Archives For Products

Everything I know or get from product photography, I “got” as a kid watching Discovery Kids when they showed a clip of how the photoshoot for a sandwich – complete with pinned-lettuce, strategically placed ketchup, soaking-wet cheese, raw-yet-well-done-cold burger and silicon-sprayed buns – and of course~ the ice-cream cup which was filled with silicon squares, and a some other squishy-plastic-like product… so the ice-cream wouldn’t melt, you know?

I also did some “product shooting” in my school days, but really… wasn’t my thing.

But look at this! It’s almost so SO real, except the fries… but still.
O.O CRAZY!

Is product shooting going extinct?

Yu with braces!!!

Ok… moving on~~ Portugirl is in my hands!! Or actually, on my desk now, otherwise I wouldn’t be typing. HMV Japan is pretty good~ even though they delayed my order, they sent it 5 days ago and it’s here already! And considering I don’t get Free Shipping with YesAsia anymore… also noticed? Prices are higher in YesAsia now, for example Portugirl would have cost $20ish bucks more with them. Should you be doing YesAsia now?

Anyway! Here it is!!!

Proper fan-ish review, after the break~~~ For a ‘pro’ review, you’ll have to wait. LOL

I tend to buy stuff… depending on the stuff – I tend to buy more (dvds, cds) than regular people, or less (clothing, shoes) than regular people – in fact~~ I can probably buy a dvd/cd a week, but I tend to buy clothing once or twice every year or two. Truth be told, the last pair of sneakers I bought was last year  (expensive Fluevog boots in 2005, and 2 pairs of Converse in Shanghai in 2004) and that was because my 2001 Adidas are really REALLY used up… and even then, I prefer using that 2001 model than the new one. In my belief, the new Adidas I bought (which look pretty similar to the 2001 ones) don’t measure up to them. Sure, they are fresh… but won’t measure up to different weather conditions.

So this totally slipped my mind! I got the re-issue of Breathe!!! The Lily Chou Chou album from the Lily film by Shunji Iwai. The first time you see the film is so SO difficult~~ it’s such a hard theme, and characters you just want to slap around. I was a kid not long ago, and I felt so disconnected from THAT reality… yet, the film. You go back to it, and absorb it. The visuals, the music… it’s heartbreak.

Salyu, her voice~~ I fell in love with the soundtrack. The album is an experience all on its own… perhaps more than Salyu’s other albums. It’s the film, it’s because the album is strongly connected to that reality that it works so well… perhaps, a bit poetic. It’s THAT magical. At least to me, and to all the people that had bought the first issue of the album~~~ and maybe the reason WHY it was re-released.

I just want to know, from the people that bought the first run of copies… is it the same as the re-issue? Or has something changed? Hence, the re-issue credits in the album (including a re-design credit) ~ your thoughts?

Ao Akua arrived this afternoon! – Book is the cutest thing ever. LOL’ Tinier than I expected really~~

Juri Ueno - Ao Akua - Cover

Though, I don’t love this PB as much as I love A Piacere, mainly because I was a tad bit disappointed on the photographs. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few great shots, but a lot of snap shots too~~ What I love about this one? I like the concept, and the fact that there’s a companion DVD.

More after the break.

GuGu the Cat!

February 13, 2009 — 1 Comment

It arrived yesterday ^o^  !!!

I actually celebrated my b-day last night with a proper meal, and apparently my last YesAsia order. Belated Happy Bday to me!!! And happy 5 year blogging~~~ xD

My first EVER Japanese DVD – all because it listed ‘English subtitles’. I just couldn’t help myself.

Gu~ Gu~ Datte Neko de Aru, which was translated to GuGu the Cat, was not the movie I was expecting – in a good way. I think I had only seen a short clip of the film, perhaps the 30 second tv spot, where they open the box, GuGu shows up and they all go “kawaiiiiiiiiiiii”. So I thought the film was a comedy, but just like some other WOWOW projects I’ve seen, they border on the dramedy field (like Camouflage, 1 Million Yen Girl, and Don’t Laugh at my Romance).

– See, WOWOW people~~~ if you’d release those mentioned above with subs, I’d probably buy them. –

In GuGu, Asako Kojima (Kyoko Koizumi) is a manga artist who hasn’t had much time for life, other than taking care of her pet cat Ça Va and seldomly writing and drawing for her manga series alongside her team of assistants, including Naomi (Juri Ueno), a fervent fan since her teen years.

There’s a lot of fun moments… sometimes dealing with romantic relationships, and overall human relations… as well as some cat relationships xD – so if you like cats, you can probably enjoy this one.

Celebrate P!nk!

December 19, 2008 — 4 Comments

Yay! I got my Funhouse CD yesterday, and I thought “wow, I’ve got 5 P!nk albums.” I like to call myself (shut up, amy) Pink’s first Peruvian fan… which is not fact. Maybe… just MAYBE, there was someone who knew her and bought her album faster than me.

la-bailarina-de-izu-kawabata

Also known as Izu no Odoriko, or The Izu Dancer is the first published work (1926) to achieve popularity and acclaimed by Yasunari Kawabata. The book, very much like Kyoto, is about nothing at all… in fact, this is just a compilation of stories put together.

The first one, which gives the name to the book is one of the few interesting ones, as well as Diario de mi Decimosexto Año that tells some of the moments of Kawabata’s dying grandfather. Some other stories I liked were La Princesa del Palacio Dragón, El Camino de Monedas, and Una Oración en Lengua Materna.

Despite that, the just over 200-page book seemed to be a very long and slow book, compared to the reading time it took me to finish Kyoto. If you are a fan of Yasunari Kawabata’s writing about a time and a place and the people, you might enjoy this compilation of stories. If you’re looking for an introduction to him, or an epic tale about Japan… you might want to skip this one.

The Battle of the iPods~

October 31, 2008 — 2 Comments

Battle of the iPodsAmy’s got (finally!) her new iPod. Er… I can’t remember what generations iPods they are, but I upgraded from a 20Gb to a 120Gb – but to tell you the truth,  re-uploading 14Gb of music BLOWS. I spent all my night going through 3 DVDs full of music, and I’ve only got 5Gb on my new iPod.

Plus, PLUS~~~ What about my play count data!! +60-played songs are suddenly becoming 0-played. Not to mention some of the mp3s in the backup don’t have the proper album, track number, date, or even artists names~ SUCKS, I tell you. Isn’t there a way to just MOVE my old iPod’s info into the new one?? Does anyone know?

I tried to look for an answer, but everyone was talking about syncing two iPods on one computer, but what I want is to sync my new iPod to the old one. Please help! T_T

Photographic Wishes…

October 29, 2008 — Leave a comment

So despite having my economics like my math results when I spent math class doodling…

I want these… xD

Nikon D60

A Nikon D60, which is pretty old~~ but I think will work for me. It’s 10.2MP (which is up my MP from my D70s), but still not sure if it will be actually be better than my camera…

What I do want is a new memory card, because mine are pretty small (256Mb, by 3 cards, and one 128Mb) – Ha! I know… I should be pretty ashamed of myself. Not practical at all~~~ So now I’ve been eyeing the SanDisk 8 GB Extreme III:

8Gb Sandisk Extreme

And a Nikon Lens Pen Cleaning System~ I need to clean my lenses, and it also looks cute. LOL’
