Archives For jake gyllenhaal

Couldn’t resist to use this image as the main film here xD

Can’t help myself, and I haven’t even seen The Tourist. Look, I love movie stars… I’m sure I’m going to go “oh, it isn’t THAT bad” but I can even say when things should be awarded or not. xD But then again… ratings~

I’m just glad Timberlake wasn’t nominated in anything.

And since we’re speaking about out of their league: Lea Michelle for Glee is completely out of her league in her category against Toni Collette, Edie Falco, Tina Fey and Laura Linney. Look, I love Glee – don’t really watch 30 Rock, didn’t warm up to Laura Linney in The Big C, don’t like Edie Falco’s Nurse Jackie character, didn’t completely loved Season 2 of United States of Tara – but Lea Michelle is out of her league. xD

Toni Collette FTW!

Because the list is oh so long, just posting film…

I’m never really good with Satellite Awards, I always forget them. But then again, there’s so many Satellite nominees per category… it seems a bit excessive. It’s like chucking all the best performances of the year, instead of choosing five spots even if three good performances will be left out.

And when there’s not enough good performances… they just fill the category up!

Inception is leading this one ;P

You’ve named them… some of you voted multiple times, I know. And some of you only voted for one actress instead of one actor and one actress. But the votes are in. And winning, with a boost from the running of Inception on theaters, with 23% of the votes is none other than dear Joseph Gordon Levitt. Despite leading the poll at the beginning, Natalie Portman ended up with 19% of the votes with a late boost from the screenings from Black Swan… but I guess the people that saw Black Swan don’t visit the site, thus that didn’t translate into votes.

Directed by Edward Zwick — The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond — Jakey G and Anne look. so. hot. It seems like they have great chemistry, or at least it’s showcased more than their bits on Brokeback Mountain ;P

Apparently the film is receiving positive buzz. I don’t think it’s Oscar bait, but maybe a nomination for Screenplay, or Globe nods for Jake and Anne.

Early YAM 010!

MY85 made me realize that tomorrow is the 13th, so I decided to release this today.

Thanks to Julz, who’s always a diligent writer.
and MY85… and well, Maca who keeps tracks of her films.

I just want you to head over here.

Wow, we’re approaching our Top3 Actors and Top3 Actresses on our list of the 20 to Watch Until They’re 35, and considering Prince of Persia has just opened to worldwide audiences this weekend, I’d figure there’s no better time to name Jake Gyllenhaal as #3.

Born in Los Angeles, California on December 19th 1980, this 29-year-old actor shot to fame playing Jack Twist on Ang Lee’s award-winning Brokeback Mountain, opposite Heath Ledger, and fellows the 20 to Watch Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway, earning himself nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild, and several critic circles, as well as a win at the BAFTAs. He is also known for playing Donnie Darko on the cult hit by the same name, and can be currently seen on screens playing Prince Dastan on the live-action adaptation of the Prince of Persia video game called Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Gyllenhaal comes from a talented family, with his father director Stephen Gyllenhaal, his mother Oscar-nominated screenwriter Naomi Foner, and older sister Oscar-nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal… so you can say he had no other choice than to be an actor… or better yet a “movie star”.

He started acting in the early 90s with small roles, and by the late 90s he already landed the lead on October Sky with Chris Cooper and Laura Dern, which was received well as a family film, and earned Gyllenhaal nominations for Breakthrough Performer. However, he followed that up with films like the off-beat Bubble Boy, and Lovely & Amazing with Emily Mortimer and Catherine Keener… but it wasn’t until the independent film Donnie Darko saw the light of day early 2002, and many years later became a cult hit on DVD that that he started to get noticed.

He starred in a series of rather small films alongside Jennifer Aniston, Zooey Deschanel, Susan Sarandon, Dustin Hoffman, and Holly Hunter. Finally, in 2004, Gyllenhaal would get the chance to work on his first big blockbuster at the helm of  Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 2012) on The Day After Tomorrow alongside Dennis Quaid, Sela Ward, and Ian Holm. It was during that summer that he began working on Brokeback Mountain, a role that would change his life forever.

Suddenly, Gyllenhaal was an Academy Award nominee, and continued his work as a “proper” actor with roles on a more broad variety of films from Proof with Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins, and Jarhead by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) with Peter Sarsgaard (who ended up marrying his sister Maggie), and Jamie Foxx, as well as Zodiac by David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en) with Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Brian Cox, and Chloë Sevigny, and Rendition by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi) with Reese Witherspoon in 2007.

By that time, Gyllenhaal decided to take a break from acting, until 2009 when the film Brothers, based from the Danish film of the same name, and directed by Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, In America) opposite Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire. This year, he’s returned to the blockbuster genre with his very own possible franchise by playing Prince Dastan in Disney’s adaptation of Prince of Persia.

What’s coming up for him? How about Nailed a wacky comedy by David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees, which is also pretty wacky), as well as Love and Other Drugs by Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond) with Anne Hathway, Judy Greer, Hank Azaria and Oliver Platt, and Source Code by Duncan Jones (Moon) with Vera Farmiga.

Yeah, those three (plus a few other rumored projects) and we’re happy with the next five years. Plus, Gyllenhaal has all the makings of a true movie star. We can’t even help smiling when he’s interviewed.

There, I said it.

Look, I love Jakey G. but Prince of Persia was a joke. This is coming from someone who isn’t even a hardcore fan of the video game. Yeah, I used to play it on my cousin’s computer back in DOS system. LOL

Below the break, possible spoilers~ you’ve been warned.

Sands of Time introduces Dastan as a kid living in the streets saving another street kid from being punished by the King (Sharaman) ‘s men… so of course, the King sees something special in him and takes him home. Flash forward years, and Dastan — now a hot-looking Prince — and his brothers are about to take on a city that is supposed to be dealing weapons to the Persian’s enemies [hint: weapons of mass destruction].

In their looting, Dastan gets a dagger… THE Dagger (with capital D), which the princess of the city, Tamina, was trying to protect. After the murder of his father the King, Dastan is accused of being the perpetrator, and flees the city with Tamina as sort of hostage and help… but of course, Dastan didn’t do it! So he must clear his name, with the help of the Dagger, which uses some magical sand to turn back time.

Unlike the poster (and set of posters), Sands of Time looks very orange. It actually starts with a full shot of a sunrise — or was it a sunset set backwards? — anyway, it was all very reminiscing of Aladdin, so I began singing Arabian Nights in my head… or maybe I did a bit out loud. The caption, set in Papyrus, said something like two people linked together in time — I thought they might have been talking about KidDastan and the other street kid, but seeing as the other kid was left behind when Dastan was adopted… alas, it’s probably Dastan and the Princess whose city he’s about to ransack.

I know all about the gays

And they recently released their Hot 100 [plus Top 10 Men of Color, Top 10 over 50, Top 10 Out Gay Men]. So let’s talk about MEN~~~ You know gay men love them guys buffed, most of the times.

So can I just say… some of them are just questionable? xD

Let’s start with Eddie Cibrian [who cheated on his wife and is now dating Leann Rimes, who “se me cayo”], then Milo Ventimiglia [whom after dating Panettiere seems like a total creep], Robert Pattison [whose stinky rumors are now forever plastered in my memories whenever I hear his name], Gerard Butler [who after starring on Dear Frankie and quivering, turned into total skeeze], Kellan Lutz [WHO? Oh yeah, Twilight], Ryan Phillippe [come on… really? multiple cheating is a multiple turn-off], Channing Tatum [enough with the meat already…], Zac Efron [Gosh… I feel I’m hairier than him… and we’re kinda the same age], Taylor Lautner [Okay, that’s just creepy… but then again MOMS dream about him, so I guess you guys are less creepy.], Ryan Reynolds [seriously guys… where is the substance…], and finally David Boreanaz whom I totally loved until recently. Man is a total let-down.

Now that I’ve got my disagreements, can I just say I feel really REALLY proud of Chris Colfer? He made the list, and I feel so giddy for him!

Other notable appearances? Tom Ford, Daniel Craig, Robert Downey Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), James McAvoy, Lee Pace, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taye Diggs, ever on the list even if there’s no movies Johnny Depp, another who’s ever there Brad Pitt, newest addition hottie Mark Salling (Glee)~~~
