa was also a fan… he even named my little cousin “Xiao Long” (FYI. Little Dragon, Bruce Lee’s Chinese name), and yeah~ I KNEW the lines… I still KNOW the lines in Spanish.

Kick me. Kick me.

What was that? We need emotional content. Try again.

I said, emotional content, not anger. Now, try again, with me.
*kicks, kicks*
That’s it!

xD, You know that scene… with Bruce Lee and the student? Right before they try to recruit Bruce to go to Han’s island??

Patéame. Patéame.

¿Qué fue eso? Mayor emoción interna…

Dancer in the Dark by Lars Von Trier remains my favorite film since the day I first saw it at the movies. I was still in high school, and it marked a totaly shift on the way I watch films… you know? Before this film, I was your most ordinary teenager… I was all about Romantic Comedies, Teenage Comedies, and did totally dismiss many other films~~ Until this film.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days PosterLast year’s award-winning Romanian film, “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” has finally arrived to screens in Lima. Mind you, just a few screens.

The film stars Anamaria Marinca as Otilia, a Romanian young woman who’s trying to help her friend to perform an illegal abortion in the 1980s.

It’s a well-acted film, and thought-provoking… which is really good if you like talking about the films afterwards…

I gave it a 4/5, and I’m probably gonna watch it again.

These are the time, but be sure to check Cine Terra.

It’s dark, it’s serious… has action, gets you to the edge of your seat. And yes, the main attraction will be Heath Ledger’s freak interpretation of messed up The Joker. Okay! SPOILERS AHEAD! <-that’s a warning, I still don’t know how much spoiling I will write.

Get Smart!

June 14, 2008 — 1 Comment

Just got back from watching Get Smart, the television-show-based film starring Steve Carell, and Anne Hathaway… alongside The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) and Alan Arkin. I did not expect watching this, so when I was invited, I took my dad who is a fan of the show. He liked it, but he’s not die-hard fan – we thought it was pretty funny. I actually heard him laughing throughout.

On year 2002, a little odd sci-fi show began showing on Fox… and as all worthy Fox shows, it got canceled. Sadly, I never saw this show when it was on the air because it was not showing in Peru in 2002, and when I got to Canada, it was already out of the air. I remember that when I returned to Lima, I saw a couple of commercials on tv, but never made anything out of it.

fireflyIt was not until my friend Nathan dragged me to the movies to watch Serenity… well, he didn’t drag me because I was more than willing to watch films, LOL’ – so when I watched the film, I was WOWed with it. And so… my friend lend me his pirated DVDs. HAHAHA. The DVD set was expensive back in the day, so I watched the whole show in less than a week and have been totally addicted to it. The same story can be told for a whole bunch of classmates, as the day arrived when the DVD set dropped in price thanks to a sale at HMV, and ALL of us went and bought it. Seriously, it’s like 6 of us went one day without knowing we did and bought the set. Like synchronized-buying.

The show is so unique that my sci-fi-fantasy-fiction-hating of a mother LOVED watching it. If you mention Lord of the Rings to my mother, she will tell you it’s well made… or Star Wars, she will tell you the story when she fell asleep during the film, a story similar to the one she will tell you when she watched Matrix. So my mother HATES this type of shows, but she LOVES Firefly – That’s how GOOD this show is… or was.

The show is set in the futuristic future (2517, to be exact), and we are screwed. LOL’ Earth is just the Earth that was, thus we were forced to search for somewhere else to live namely other planets and moons. Western culture has mashed up with Eastern culture, thus giving us great moments when our characters swear in unintelligible Chinese. Moreover, there is also The Alliance, which is very much like the Empire in Star Wars… and we have “the space cowboys”. The crew of our flying Firefly vessel, namely Serenity… including one of my favorite characters, Captain Mal Reynolds, ass-kicking 2nd in command Zoe, outrageous Wash the pilot, dense and gun lover Jayne, the sex-hungry mechanic Kaylee, love-daft Simon the doctor, crazy lunatic River mystery, and the sexy ‘companion’ Inara.

You’ll love the characters, you’ll love their bad moments, you’ll love their good moments. It’s not about the western, it’s not about the sci-fi, it’s about the people and their relations. I LUV it. I love the jokes, I love the mixing of Chinese and English… the gorram GORRAM! xD So you better WATCH it NOW, GORRAM it!

Just returned from watching The Incredible Hulk! Short review is that I enjoyed it a lot… maybe not as much as I did when watching Iron Man, even though I’m a fan of neither of them. LOL First things first, I did like Ang Lee’s version of The Hulk, and I thought Eric Bana was quite endearing on his Green Bana version. But I guess THAT’s not the point of Hulk, is it? Just got back from watching a screening of the newest Narnia flick, and let me tell you, I enjoyed watching The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, but this one is far more better than that. Sure, purist might be a little ticked off by switching lines from characters to characters, but I’m telling you that I enjoyed Caspian a whole lot more.

Just got back from a Press screen for Speed Racer (aka, Meteoro, in Spanish). What can I say? Words like FLASHBACKS, MOTION BLUR, and COLOR EXPLOSION come to mind. The Wachowski brothers have managed to Japanese-ized or should I say Asian-ized an English speaking film about Japan’s Mahha GoGoGo. I say Asian-ized because they managed to get Japan (Togo Igawa), Korea (Bi, Rain), and China (Yu Nan) to play family… LOL

But that’s a nitpick from me~~~ Let’s get to business, SPOILER ALERT! (maybe) Continue Reading…
