Rani Mukerji Films Ranked

October 6, 2013 — 1 Comment

So tell me, is this impressive for a couple of months watching Indian films or what? I must admit, though, that I’m still not familiar enough with Hindi or any other dialect spoken in films. My level of understanding goes from having a ladki or ladka giving their dil tere liye. And I’m not even sure that’s Hindi or Urdu.

Also, though most of the films I’ve come across are subtitled, some weren’t properly sync to their video sources. I think that happened to me with Ghulam, Nayak, Yuva, Chalte Chalte and maybe Hum Tum. I can’t even remember any longer. After this, I realized I really really REALLY love Rani Mukerji on screen… say it with her voice “she’s so cute.” And her eyes are so expressive with such on screen charisma. Her dancing doesn’t seem to be at the level of ease as… let’s say- Madhuri Dixit, but she compensate with the acting.

Though her performance on Hey Ram is barely 10% of the film, I do think it deserves its spot on the Top5 Top6 of her films and everyone should watch it. It’s an amazing movie.

Fan for life!

My Dad’s Mayday Playlist

October 6, 2013 — 1 Comment

For the past year, my dad had become a really big Mayday fan. I think this happened right after watching the concert film Mayday 3DNA, he used to show it to his friends and carry the film as well as their discography on his USB ALL THE FREAKING TIME. When I retrieved his USB, he had the discography on.

So… as a means to remember him, I made a short playlist with some of their songs.

  1. 時光機 (Shi Guang Ji) – Time Machine
  2. 我們 (時時刻刻) (Wo Men (Shi Shi Ke Ke)) – Us/Moment by Moment
  3. 倔強 (Jue Jiang) – Stubborn
  4. 知足 (Zhi Zu) – Contentment
  5. 戀愛ING (Lian Ai-I-N-G) – Love-I-N-G
  6. 盛夏光年 (Sheng Xia Guang Nian) – Eternal Summer
  7. 擁抱 (Yong Bao) – Embrace
  8. 為愛而生 (Wei Ai Er Sheng) – Born to Love
  9. 離開地球表面 (Li Kai Di Qiu Biao Mian) – Leaving the Surface of the Earth
  10. 乾杯 (Gan Bei) – Cheers

I’m a little bit sad I have no one else to share this with. I think my dad would’ve loved seeing this clip of BiBi and Chris Lee together after all these years. It’s all gonna be so weird now, I have no one to share all my music with.

I would rarely post a fanvid lyric video, but this song suddenly popped up in my recommended YT clips, and seems very fitting.

Summer has come and passed,
The innocent can never last-
wake me up when September ends.

Like my father’s come to pass,
seven years have gone so fast-
wake me up when September ends.

Here comes the rain again,
falling from the stars.
Drenched in my pain again,
becoming who we are…

As my memory rests,
but never forgets what I lost-
wake me up when September ends.

Ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began-
wake me up when September ends.

Like my father’s come to pass,
twenty years has gone so fast-
wake me up when September ends.

And surely, September has come and passed., like my father.

Sept. 26. Wake me up when September ends.

I think this is how it’s going to go~

… after I’m done with Rani, of course. xD

There are A LOT of Indian movies, and each star has A LOT of films in their filmographies. This time around, I’ve taken the “most voted” films in IMDb alongside the “best rated” and added a star with personal recommendations I’ve been given to create this list. I don’t even know if I will find all these with subtitles. If I managed to watch 15 or 20 of these, I might even have a Madhuri Dixit Films Ranked list [1][2] XD

… but I don’t want to get my hopes up.

I noticed last time [1] that she had been generally in better spirits, and Britney seems happy here. She laughs and she reminisces — and she’s made me glimpse at Miley doing that thing she’s done and I’ve been trying to avoid coz I don’t want that mental image — but Britney seems… excited about her show in Vegas.

It will never be the same for me, of course, that illusion- that chance I had to see her live the time she came over, and I had all these pent-up nostalgic feelings but was never too sure I wanted to see her show and be disappointed. I then read a lot of bad reviews on it and was glad I chose not to go. Vegas is also never a destination I would think of going coz it doesn’t call me, so it’s likely I’ll never see her show.

I just wish her happiness.

… voy a alegrar tu tristeza
vamos a hacer una fiesta
‘pa que’ste amor crezca mas.

In all seriousness, most snarky Peruvians would probably mock Gianmarco’s vocal abilities, but I don’t know any of those snarky ones that would mock his composition skills. I think there’s a strong 90% who would praise them. Hoy by Gloria Estefan is one of the most popular ones he’s written, and the video was shot in Cuzco to top it all.

And Hoy isn’t even the most complex of the songs he’s written. But it’s still a really good one.

Quickie literal lyrics translation after the break.

piggy-dolls-lee-ji-yeon

Korean girl idol group Piggy Dolls was making a comeback — after the quite catchy and makeover-ish The Girl that I Know (아는여자) [MV], which gave a terrific hair style to singer Lee Ji Yeon — only to run into the video for Ordinary Girl (보통여자) [MV] and see that I didn’t freaking RECOGNIZE ANYONE! At first I chugged it to maybe having actors not on the MV, but apparently- yes, they’ve changed all members.

I don’t even know why bother keeping the name of the group. It’s just lazy management and creates an even bigger image problem. And here I was looking forward to Ji Yeon’s latest makeover. Though I must admit, her hair color and shape was perfect the last time.

This year’s season of The Voice of China is a bit on the meh side compared to last year’s. Some good talents, but not as awing as some of last year’s. This battle for Wang Feng’s team, though, from Simon Chung (鐘偉強) of Hong Kong singing it out with Beijing-based Bi Xia (毕夏) with the classic Hey Jude was pretty emotional.

The whole father/daughter interaction going on, because Simon took the time to guide Bi Xia through the song and Bi Xia’s knowing what he’d done for her makes the whole elimination process all the more painful.

Other battle highlights~

From Na Ying’s team:
Yi Guang Nian (毅光年) Vs. Sheng Yin Yue Tuan (声音乐团) – I Surrender (没离开过)

From Amei’s team:
Zhang Xin (张新) Vs. Liu Zi Chen (刘籽辰) – What’s the Trouble in your Mind (你在煩惱什麼) + We Are Young

Not exactly a strong dream collab of mine, but I’m sure GD was psyched to do this. I’m just glad to see Missy back after launching a couple of video-less singles [1] last year. She’s looking great and they both seem to be having a blast here.

The question now is… when do I get to download this track?
