The BiBi Discography

January 3, 2011 — 11 Comments

I told you BiBi was going to be my first post of 2011! xD

It’s common knowledge I don’t buy singles… or usually “best of” compilations — unless it’s an artist with too many albums that I don’t want to “catch up” on with.

Julz also knows I don’t do mini-albums.

But I do own all of BiBi’s albums ;P I have named myself her biggest fan living the farthest away. LOL Unless BiBi has a fan living in the Patagonia, I’m taking the title, thankyouverymuch.

Bibi’s latest albums are far from perfect. Really respect that she’s trying to expand her style, her vocal range, as well as her image. Though it sometimes feels like her label doesn’t know what to do with her, like they need to change her style (from Time to i.fish.light.mirror) to sell well in Taiwan and Hong Kong – where she probably did sell well after the change.

I sat today listening to her first album (not counting her EP), Who Touched My Violin String?, and it was really quite good. Very strong, except for maybe two skippable songs.

Her second effort, her double album NOW and WOWUMPH! They’re a killer combo. After over two years of listening and discovering Chinese pop music artists, I have learned to appreciate NOW a lot more. But WOW blew me away right away for its hard to figure out sound.

In NOW, she is a lot more traditional sounding… a few “Chinese” or I guess zhongguo feng songs, nice ballads with tight vocals, great production values, and lyrics. In WOW, she does the opposite. She’s R&B without sounding R&B, she’s a bit Rock without being Rock, she’s Pop without being truly Pop — she’s got funk, soul… her lyrics are whack, and she sounds like no one else.

If Leehom coined Chinked-out style, BiBi was able to pull it off in WOW.

I really believe those two albums have been the highlight of her career, and hope that her new contract with Gold Typhoon lets her — as an artist — experiment with those styles more.

Hopefully, I will be able to get the pinyin for Bibi’s songs. In the meantime, you can check the one that’s already done for the WOW album. If you’re lucky, I will learn Chinese hahaha… tough luck!

My Fluevog Wishlist

December 11, 2010 — 1 Comment

See, it’s been over a year since my last shoes-talk.

I’ve been renewing my wardrobe because my uncle loves to pick on me for using jeans and tees… and I keep telling him that anyone can dress smartly if they want to spend money. So I’m retiring my Tripp pair of jeans with orange stitching that’s so torn because I’ve used it for over 3 years, and I’m changing it for expensive jeans.

I’m switching my tees, for shirts (long and short sleeves), as well as suits and over $100USD jackets. I’m wearing ties, and vests, and I just need more than one pair of boots.

And I’m picky with the boots. I don’t want delicate expensive boots, so muggers in the street look at me thinking they can mug me. I want tough looking boots, so they think I can kick their butts.

But mainly, I wanna say — see, uncle~ we can dress whatever we like if we pay for it.

But damn those Fluevog stuff are expensive. I’m still chicken shit to buy shoes online because shoes are so specific. I did buy shirts online, though. They fit perfect. But Korean (or I guess, Asian) size makes me feel fat. I bought everything medium or large. O_O

I think that’s pretty much my 2010 album collection. And I’ve kept it 2010 to be fair. Today I bought a bunch of albums from Latin American artists that I found cheap and wanted to add to my collection – one was even released in 2000 LOL – and then I thought “Well, this is a poor CD insert.”

From left to right, top to bottom – the contestants are:

Ahhh… thank you, Inception xD

Check it out fully here.

I just had a bicycle spazz.

OMG, High fashion cycling? I’m all over it. I haven’t browse through all of the site, because I’m supposed to be heading to bed, but the few bikes that I could check out are so worth having. Like the Leikier~

So head over to Velorbis, and pick one to give me for any special occasion~ Like the Elechic.

My order for Yu Aoi’s newest release of Uso. the Pop-up book is finally here. Even though shipping cost me a little more than I had intended. I will review this, and then reveal the surprise I had for all of you.

First, let me tell you it is slightly weird to have an almost-real-life-sized photo of Yu’s face. It is just slightly bigger (I suppose), so it’s unsettling. The photo it’s so sharp and clear, and her skin is so flawless in it, I’m so jealous. But then again… that’s a well-lit photograph, so that’s unfair. xD

You know I love me wacky bikes~

The clean and striking IF Mode is aimed at commuters of the mobile generation who, until now, may have not considered cycling or folding bikes to be an option. IF Mode avoids oily chains, complex tubes with hidden dirt traps, and the clutter of traditional bike features. Meant for city commuters rather than bicycle warriors, it looks at home folded up on a subway or in an office, like other well designed accessories in your life. It also performs on the street like any lightweight, well-balanced full size bike.

But of course it’s nearly $2.5K – Of course it is, Amy.

Coz your coffee can’t get geekier than this, right?
