  • Rie Miyazawa and Asami Mizukawa Join NHK’s Gou

Thanks Julz for the heads up~

Ueno plays the role of Gou (also known as Oeyo), the third daughter of the 16th century daimyo Azai Nagamasa (who married Oda Nobunaga’s sister Oichi-no-kata). Gou and her two older sisters are famous historical figures. The eldest, Yodo (also known as Chacha), will be played by Miyazawa, while the second sister, Hatsu, will be played by Mizukawa.

    Tokyograph~

    Adding from the announcement~~~
strong females + Atsu-hime writer, Juri Ueno, Rie Miyazawa + Asami Mizukawa?

    Only getting better…

  • OK GO – This Too Shall Pass

OK Go does Pythagora Switch (PITAGORA SUICCHI) on steroids… and other enhancing performing substances. Released on March 1st this year… single from the album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, the video was directed by James Frost.

But seriously, guys. This isn’t about the music, it’s all about the video. Possibly our contender for Breakthrough video of 2010~~~ I wonder if there will be any more awesome videos???

  • Juri Ueno on 2011 NHK’s Taiga Drama

Titled “Gou ~Hime-tachi no Sengoku~” (姫たちの戦国) meaning “princesses’ belligerent country” with an original script by Atsuhime screenwriter Kumiko Tabuchi.

Gou will be the 50th Taiga drama airing on NHK in 2011 [apparently linked to this rumor], centering on the women of the Sengoku period (the years of the civil wars, 1467–1573). Daughters of Azai Nagamasa and Oichi (sister of Oda Nobunaga) – the first, Yodo Dono who became the second wife of lord Toyomi Hideyoshi. The second, Ohatsu who married lord Kyougoku Takatsugu, and the youngest Gou (aka. Oeyo, played by Ueno), who ended up marrying shogun Hidetada Tokugawa.

Atsu-hime writer+ strong female characters + Juri Ueno?
OMG, I’m in. Thanks, Julz for the email.

  • Yu Aoi on NHK’s Taiga Drama Ryoma den!

NHK will begin airing their new Taiga (historical) drama on January 3rd 2010, titled Ryoman den (龍馬伝), and Yu has been announced as a cast member.

NHK’s 49h taiga drama centers around Ryoma Sakamoto (January 3, 1836 – December 10, 1867) a leader of the movement to overthrow the feudal regime of Tokugawa shogunate. Ryoma Sakmoto is thought to have been a visionary who helped spur Japan to modernization.

Yu Aoi will be playing Omoto, and we don’t know anything else. So those rumors weren’t so far off~~~ LOL We have no idea how long she will play Omoto… maybe 4 episodes? When? If you can read Jap, please let me know.

Best announcement for Xmas ever~ xD

I just need to wait for subs hahaha

  • Yu Aoi and the Rest of 2009~~~

It’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of the year… only 3 proper months left!

Anyway! I was checking YesAsia stuffs and turns out Ikechan to Boku will be released this coming December 4th… sadly, no English subtitles listed. TuT So I’d figure we’d list what’s left of upcoming Yu related stuff (without counting magazine and CMs appearances because frankly those are hard to keep track of).

  • Yu Aoi’s Gakuya on NHK

Crap! And it’s not on NHK World Premium…
    whatever~~~

If you haven’t missed my past Yu posts, you’ll know that she worked on a play called Gakuya this past May and June. Well, Yu’s site was updated saying that Gakuya will be broadcast on NHK next month.

    October 9th, 2009 at 10.30pm

    get more Japanese info here.

There’s also some text saying that there will be some more info on Yu’s new 2010 Calendar, which looks kinda Hansel-y and Gretel-y… ja? Do you wanna know my opinion? Yu’s Message page has only been updated twice this year. Once with that cryptic message from Venezuela [part1][part2], and the other announcing Portugirl. Before those posts? There was a 2009 Calendar post. Am I complaining? Yes, I am. LOL

But damn, I can’t ever stay too mad.

They’ve also posted photos off-shoots from the So-En shoot.

  • Yu Aoi Short Takes~

    I know, I know… I’m being lazy.

By the way, by the time of posting this, I’m probably away taking photos at a concert. This is a scheduled post because I wanted Maggie Cheung as the first post for a little longer… xD

I usually post one thing per post, but there’s too much Yu to post –
all via aoinohoho’s Yu-dedicated JP blog.
    dozou~~~

    First!

Rumors that NHK’s future 2011 (I know, I know… so far ahead) Taiga drama (a la Yoshitsune, Atsuhime) would be centered around three sisters… The Three Asai Sisters (?). They throw in some names like Masami Nagasawa and Aya Ueto, but seem positively (?) more thrilled to throw in Yu’s name xD – though you know, it IS a Google Translate.

Me on the other hand… I loved Atsuhime… a strong female who moved the pieces in this game of life. That may have had to do with the high ratings the show got alongside the writing, and production values. So the prospect of Yu on a Taiga drama thrills me. For one thing, I will be able to watch her once a week on my TV for a year. LOL – but then, that will mean a decrease on films… *eek!*

    Second!

Apparently (this is old old news), FRaU Magazine had a list Yu’s 10 Best Films~
    Some interesting choices there!

3 films in English made it to her list…

    • White Oleander (2002)
    • 2:37 (2006) [starring fellow Teresa Palmer of December Boys, Daniel Radcliffe fame]
    • Almost Famous (2000)

A very international one… actually, a two-part film project titled Ten Minutes Older, divided into The Trumpet and The Cello. (2002)

And the rest are Asian… though I’ve only heard of Sway (with fellow Joe Odagiri), which I wanna watch.

    and third!

aoinohoho uploaded this 9min video of… Yu talking about a book? Book reading?

    [iframe src=”https://www.tudou.com/v/GIK0Jvglz5w/v.swf” width=”480″ height=”400″]

Oh yeah, and did I mention my mom loves Yu? She told me that tonight… again. LOL

  • Yu’s “My Favorite Book, Japan’s 100 Favorite Books”

Months ago I blogged this NHK 10 min. segment on Yu’s favorite book. Tabi o Suru ki? – Google translates it as “Tree Travel”? – Well, YouTube user kaurismaki uploaded the 10min. not long ago. It would be AWESOME to get this subbed =D even though you don’t see much of Yu, but the segment seems to have a good feeling. Very serious.

Once again, a request to get this translated! It would be awesome to hard-sub this. ^^

  • NHK’s Songs of our Generation – Shiina Ringo

Did you know? Because I didn’t…

I caught the repeat of Part 1 yesterday night – actually, I almost lost it (so you can imagine how my friend Julz felt when she actually saw Yossy live by chance) – ANYHOO~

    Back on topic~

NHK (World Premium) is airing Part 2 this coming week:
    Wed. July 1st @ 9am-9.29am (Japan Standard Time. -14hrs)
    Fri. Jul 3rd @ 9.30pm-9.59pm (JST -14hrs)

  • Monkey Majik!

Just saw them on J-Melo! My first thought… what are these two white guys doing on NHK? I was pretty impressed, actually. They are fun to listen to… almost like having fun while listening to the Barenaked Ladies, only better. So I did a quick search, and found a list…

Monkey Majik is a group of two Canadians and two Japanese dudes singing in Japan-glish xD
give it a listen~~~ check out the song Fly, and their song Aishiteru (I Love You)
actually… both those videos are pretty good. I liked Aishiteru quite a bit~
