Archives For performance

Asian Music Diva (mostly music anyway) has been slowly making a comeback into the music scene since her “retirement” in 2004… right after the release of her album To Love (Jiang Ai, which is out of stock everywhere… but I’m waiting for a re-issue, hopefully), after the release of Wong Kar Wai’s 2046, and her Faye Live Tour.

Wong dusted off her dreamy vocals for the main theme of Chow Yun Fat’s film Confucius, titled You Lan Cao, and her performance at the CCTV’s Spring Gala a few months ago. Now she’s dusting off her touring abilities with a series of 5 concert dates in Beijing.

Beginning October 29th, and continuing with 30th, and 31st, as well as November 5th and 6th. There are 6 different pricing tickets, however, all the seats priced at 300 Yuan (nearly $50 USD), 500 Yuan, and 2500 Yuan (nearly $400 USD) sold out in 10 minutes.

A press conference, that included only 300 members of the press that were invited, was held yesterday in which Wong appeared wearing a red dress (possibly for the passing of her vocal teacher Dai Sicong, who passed away recently). This short series of concerts in Beijing have until now generated over $2Million USD.

Dates in Shanghai are also scheduled.

Oh, I am so jealous. Though, that thing about arriving 45min late, it’s a huge… and I really mean a HUGE turn off for me, this just goes to show you that Faye Wong is truly a star, because no one was pissed off when she did finally arrived. I imagine that she’s truly mesmerizing in person… like meeting a fairy or something. Maybe she sparkles. LOL

Unlike Bjork, I feel Salyu is approachable, or it must be that politeness that plagues Japanese language as a whole… anyway, Salyu seems nicer than she appears with those crazy eyes. You know? When she’s singing in this performance of Glide, which by the way is one of those songs that don’t get performed enough for being part of the Lily Chou Chou repertoire, instead of Salyu’s. Because Salyu IS Lily.

Listening to her is one of those experiences, imagine it LIVE~ O.o

You just get to watch it as a YouTube stream, while I enjoy it on my 5.1 Surround sound dvd – and Bill… well, he gets to see Salyu live. I’ll stick to Bjork… unless Salyu decides to come here. Wink wink nudge nudge.

If this clip doesn’t get you to listen to other Salyu songs, I dunno what will.

Guilty Pleasure Songs

July 7, 2010 — 1 Comment

Extra! Extra! According to this Yahoo Music News~

Lady Gaga sings You Belong With Me at the top of her lungs. Which I think it’s super funny… and admittedly, kinda cute… in a “Wow, I didn’t expect this” kind of way.

So the women at AfterEllen decided to tell the whole wide world what were their guilty pleasure songs… or sometimes, not really such guilty, but the songs they always sang at the top of their lungs. First, let me say WHAT?

I understand Hanson’s Mmmbop 1997 being your guilty pleasure, considering I can’t really listen to Middle of Nowhere the same way after so many years. It’s the high-pitched voices, but the songs were actually kind of good. I mean, have you seen the Hanson guys lately? They’re actually pretty good.

Hmm… could this be Best Old School music video?

I really like the high contrast on this one though.

Just saw a glimpse of these on the tv, so I had to look it up.

Boy is pretty good. Let’s hope he keeps his voice, because… you know, he’s like 12? Plenty of time for changing voice, smoking, drugs and booze – those can mess up one’s pipes.

If he’s smart, he’ll make it out of his teens.

And he’s totally better than Bieber, the Jonas bros, or Miley for that matter.

Some non-Disney record company… scoop him up already!

Hyori-unnie, I really like you as a person, but I’d trade those high heels you got on for some comfy sport shoes and a rocking choreography. I really like when you start the car-thing, but really… those high heels don’t do anyone any justice on the dance floor.

Having said that, the net is BUZZING because you appear to be packing-a-six with you.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t see the six-pack even on HD, so if you wanna see the six-pack Hyori-unnie is showing off, you’re gonna have to head over to All KPop. If you want my “professional” observation, those abs are make-up. She’s got them, don’t worry… but those six she’s showing off on that screencap are too cinematically perfect. Yes, she’s got a hot body. Yes, she can totally kick ass on any Pop princess around the world.

Do I think you can have a Six-Pack-Off against Pink?

Maybe… we are in need of a six-pack assessment~~~ xD
After all, Pink has a MEAN six-pack.

Can I just say Abracadabra is super hot?

I listened to all of Brown Eyed Girls discography, minus singles… only albums, and maybe I did some minialbums. Can’t really recall, it’s been too much music lately. Anyway, from all the girl groups I’ve listened to lately… I liked them the best… dig their voices, and the raps somehow remind me of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez…

Man, she was the shitz~~

TLC killed it in the VMAs 1999. Man, those were the years…

RIP, Left Eye, RIP.

It only took 2 days! TWO days for my order to arrive~~~

It took Salyu 3 years to release her 3rd studio album, but it’s not like we were deprived of new music. In fact, Maiden Voyage contains many of the singles that Salyu had release these past years [6, if I count correctly]. You could say this could be a compilation of sorts, but it surprisingly works nicely as an album.

The album art gives you the visuals of flying… almost in a dream-like fashion — I mean, Salyu IS floating on a mattress and/or pillows, right? These visuals work really well with the overall themes and overall energy of the songs (yes, I actually grabbed the song book and followed the bouncing ball).

It also looks like Salyu is experimenting with her own music by finally stepping onto the writers chair, and even working on the music herself. Of course, she’s not doing it alone but with the help of Takeshi Kobayashi who has been there since the days of Lily Chou Chou. The collaborations between Kobayashi and Salyu are what we have come to get used to as far as Salyu’s sound is.

Interestingly enough, Salyu’s song (written and composed as least with the help of Tatsuya Kokufu) L.A.F.S (which stands for Love at First Sight) reminded me a little bit of what Salyu used to sound as Lily. Somewhat off-beat melodies, with really simple lyrics, but really moody.

Overall, the album really flows well and feels like a whole, except maybe for the oddball BIRTHDAY, which threw me off… in a really good way. The song, written by Salyu and composed again by Kokufu, sounded like Shiina Ringo and Bjork had a lovechild, if that were EVER possible.

I’ve taken to Salyu’s music because it’s soothing, as well as quite slow and easier to follow with a songbook. Salyu is really quite good to practice your reading and pronunciation. However on BIRTHDAY, she slurs her words and sounds completely different. I’m looking forward to more of that sound in the future. Hopefully.

As for the concert DVD. Well, it’s totally worth the price you pay for this limited edition with DVD ~

Screencap galore after the break~
