  • 30th Hong Kong Film Awards: Best Song

Let’s start off by saying that my Chinese/Hong Kong film viewing… isn’t, just isn’t. LOL Of all the nominees, I have only seen two. Hahaha, I’m a little ashamed of that considering I’ve seen over 120 movies last year. Though, there were 3 other films I wanted to watch before the nominations were announced: Love in a Puff, Gallants, Under The Hawthorn Tree, and Detective Dee ;D

And I’ve decided I should watch Reign of Assassins with my dad, and Hot Summer Days with my mom. LOL

Also, Tetsuya Nakashima’s Kokuhaku was crowned as Best Asian Film, beating the likes of Aftershocks and Monga.

Anyway, we’re here because of the Best Song category, which had the most artists I was familiar with, and we’re going to be looking at each of them and their respective songs~ First, the winner:

Jun Kung’s Here to Stay from Merry-Go Round

  • Coin de Rue to Get Hollywood Remake?

Most fans outside Japan haven’t even been able to watch Raiou… let alone Yogashiten Coin de Rue, yet here comes the news that Hollywood might be preparing  their version already?

    via Tokyohive

I’m trying not to have a biased, but remake news are getting ridiculous. At least wait a year before a remake, Hollywood. Coin de Rue hasn’e even been out for more than a month, and you do this. WHY?! xD You know allllllll those talks about how Hollywood is not original anymore? Well, this type of news ain’t making it any better.

Has any of you seen Coin de Rue?

What do you think of this?

Who would Yu Aoi fans cast in her role… since, you know, she doesn’t speak English. xD

  • Yu Aoi for new Yoji Yamada Tokyo Kazoku Film

Yay! And I can re-use the photo too~ LOL

Yoji Yamada was working on a new project based on the re-telling of beloved film Tokyo Story, which will be called Tokyo Kazoku (Tokyo Family). The cast has been announced as Bunta Sugawara, Etsuko Ichihara, Masashiko Nishimura, Yui Natsukawa, Shigeru Muroi, Shozo Hayashiya, Satoshi Tsumabuki and Yu Aoi.

Satoshi Tsumabuki (30) will play the younger son, with Yu Aoi (25) playing his girlfriend.

    via Nippon Cinema

I know the reviews for About Her Brother, aka. Otouto, weren’t glowing, but I’m still giddy over the fact that Yoji Yamada decided to call Yu-chan once again. That must mean she’s a professional, and that people want to work with her more than once, right?

Shooting of Tokyo Kazoku starts on April 1st until late June, with a possible release (in Japan) by the end of the year… most likely early next year.

  • Everything Is A Remix: KILL BILL by Robert Grigsby Wilson

I love this one, despite not having watched many of these films… I still love Kill Bill – Vol.1 more than Vol. 2 though xD. Good stuff… but you know what’s with buying things that come in different parts? They always release a better product… one with additional scenes… or better conversion, there’s always something extra.

  • Oscar 2010-2011 Watchlist

I know, I know… I haven’t been blogging about any of the awards since I launched YAM. But hey! If you were following YAM on Twitter, you’d know I’ve been commenting on them~

Did the Globes [Firth, Portman, Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right), Paul Giamatti, Melissa Leo + Christian Bale, + The Social Network wins for Movie+Score+Script+Director] Did the whole SAG Awards [Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Melissa Leo + Christian Bale (The Fighter) + The King’s Speech for Cast), and the Oscar noms aren’t really that surprising, but there were a couple of nice things.

First, Yay Javier Bardem, Yay John Hawkes.

Here’s my list of watched and not-watched films.

    Light blue – Watched
Hot pink – Dying to watch.

  • Jose Marti: El Ojo del Canario Poster

When I wrote my review, I couldn’t find a proper poster so I grabbed photoshop and whipped my own, but I made note that it wasn’t any official artwork.

However someone ended up using it xD

You might like to know that YAM’s got a big resolution of the nifty poster designed by Giselle Monzon Calero.

  • Online Film Critics 2010 Nominations

Another one for Black Swan O+O

OMG, Natalie Portman news – still SHOCKING. xD

    Amazing Oscar timing.

Also… YAY! Kim Hye-ja for Best Actress in Madeo/Mother again!

  • 34th Japan Academy Prize Noms

First, let me get this out of the way: All the foreign nominations are American films, which includes Avatar, Toy Story 3, Hurt Locker, Inception and Invictus. Those along are a mixed bag for me xD Invictus was rather insipid, wouldn’t you say? And to include Avatar in the same list as Toy Story 3 is… hmm, rather a pity xD

The 34th Japan Academy Prize is led by Sang-il Lee’s Akunin (Villain) with 15 nods in 13 categories. Followed by Yoji Yamada’s Otouto (Yougner Brother/About her Brother) and Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins with 11 nods. Rounding up the best pictures is Izuru Narushima’s Kokou no Mesu (A Lone Scalpel) with 5 nods.

And forgive the bias, but Yu Aoi got a nod for Supporting Actress xD

    Akunin
    Otouto
    Kokuhaku
    Kokou no Mesu
    13 Assassins

  • 17th SAG Awards Nominations~

Once again, sorry for the late post ;P

Some surprises… good surprises, and just “where did that come from” surprises~

First, YAY! John Hawkes for Winter’s Bone, who’s been just laying low since the start of the award season. However, where did Hilary Swank for Conviction come from? xD

Though, The Social Network seems to be the favorite of the season – cough, not that great – it only earned Jesse Eisenberg Lead Actor. Instead, the rest of the Cast nominated films — Black Swan, The Fighter, The Kids Are All Right and The King’s Speech — got noms in all the rest categories.

I think I would have given The Social Network’s cast nomination to Winter’s Bone ;P

Also! Craig made me realized that they’ve snubbed Ryan Gosling and Michelle Wiliams – and Blue Valentine. Mmmkay… what’s up with that? But… YAY, Chris Colfer xD
