There’s a very great interview with Bruno Maag about his er… dislike of the use of Helvetica. I, for one, don’t mind Helvetica as you can see, but I try to use other type when it fits. A friend of mine told me “When in doubt, use Helvetica”. I personally agree with Maag when he talks about Univers, it’s very clean and very helpful for reading. I also think that Helvetica’s quirks gives it the warmth he mentions.

Patrick Burgoyne: Bruno, where does your deep-seated hatred of Helvetica come from? Isn’t hating Helvetica pointless? It’s like air or vanilla ice cream, it’s just there…

Bruno Maag: That’s the point, it is vanilla ice cream.

My fave type is Futura, though. I like the roundy-ness xD

But when it fits, it fits. LOL

Read the whole thing over at Creative Review.

The look amazing [the whole set], but my favorite was American Beauty because of the colors used, it just stands out on that set because of that.

Look through the whole set here.

Thanks to Mirella for the link. ;P

I know you love it.

They are pretty good, even if they remind me of those Grammy 2009 ads. which rocked.

Two days ago I received my last batch of Spirit Awards screeners… which I’m almost done watching because my internet connection has been failing, so I took that time to watch some of those films, and catch up on my reading~

Anyway, I’m used to receiving screeners on white paper disc cases. They’re economic, and just easier to get and use… they don’t take extra space, and they’re easy to mail.

Obviously, a big company like Lionsgate can take it to the next level, and send their own (simple, but kinda pretty) screener for Precious. It’s all white, with the company’s name, film’s name and a “Consider This” title glossy embossed finish. Plus, they list all the categories they would like to be considered for.

The only problem I found with the Precious screener is that it doesn’t play on my bedroom’s DVD player. It does play in my computer, and in my older DVD player. I have no idea why. Over the nearly 300 DVDs I own, only 4 or 5 don’t play on my player.

The other 5 DVD screeners are for Amreeka, Anvil: The Story of Anvil, The Messenger, The Vicious Kind, and Easier with Practice — all which came on paper cases. The latter two are the only ones that list their Spirit Awards nominations, so we can actually keep an eye for them when we watch them.

In the end, how important are screeners packaging for a film? After all, isn’t it supposed to be all about the film? Yes, it should be about the film, its characters, and its story. However, it would be nice to know what we should be looking out for… be it with some small text on the DVD, or an extra paper insert, or an extra DVD screen menu with the info. It doesn’t have to be as fancy as the Lionsgate.

Indie Spirit Screeners Short Takes

At least it could be…

Diesel Stupid PhilosophyLike balloons, we are filled with hopes and dreams. But. Over time a single sentence creeps into our lives. Don’t be stupid. It’s the crusher of possibility. It’s the worlds greatest deflator. The world is full of smart people. Doing all kind of smart things… Thats smart.  Well, we’re with stupid. Stupid is the relentless pursuit of a regret free life. Smart may have the brains…but stupid has the balls. The smart might recognize things for how they are. The stupid see things for how they could be. Smart critiques. Stupid creates. The fact is if we didnt have stupid thoughts wed have no interesting thoughts at all. Smart may have the plans… but stupid has the stories.  Smart may have the authority but stupid has one hell of a hangover. Its not smart to take risks… Its stupid.  To be stupid is to be brave. The stupid isnt afraid to fail. The stupid know there are worse things than failure… like not even trying.  Smart had one good idea, and that idea was stupid. You can’t outsmart stupid. So don’t even try. Remember only stupid can be truly brilliant.

So, BE STUPID

Best Posters 2009

January 20, 2010 — 1 Comment

and the winner is…

big omissions, in my opinion, for character sets where Alvin gets a nod instead of Where the Wild Things Are… However, there were some that got nominated, even if they didn’t win. WtWTA for “Serious Tagline”, Watchmen for “Character Set”, The Lovely Bones, Star Trek and Up in the Air for “Bravest Poster”, Adam for “Funny Tagline”, and 500 Days for “Best Poster”.

Obviously, Antichrist won Creepiest Poster LOL

And kudos to the Best Motion Poster, pretty cool.
