Archives For comeback

Ahh, that’s how I like my commercial pop. Slick and spoon-fed to me. It’s super surprising to see 2NE1 releasing 3 singles at a time — with music videos and promotions. From this 3 singles and the early Try to Follow Me, I can guarantee passing marks for the album already without listening to it yet. xD

I have to admit, however, LOVED Clap your Hands as a song. Liked Go Away as a video, and by the third Can’t Nobody, I was beginning to feel tired… but by the middle of the song I was at it again. It’s something about these girls — how old are they anyway? They must be in their 15s it feels — having fun. It’s hilarious to see them playing around.

First impressions~

Clap your Hands, I must admit… gave me a bit of a reggaeton vibe (in the fake forest scene, what’s up with that? Came out of nowhere… xD That’s CL, right? Haven’t learned their names, ha!) – it’s the autotune, the instrumentation, and the whole production – but the fact that I can’t understand what they sing about, and they look completely adorable and cool at the same time, it makes me take in the song in a whole different way. It’s slightly disturbing seeing them saying “let me rock your body” while swinging their hips that way.

If you know me, you probably wouldn’t think that I’d be a fan of Milk@Coffee, why? Because Milk@Coffee is happy poppy simple music. My friends think it sounds like children’s music. Obviously, they have that certain vibe because the female part of this duo, Kiki, sounds like a little kid singing, and the music in itself sounds very playful and catchy. However, looking into the songs, they reveal a certain maturity.

Of course you’ve got catchy favorites like Wo Bu Shi Rock n’ Roll (I’m not Rock n’ Roll), the wacky Curry Coffee, or Burn! Little Universe, and Yi Qi Lai (Together). However, there’s also songs like The Older the Lonelier – you gotta admit that’s a really REALLY sad title – or Accustomed to Loneliness. How about the most off-beat of their songs? The Zhongguo Feng-styled (traditional Chinese sounding) Die Lian Hua.

In this new single titled No Time — the album will be out by September… in a mayor label, so Milk@Coffee is no longer indie –, they seemed to have struck a balance with that maturity and the catchy. Yes, No Time sounds like a kid’s song, but it talks about a thing kids will never mind until they grow up a bit. How many of you keep telling the people you know that you don’t have enough time to do something. It’s a tale as old as… well, time.

The begins with a minute of various celebrities saying what they lack time for.  “I am __” they say, “I have no time for ____”.  These neglected activities include listening to music, dating, losing weight, studying abroad, visiting relatives,  having kids, and so many other commonplace ones that every listener should hear one they too pushed back at one point. The spoken introduction ends abruptly with Laure Shang saying: “My name is Shang Wenjie. I have no time to record whatever this is for you”.

Ahhh… I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with BoA. Why? I know she can perform, I know she can dance… but for the love of me, I can’t stand most her pop music. My friend liked her a lot, and I wanted to like her… but I never could get into her.

Now, if only BoA and Hyori could make up one person. She’d be Queen of the world. LOL

Now, call me crazy and what not, but BoA with this blond hair, and wacky clothing. I swear to god, she looks exactly like Hyori in some of those shots. It’s crazy. I was even thinking to myself that it couldn’t be because “not all Asians look alike,” but GOSH. Anyway, not gonna say that I’m crazy about this video — I mean, compared to I Eat You Up which is a very silly song… Game lacks a bit of HMPH.

Seems like everyone’s making a comeback. What is it? Comeback year?

How old is Se7en supposed to be? I feel like he should be contemporary of Bi Rain, but he looks as young as the “younger” DBSK, Big Bang, 2PM, 2AM and every other goddamn K-pop boy band released in the past 3 or 4 years.

Okay, having said that… did anyone else thought of Europop when listening to the song? I mean, the song it’s okay – but okay only. It’s too much autotune from the beginning, and the choreography is okay. I dunno if I’m being too “gay” now, but the women in K-pop are kicking k-pop “boys”  butt lately. Hyori and Narsha alone look so much cooler than Bi and Se7en.

Asian Music Diva (mostly music anyway) has been slowly making a comeback into the music scene since her “retirement” in 2004… right after the release of her album To Love (Jiang Ai, which is out of stock everywhere… but I’m waiting for a re-issue, hopefully), after the release of Wong Kar Wai’s 2046, and her Faye Live Tour.

Wong dusted off her dreamy vocals for the main theme of Chow Yun Fat’s film Confucius, titled You Lan Cao, and her performance at the CCTV’s Spring Gala a few months ago. Now she’s dusting off her touring abilities with a series of 5 concert dates in Beijing.

Beginning October 29th, and continuing with 30th, and 31st, as well as November 5th and 6th. There are 6 different pricing tickets, however, all the seats priced at 300 Yuan (nearly $50 USD), 500 Yuan, and 2500 Yuan (nearly $400 USD) sold out in 10 minutes.

A press conference, that included only 300 members of the press that were invited, was held yesterday in which Wong appeared wearing a red dress (possibly for the passing of her vocal teacher Dai Sicong, who passed away recently). This short series of concerts in Beijing have until now generated over $2Million USD.

Dates in Shanghai are also scheduled.

Oh, I am so jealous. Though, that thing about arriving 45min late, it’s a huge… and I really mean a HUGE turn off for me, this just goes to show you that Faye Wong is truly a star, because no one was pissed off when she did finally arrived. I imagine that she’s truly mesmerizing in person… like meeting a fairy or something. Maybe she sparkles. LOL

柴米油鹽醬醋茶 (Chai Mi You Yan Jiang Cu Cha), the first single of the just announced new album by Lee Hom Wang – probably out by the end of the month and titled 十八般武艺 (18 Types of Martial Arts?) – has just hit the net with a concept strikingly familiar to the first 15min. of Pixar’s UP.

Which… still kill me apparently. GOSH. Damn you, Leehom – you made me teary.

and the song, literally meaning “firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, tea” but it just names the simple “daily necessities”. At first listen, the songs seems average LHW style, but on following listening, it makes so much more sense… especially with the video.

*EDIT*
There’s an English-subbed version courtesy of Leehom’s channel~

Earlier in the year I listened to one of Tsuchiya’s albums… I think it was Nudy Show? Anyway, I really dig her on Kamikaze Girls. I mean, she’s really funny in it. But Sakuran is okay… the album was okay-ish… and the music video included on the Kamikaze Girls dvd was very Alejandra Guzman to me.

I hope she doesn’t end up like Alejandra Guzman.

Anyway, here comes Tsuchiya’s new single – Atashi – after having her second kid… whom she called Simba (SHIMBA) LOL Too much Lion King. xD Lucky for the kid Tsuchiya didn’t decide on  Hakuna Matata.

Atashi is an okay song. I’m not too fond on the word “atashi” mainly because it’s used for I/Me for women. I remember one of my Japanese lessons, and my teacher (a guy only one year older than me) told me this, and I went “But WHYYY?” Because that’s how it works. BAWWWW~

There’s a motorbike on the video! LOL

Seriously, guys.

Asia is having a Women Tuxed-off. First with the likes of Chris Lee and BiBi…

Now~~~ Hello Jing Chang!

She won the first season of Super Idol in Taiwan, and is actually signed on Gold Typhoon, which is also BiBi’s label now — someone’s got a fetish for girls in tuxes… LOL

Call it subtext. TOO much subtext.

Actually, can I just say Bibi’s face in the last few seconds of the video, on the close-up, she looks really really GOOD. Like her face is amazing on that shot. And you get DOUBLE amazing face. I was wondering there… “OMG, is she going to do it?” It was tension… did you feel it?

EDIT
The Youku version seems to look better than the YouTube one. After all, it does say it’s HD (高清) – Gao Qing means High Clarity, hence HD… though had to look where to turn the HD on xD HD is so much simpler…

EDIT 2
Found the proper version by Typhoon Group (Bibi’s company), so in case you want the Youku one.

as far as music goes? I think it works with the image, though I don’t know how that will translate on overall album work… I am getting curious. I miss original Bibi though, I need to hear her original voice. Her lower voice is so awesome… she’s so eclectic on Canned Fish.

I wonder why Canned Fish too…

All I think about when saying Canned Fish is THIS Canned Fish. You know? The One? With rice… I grew up… or I mean, didn’t grow up with that one. Guilty pleasure. Always reminds me of my grandfather. That and fried eggs on white rice and soy sauce. Classic.
