The photos by Steven Klein – they are fantastic… but I always find Portman articles interesting. Johansson makes it the bit more like an awesome read. You can read the whole thing in the W Magazine – Sister Act.

Continuing with the Best Kisses posts, this is one of my fave films. A dark romantic comedy about Julien and Sophie, who become friends as kids and begin playing a dangerous game of Truth or Dare. Marion Cotillard is truly fantastic on this one, and the various versions of La Vie en Rose make it great.

Since I couldn’t find great captures online, I took some time to make my own. If you use them, it’ll be great that you could link back, or leave a message. ^^

The graphics are from the following moments of the film; Julien and Sophie kissing on top of a car, after Sophie dares him to do so, which continues in the alley until the moment ends and she realizes that it might be just a game to him. And the other moment was when they were about to be covered with the cement, and Julien tells her he should’ve dared to love her like crazy… and they stay happy. together. forever.

I Watch Catherine Too.

January 30, 2008 — 1 Comment

Anyone ever watched the Franco-Canadian show Catherine? TV-5 Latin America shows it, and I was trying to get some info online, but there wasn’t much. (to read a post about it click here)

CBC - Catherine Cast

Catherine is a pretty funny show done in French-speaking Canada, by CBC. It stars Sylvie Moreau as Catherine, a sassy and wacky advertiser at Mirage-Image Agency. Alongside Catherine, we see her landlady, her ex boyfriend, the Chinese owner of the grocery, etc. Oh! and don’t forget about her freak-o-megalomaniac flatmate, Sophie (Marie-Hélène Thibault).

If you’re a non-French speaker, or most likely are an English speaker… you can sign this petition to get it on DVD.

The Screen Actors Guild award winners are in! Please throw me a film bone, SAG announcers!

Javier Bardem

Supporting Actress Film
Ruby Dee (oh bam! snap!!)

Lead Actor Film
Daniel Day-Lewis

Lead Actress Film
Julie Christie (no!!! teary eyed for Marion)

Outstanding Cast Film
No Country for Old Men

Full list of winners here (with speeches)!

Thoughts?
I’m so sad for Marion not winning, though Christie’s performance was moving… I’m still supporting Marion for the Oscar. LOL’ Come on! They showed the “Marcel! Marcel!” clip… that is like the best clip in the film, one of the longest scenes on the film and one of Marion’s finest!

Mycket Bra Svensk Film

January 26, 2008 — 2 Comments

LOL’ I don’t even know if my title would be grammatically correct, but I just wanted to say that I’ve reached my 3-films mark. Yup, that’s right! I finally saw my third film in Swedish today. It all began when I saw Så Som i Himmelen, which is now officially my first Svensk Film… then, also on Cinemax, I saw Den Osynlige – which sadly has already been Americanized. And today I saw Mitt Liv Som Hund, which was fantastic!

So can anyone recommend other Swedish films I could watch? Swedish film and international title on the comments would be appreciated! It’s most likely that Julyssa will comment, but others are welcomed to do it too! xD

Oscar Nominees Announced!

January 22, 2008 — 1 Comment

Nominees for this year’s Oscar nominations were announced while I was sort of sleeping, so I woke up to CNN’s news announcement! Kinda surprising on some categories, but take a look at the list yourself.

Thoughts? Marion and Julie Christie got a nod, so I’m freaking out, ha! It will all be decided next week in the SAG… but still then, it’s not for sure. Moreover, Ellen Page got a nod! I’m happy for her because I loved watching Juno, but I sure hope she doesn’t become my upset. If anyone should beat Cotillard, it should be Julie Christie. Oh yeah, one kind of a surprise was Laura Linney getting a nod instead of Angelina Jolie who had been getting a few more nods this season.

On the animated front, Persepolis against Ratatouille. Interesting who will win, I will give my vote to Persepolis but it’s most likely that Ratatouille will get this year’s Best Animated Feature, as Finding Nemo got it against Les Triplettes de Belleville.

Overall, La Vie en Rose got 3 nods (Best Actress, Best Costume Design, Best Make-up) while Atonement got 7 nods. But that wasn’t enough to beat No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood, which got 8 nods each. People’s fave, Juno, got 4 nods… and Away from Her got 2 nods (including one for Sarah Polley, woot woot). Diablo Cody got a nod for Best Original Screenplay *woot woot*

The biggest surprise for me where the Foreign Film nods, which went to films that others haven’t even mention… which is great because it makes it really interesting to guess!!
