Archives For Television

So coming month… what to watch?? Forgive if times are funky, blame the cable mag for that…

Yu Aoi will be on cable this month!!! With a showing of Hana & Alice, as well as Hula Girls!!!

Jinseitte Uso Mitai, or Life is like a Lie, is the first 3-episode-chapter of the Yu Aoi WOWOW drama Camouflage (previously known as Aoi Yu x 4 Lies) which aired at the beginning of the year, and it’s already on DVD. Finally saw! WEEEE – I waited… what, 6 months??? And still haven’t finished ‘coz no one is translating, and my translator bailed on me… dunno where he is.

So I re-watched the three episodes last night, though the 3rd episode only had subs in the story and not on the introductions (in which the director and writer explain a bit), and the ending (where the photographer shows and explains the photos taken), so kinda missed some of the episode.

Anyway…

When I watched Memories of Matsuko, there was one scene when Matsuko’s life was already going to the gutters, she was lying on the garbage bags, and she was watching TV. I immediately recognized the song as an Okaasan to Issho song… today I decided to look for it, and found it!

Okaasan to Issho 1999 song, at first I thought it was a Takoyaki Mambo song, but I was lucky enough to find it on a website listing all the songs. Video and Romaji after the break!

Let’s try some Sling.com embedding…

As some of you know, The L Word is making its final showing this coming January (woo! exciting!) – Promo looks good, as in it looks pretty. Not sure about the “killer’s look” – I wonder… will they give me Sholly? I saw the poster, and Shane was licking Jenny… are they trying to throw me an anvil? ARGH, I hate anvils… they bring bad memories to my shipping heart.

Because I didn’t. I don’t watch awards for music (anymore) other than Grammy, and MTV… and I am doubtful I consider MTV any worth now. However, I read enough headlines on the past American Music Awards to make me curious… so did you watch? I saw 6 clips of the performances…

  • Christina Aguilera
  • Taylor Swift
  • New Kids on the Block
  • Jonas Brothers
  • Sarah McLachlan & Pink
  • Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah & Kathleen Battle

I do like Christina Aguilera, in fact, I love Back to Basics as an album. I don’t think her “greatest” hits was either great (like the writer for Entertainment Weekly) or sucked (like Lainey said) – It was neither here nor there… though the performance of each song was ok, the medley was disaster. O.o

Another medley disaster was New Kids on the Block. LOL – and I do sing along to Steps by Steps or the Right Stuff, so I’m not a hater. I like Jordan Knight solo stuff, as well as Joey McIntyre… but new NKotB smells like middle age crisis. They are still trying to sell it to teens, while telling us NKotB has matured. Doesn’t reflect on the music…

LOL, don’t even get me started on the Jonas Brothers. This is the second live performance I see of them and I’m still unimpressed.

Sarah McLachlan and Pink was good, as was Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and Kathleen Battle, though I felt that Kathleen Battle didn’t mix well with the whole feel and number, even if she has a voice.

Taylor Swift, however, I was actually kind of impressed. I haven’t had the chance to hear or review Taylor’s sophmore album, just her debut which I thought was kind of decent. Then I heard her speak in an interview and lost the little respect I could get from hearing her music, but this is the first time I see her performing… I was sort of reminded of Faith Hill. *blasphemy!!* xD

White Horse is a pop country-ish ballad that faintly reminded me of Faith Hill’s Fireflies… talking about fairytales and real life, I still need to give a listen to both songs back to back to really know what I’m talking about, but Swift reminded me of Faith Hill in that AMA performance. OJO! Just faintly reminds me… Faith Hill has a voice so powerful… Swift’s voice still needs maturing, she sounds more like a chill studio Avril Lavigne at the moment, but if she goes the right way, I can imagine her in 15 years with a really powerful voice… and better stage presence… you gotta admit she looked a little bit nervous standing there…

… or at least scarce.

First, with Maca’s announcement that Twilight earned a little over $70M this past weekend… which isn’t really surprising considering the amount of promotion they did trying to shove it down my throat. Ugh.

If I want smut, I’ll head over to read smutty fanfiction on HP characters, thankyouverymuch.

If I want a broody dark vampire to save my life, I’ll love Angel forever and always. If I wanna rough it up with a bleached rockish vamp with a ‘tude, I’ll pick Spike. If I wanna watch/read an interesting vampire story, I’ll watch/read Let the Right One In (Låt den Rätte Komma in)… and please, NO REMAKES.

THEN! It gets WORSE. UGH! I just read that Pushing Daisies is over. EF it ABC – what the heck, they keep on stretching pretty stupid uninteresting Grey’s Anatomy’s storylines… go wacky with Lost, which I never enjoyed, and you kill Pushing Daisies. WTF! Shut your Pie Hole ABC… >,<x

Ok… YouTube sucks. The video I was looking for says “deleleted by user” – it is most likely YouTube told the user to remove the video. Though, there is a slight possibility that the user removed it himself… less likely, but still possible~

Anyway, in the case anyone was wondering. It was a 3-part-video of Yu Aoi being followed around for some time (a month maybe?), and they showed two photos of when Yu Aoi was little (one in a tutu, and the other sitting in a classroom), they also showed her in a video store (renting or buying?) looking for dvds, and they showed a whole bit on the making of Hula Girls… even showing the part when Yu re-shot her solo dancing sequence. Other bits of footage showed Yu studying, something about driving, and something related to the death of her grandmother (or another relative?), which made her a bit emotional on camera.

You have any ideas on what show it is? and the link??? Please, leave a message. For the time being, I will leave you with this interview from the NHK talk show, Top Runner from when Yu was 19 years old (2004?) after the break.

I am just about to watch episode 8, but I just had to mention Aoi Miyazaki on episode 1. You all must see her on this scene at school (for boys), pretending to be a boy… and I mean, can you believe? Aoi Miyazaki and Eita playing kiddos? Bizarre concept idea… and it doesn’t always work, but there ARE cases. You’d know that if you ever saw El Chavo del 8.

Atsu-Hime - Aoi Miyazaki

Aoi Miyazaki as Okatsu (later known as Atsu-Hime) getting Naogoro (Eita) out of a lecture by her father.

Grownups playing little kids, you can see the are grownups, but their acting totally works. This is the case…
