I want more McDull!

August 1, 2009 — 2 Comments

LOL’

I confess, I saw “McDull, the Alumni” because I saw a clip of Bibi, and thought it was hilarious. My first thoughts? To tell you the truth, the film is really really REALLY weird. Firstly because it starts out with some peeing contest bathroom humor – because it’s supposed to be a “double feature” but whatever~

If you actually skip that part, the film is better.

Then they tell you the story of George Washington, played by McDull and his mom. George Washington liked to chop stuff, so one day he chopped the soy chicken!!! Guilty he went to his mom and told her “Mah, I chopped the chicken.” His mother in return told him that what he had chopped wasn’t chicken, but duck. LOL ~ Turns out, McDull is a series… and this is what happens when you just watch the films. LOL

McDull, the Alumni is the third film in a series of McDull stories~~~ starting with My Life as a McDull, and followed by McDull Prince de la Bun. LOL But of the three, Alumni is the one that has to do less with McDull. Moreover, a 4th McDull film titled McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten is set to open in Hong Kong in two weeks time (though apparently it already opened in Mainland China).

McDull… or Mak Dau (in Cantonese) is the main character. Mak Dau is a little pig with a dark spot on his right eye. On the day of his birth, his mother wished for him to be intelligent… no, no~~ a businessman – no, no~~ how about as handsome as Chow Yun Fat or Tony Leung? xD But in the end, she only wishes her son would be lucky in life.

So that’s how McDull starts the journey of a pretty unremarkable life. He’s not the most handsome, he’s not bright, but he gets by~~~ dreaming, trying, failing, and trying once again.

On Alumni, McDull does a crossover with real life, as the Spring Blossom Kindergarten is celebrating it’s almost 50th anniversary, in which they will be celebrating almost 50 years of educating almost 50 years worth of graduate students who have now become pillars of society.

McDull, the Alumni

Awwww, aren’t they cute?

Not Coraline or Alice in Wonderland wicked,
but still worth watching~
And it’s filled with celebrity voices…
like George Clooney (Mr. Fox), Meryl Streep (Mrs. Fox), Michael Gambon,
Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody
Brian Cox, Anjelica Huston and even Wes Anderson who is also directing this
stop-motion animated film… hmm,
do I see a new Best Animated Feature nominee here?

:O

ZOMG!
a la Juri! DVD + Photobook!

Mainland pop star Zhou Bichang (a.k.a. BiBi) turns movie director! Since signing with her new record company, the 2005 Super Girl first runner-up has directed three shorts that were first released on the Internet. They are now collected on DVD, allowing fans to witness her developing visual creativity and narrative flair. The first one, “Hide and Seek”, was highly popular in the 3rd Global Awards of Chinese New Media competition. BiBi plays an angel in the second chapter “Angel’s Corner”, which expresses her concern for various social issues, while the final piece “One Half Each Person” is more self-reflecting.The DVD comes with a 210-page full-color photobook, in which the bespectacled singer appears entirely without makeup. The book also includes photos she has taken around the world, as well as excerpts from her diaries written between April to December of 2008.

Ooh la! Short films~~~

Bibi Chow - Make Up Remover, Good to Be Myself

Too bad it’s not subbed. But still, would be interested to see it.
And it’s okay-priced. Would you consider? LOL

Teaser tease!
This gave me the chills, and it’s only the teasing part before the trailer. LOL

Looks abso-bloody-lutely fantastic~
We know the story… but it’s all about the vision,
and the Cheshire Cat looks freaky O.o

*EDIT*
damn, will get back to you when they re-post this.

*EDIT*
Disney’s finally letting the teaser do its magic again. =D

I love dinosaurs! LOL

I don’t really buy fashion magazines though… xD

but their photoshoots are very pretty. =D Yay for pretty photos!
not all photoshoots though, some are rubbish…
but Fashiontography is nifty! See more Fashion and Photos!

There’s an interesting article on the DailyMail.co.uk with former Marie Claire editor Liz Jones talking about why she’s fallen out of love with the mags she once loved.

Here’s an interesting excerpt;

Take the shoot in Kerala, India, in the June issue of British Vogue: in a region where most people live on less than $1 a day, there is Daria Werbowy in a £3,690 cotton dress by Yohji Yamamoto and a silk/linen ballgown by Ralph Lauren costing £9,500 – the little children used as obscene accessories.

Even the more downmarket, mainstream magazines relentlessly push clothes very few of their readers could afford. In Grazia is a silk dress by Gucci costing £3,600, and a few pages later we find the most ridiculous garment of all: a red snakeskin-trimmed jacket by Louis Vuitton costing £7,400.

Though Yohji Yamamoto is pretty crazy awesome. LOL’

Anyway, you can read the whole thing here.
Really, do read it… here’s another quote to get you interested!

I spoke to one beauty director of a big British glossy, and she told me that she can ‘never be critical of any of the big brands. You can say that my job is, really, to write press releases for them. Only tiny, boutique brands with no advertising budget would ever be given a bad review in my pages.’

And this is why independent rules. LOL’

Yu Aoi Short Takes~

July 18, 2009 — 6 Comments

I know, I know… I’m being lazy.

By the way, by the time of posting this, I’m probably away taking photos at a concert. This is a scheduled post because I wanted Maggie Cheung as the first post for a little longer… xD

I usually post one thing per post, but there’s too much Yu to post –
all via aoinohoho’s Yu-dedicated JP blog.
dozou~~~

First!

Rumors that NHK’s future 2011 (I know, I know… so far ahead) Taiga drama (a la Yoshitsune, Atsuhime) would be centered around three sisters… The Three Asai Sisters (?). They throw in some names like Masami Nagasawa and Aya Ueto, but seem positively (?) more thrilled to throw in Yu’s name xD – though you know, it IS a Google Translate.

Me on the other hand… I loved Atsuhime… a strong female who moved the pieces in this game of life. That may have had to do with the high ratings the show got alongside the writing, and production values. So the prospect of Yu on a Taiga drama thrills me. For one thing, I will be able to watch her once a week on my TV for a year. LOL – but then, that will mean a decrease on films… *eek!*

Second!

Apparently (this is old old news), FRaU Magazine had a list Yu’s 10 Best Films~
Some interesting choices there!

3 films in English made it to her list…

  • White Oleander (2002)
  • 2:37 (2006) [starring fellow Teresa Palmer of December Boys, Daniel Radcliffe fame]
  • Almost Famous (2000)

A very international one… actually, a two-part film project titled Ten Minutes Older, divided into The Trumpet and The Cello. (2002)

And the rest are Asian… though I’ve only heard of Sway (with fellow Joe Odagiri), which I wanna watch.

and third!

aoinohoho uploaded this 9min video of… Yu talking about a book? Book reading?

[iframe src=”https://www.tudou.com/v/GIK0Jvglz5w/v.swf” width=”480″ height=”400″]

Oh yeah, and did I mention my mom loves Yu? She told me that tonight… again. LOL

Hello there, Carey Mulligan!
And Emma Thompson, and Olivia Williams…
and Peter Sarsgaard and Alfred Molina – LOL

Looks a bit on the sappy side, but even like that seems worth a look. I loved About a Boy and High Fidelity xD – In the meantime, if you intend to watch this… please also check out Precious (aka. Push) – it will be at the Gala at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Also there…

Kore-eda’s Air Doll with Doona Bae!!!! *squee*
and Bong Joon-ho’s Mother
xD

Monday’s shorts…

First of all…

Natalie Portman was cast for the newest Marvel adaptation of Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh – say what? – Adding more to the coming Portman year on our way

Then… Neil Patrick Harris confirmed as the Emmy Awards host!!! – Are you ready for it? Coz I’m pushing for a Toni nomination… AT LEAST~~~ and NPH is ze bestz! xD

And I’m sorry, but I love Lainey… and I love when she is fancrazy for HP (among other stuff) – Emma Watson is the shitz. LOL – hilarious.

Also… I went for japanese food today ^^ – it was good. And I ended up buying a beanie/scarf or whatever you call those that you can use as scarf, as well as beanies. LOL

Though I sweared to myself that I wouldn’t dish money to watch HP6 for obvious shipping reasons, and my not enjoying Hp6 and HP7. UMPH! – I’ve been tempted, I must admit… these past few days to actually go and check it out. Anyway!

I have made up my mind! – thanks to this

I ain’t going… I ain’t dishing my money. Maybe my time…
who knows~ depends on the time LOL
maybe soon, maybe on cable…

Obviously press get press screenings, so they can review it and properly fuzz about the film. It’s usually an invitation, you go to a certain time and place to watch it, maybe discuss it… enjoy it, and write about it telling everyone to go watch it, or just dismiss it.

It’s commonly known that you’re not to bring your cameras… or camera cellphones (?? what for, can you really record decent footage long enough in a cellphone?) – whatever. It’s just insulting to know that you’re invited somewhere but BEWARE, you will be arrested if you’re seen breaking the rules. ARRESTED! Doesn’t the police force have other things to do????

Why bother then to invite someone if you are already thinking he/she will be ripping your movie off? Are we in the assumption that all guests are there to record your movie?

In any case, I doubt CAM film versions come out of Peru, so not much need to fuzz over it at the moment. They are usually fromo outside… and I doubt CAMs are press screening made. And even then, maybe a nice “this is a screener” text would suffice.

More Juri and Nodame!!
