  • Shirley Holmes became a gamer!

    After a few weeks since my last forum comments on IMDb, which I only visit for rating films and shows and almost never hang out at the boards any longer, I ended up looking at my comment history and found a post on the Shirley Holmes board…

    Of course I ended up searching for “shirley holmes” on YouTube… lo and behold!

    Meredith Henderson is living in L.A. and is a gamer~~~ I did not expect that, ever. She’s a full-on gaming dork too, getting excited over Comic Con and all. I didn’t understand half the things she talked about because I don’t game, but loads of my friends do.

    I also ended up finding a copy of Espanol Latino Shirley Holmes! El Caso de la Bruja Wannabe with — of course — Shelley Duvall of The Shining. xD Espanol Latino dubs are hard to come by in full episodes, even though I have the first seasons of Shirley Holmes on tape with that dub. I wish I could come by the last season.

    I have been waiting patiently for a number of years for a DVD release of that show.

    Also buy right away… or you’ll end up with over-priced copies of them like Are You Afraid of the Dark xD which are around $100-$300 dollars per season (7 in total). But… if you have no issues in paying around $2k for a show on DVD, be my guest… LOL

  • Yu Aoi for Kiyoshi Kurosawa x Minato Kanae’s Shokuzai

    I hope everyone is as excited as I am.

    First… of course, I love Yu-chan. It seems like when my fandom is faltering, she throws a bone at me. LOL

    Then… it’s a Minato Kanae revenge story. Kokuhaku wasn’t mind-blowingly amazing but it was pretty good, so I can’t complain from a revenge story about a woman who’s lost her kid and tries to get her now-grown friends to remember and seek atonement.

    There’s also Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who directed Tokyo Sonata — which, you know… I wasn’t really as blown as everyone seemed to be with him. But it’s always exciting to see new people coming together to make projects. Especially since WOWOW is involved. I tend to like their off-beat dramas that get a lot of indie J-film flare.

    Kyoko Koizumi — who has actually worked with Yu-chan in the play Gakuya — stars as the mom, and the four friends of her dead child are Yu Aoi, Chizuru Ikewaki (Josee, the Tiger and the Fish), Eiko Koike (Paco and the Magical Picture Book, Wool 100%) and freaking Sakura Ando (Love Exposure, 1).

    The four women are being played by Aoi, Koike, Ando, and Ikewaki. 15 years earlier, when they were elementary school students, they had been playing with Emiri up until just before her death. They were the first to discover her body, and although they saw the culprit’s face, they were unable to remember it well enough to identify the person. As a result, Emiri’s mother (Koizumi) demanded that they find the killer, or else find a way to atone for themselves to her satisfaction. Now grown up, those women find her words coming back to haunt them as tragedy begins to befall them.

    Lasting only five episodes, the drama starts on January 8th, 2012.

  • OAOA with Mayday!

    Since I posted the OAOA MV on YAM Magazine, I haven’t been able to stop singing along to the song, which at first was stupid. I mean, REALLY — the song is called OAOA. If you speak Spanish, it just reminds you of the Teletubbies. Lucky that the song is actually called O.A.O.A, but still! I just couldn’t get passed that name… then I finally listen to it, and it has been non-stop butchering Mandarin while saying OAOA.

    Saying OAOA is as fun as singing Linda, Linda!!! Linda, Linda, Lindaaaaa~ xD

    What’s even more impressive about Mayday 3DNA is that it’s also going to be a movie, and not just a concert movie but a movie-movie, with a plot and all. Makes me want to see it even more.

  • My 13 Most Iconic Movie Images

    Nick, over at Anomalous Material, did his list of 13 Iconic Movie Images (for him). I thought I would share mine here since things have been a little on the weak side lately.

    I dunno exactly why 13, but… it suits me fine. It gave me room to include things I wouldn’t have included in the first place. I’m surprised I cut so many from my Top10 Fave Films, but I did manage to squeeze half of them in. LOL I also set myself two rules… no black and whites, or animated films. ;O

    So here we go~~~

  • What was that VMA Tribute to Britney?

    I feel terribly sad that this had to happen this way~

    It’s not like I sat through the VMA this year (the very first year that I chose not to, without counting the years I had no access to MTV), but having Jersey Shore introducing me nominees was too much for me to take… in the end, I tuned out and went for dinner.

    When I found out that MTV was going to do a Britney Spears tribute, I thought to myself “why?” because, well — for starters, Britney’s not dead. Plus, Britney’s been on the music stage for barely 10 years… and out of those ten years, only five had been actually unquestionably successful.

    So it pained me to have to see Britney accepting this because it means it’s just never gonna happen again. No, people. Do not expect Britney ever to recover her former glory, because it ain’t going to happen. But what’s worse is Britney (and her camp) accepting this poorly put together tribute… but who do we blame?

    It’s not like the music industry has being able to produce anyone to follow Britney’s footsteps — failing to produce someone who can at least lipsync and kickass dance like Britney used to be able to. So what does MTV do? Get no-name little girls to dance to a speed-up Britney mashup. Each of her tracks gets reduced to a 15sec. blurb in which the girls duplicate Britney’s ‘famous’ moves — it’s just chaos.

    And what does MTV do? They make Britney introduce Beyonce.

    That just… doesn’t make sense at all.

    Britney, you used to deserve so much better. Specially from MTV.

  • Yu Aoi for Rurouni Kenshin Live-Action

    Is any of you Yu-chan fans a fan of Rurouni Kenshin?

    I gotta admit that I’ve never read the manga — but I hardly read any manga or comic, so… — and I seldom watched the anime series they just to show regularly on Cartoon Network. But I did watch (and own) that OVA movie… Samuari X: Truth and Betrayal. I kinda loved it.

    But I don’t know much about the Rurouni Kenshin universe, so I can’t tell you much.

    Yu Aoi has been confirmed as Takani Megumi, which according to Wikipedia:

    Megumi is the youngest daughter of Takani Ryūsei, a well-known doctor in Aizu which was an important province supporting the Tokugawa Shogunate. During the Boshin Wars, Megumi’s father died and the rest of her family went missing, leaving her as the sole survivor.

    […]

    Watsuki’s describes his standalone Megumi as bearing a “lighter quality” as she had a small role in that story. In the final series Watsuki decided to give her an “earthy quality” so she could make an impression on the reader.

    The description on Wikipedia makes it sound like an interesting role involving Megumi knowing Western and Eastern medicine… and the tragic disappearance of her family, as well as an opium storyline. But alas, I doubt they will deal with that in the film, considering she’s not a main character xD

    Yu-chan is joined by Munetaka Aoki, who was on Nihonjin Shiranai no Nihongo and also shared credits with Yu-chan on NHK’s Taiga drama last year. Both actors will be back together with their Ryomaden director, Keishi Otomo.

  • Yu Aoi for Tamatama Movie

    I don’t… even know how she does it.

    Or in general. How does Japan do it to not let anyone outside the production know that they’re making any type of movie? Because when they want you to, they make sure you know.

    How is it possible that we find out Yu Aoi was shooting a movie in location in Ireland a little over a month before the movie is set to open? Yes, Yu Aoi’s new movie is called Tamatama (translated to “by chance”) and is set to open on October 15th.

    Little details are known from this Tokyograph report:

    The film’s main concept is “tamatama,” which means “by chance.” Aoi plays a young woman who travels to Ireland, and the fantasy story depicts her life there as she encounters different people and places, resulting in occasional “miracles.”

    Except for the miracle part, it sounds a lot like One Million Yen Girl… sans the Bitter-bug. xD

    The film marks the debut for CM and MV director Komatsu Mayumi (小松真弓).

  • Remember when Christina Aguilera was Back to Basics?

    I finally bought the 2-disc Back to Basics concert DVD. I’ve become cheap because I buy other expensive stuff from Asia — I just spent $30 for a Bluray concert of Eason Chan because Exaggerate looked so freaking awesome. But I couldn’t spend more than 10$ for Back to Basics, even though I really liked the album.

    I had… a like/don’t care relationship with Christina Aguilera since her debut alongside Britney — I was always a Britney fan because she had ‘something’ which we can call ‘it’ and I always felt Christina didn’t have that thing that make you want to root for her… but I was often blown away with her voice anyway. I knew the few steps to Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants and Come on Over… almost to heart. I also dug that she had spent some time singing in Spanish with some good quality ballads and that infectious Falsas Esperanzas. She was the prettiest during those days — do you remember how amazing she looked in the MV for Pero me Acuerdo de Ti [MV]?

    Her skin complexion then, non-sun-tanned and platinum blond, made a perfect match with the pinks which were highlights among all those grays.

    Then she went all Dirrty. I did have an issue with her Dirrty days, even though Beautiful and Fighter are a couple of her strongest songs and I appreciate the change to more grundgy or gothy looks, but her literally dirty look and the sexual nature of the concept just reminds me of Tara Reid in her Wild On days. It’s just really disgusting. In the end, I never bought that album and I sorta forgot about Aguilera (or Britney). In fact, during that transition, I was becoming a Pink fan — you can tell from this post.

    I have a point, bare with me.

    Alongisde my Back to Basics concert DVD, I bought the Pink: Live from Wembley Arena — which would be her I’m Not Dead tour, and I watched them back to back.

    It struck me that I could get a better sense of Christina watching the concert than I did with Pink. As I sat watching the second DVD, I thought to myself “wow, Back to Basics has a more cohesive theme than Pink’s concert.” To someone that considers herself a Pink fan, I felt a renew respect for Aguilera then.

  • Power Rangers in Space: The Bad Character Complex

    I recently was watching the Latino dubbing of Bones, when I heard Bones’ espanol latino speaking and racking my brain as to where I had heard her voice, until it hit me — Cordelia Chase (from Buffy) was speaking Bones dialog. I was in shocked at the personality clash of that as my brain turned to mush from all that pop culture.

    I ended up in Doblaje Wiki, in which I discovered Clemen Larumbe was doing the voice. It’s an amazing thing Latino dubbing.. of course, it used to be better because dubbing took longer before, and now you’re on a tight schedule as to not keep fans waiting. In my search of Latino dubbing, I found out that Laura Torres (who voiced KidGoku on Dragon Ball, Tommy Pickle on Rugrats, Daria, Gabrielle on Xena, Catherine on CSI) had also voiced Kat (the 2nd Pink Ranger)… which made me look for other Power Rangers related news.

    Then it hit me even harder: Amy Jo Johnson (the original Pink Ranger — from the American version) is turning forty-freaking-one this year. I was downright depressed at how old I am.

    I’m not so ashamed to say that I watched Power Rangers until Zordon was gone — because I’m a loyal fan, I even watched a few of the eps after that. But to me, Power Rangers was truly ended when Zordon’s capsule was destroyed… which takes me back all the way to Power Rangers in Space.
