Archives For Spanish

Heads up!

September 22, 2009 — 4 Comments

The post I wrote for Cinencuentro was published today, talking about the recent Peruvian film posters, it’s in Spanish but I’m thinking of translating… after all, I think I’m snarkier in English.

Give it a go, would you?

Google Translate.

no really. still have stuff left to do.

I owe Julz a review back, I have read your thoughts. I just need to give it two or three re-reads more to see what can be improved. At first sight, I like it. =D

Also… need to work on a self-portrait for  tonight, which totally slipped my mind until my friend mentioned it, hahaha. Also!!! More ideas brewing~~~ xD I need to focus on something, but sill dunno what to focus on. Soon though.

And!!! I’ve been invited to blog as a guest. More on that once I focus hahahaha.

I also guest “blog” for Award season xD, and am almost shitting my pants for that “talk” I need to give next month which is approaching incredibly soon.

Will post something else later for post count!

oh! I forgot! Flickr’s got a new feature!!! Gallery curator!! xD
Here’s my Concert Photography Gallery~~~

It’s 35 films this year! Woohoo! Well, not much to celebrate since some of those were really REALLY bad, but they count for the movie countdown~~~
In the meantime, I’ve decided to put my list of Best 2001 films.

It was really difficult to choose some, as I seem to not have seen many 2001 films, so many of my nominees are the same as the Oscar, I feel. Remembering the films made me remember about the first time I actively waited for the Oscar. I mean, the event in itself was something I did, but that year was the year I said I’m gonna watch the Oscar to see who will win. American Beauty won that year, as did Kevin Spacey and The Matrix. 1999 Films, wow~~~ I was 13 going on 14.

Anyway~ without further ado~~~

I know music videos is not that popular in here, considering how visits have dropped since I begun posting a few music videos this past week… but this brought back memories of school and chemistry classes. xD My teacher has his own Facebook group hahaha.

Just ran into this very cute music video – alert! Yma Sumac pop culture reference xD – really, I never thought I would have seen Yma Sumac named alongside Superman, but alas~~~ La Casa Azul (the blue house) has come up with the song (the new Yma Sumac) and this cute Cartoon Network-esque music video.

And they’ve made the original Spanish version, and a Japanese version! Though sounds wayyyyy cuter in Japanese. It’s the whole electro-cutesy pop vibe, you know? It just fits better with the voice.

you can check the Spanish version here, and
visit Cocoe Studios who were in charge of the animation~~~

July + August Films~

Cartelera en Lima: Máncora

Mancora PosterMáncora (2008)

Genre: Drama with a road trip
Starring: Jason Day, Elsa Pataky, Enrique Murciano, Anahi de Cardenas, Angela Alegria, Phellipe Haagensen, Liz Gallardo
Directed by: Ricardo de Montreuil

Mancora tells the story of Santiago, a 21-year-old Limeño who parties a lot and just doesn’t care about life at all. One early morning, his dad commits suicide, so Santiago is forced to re-evaluate his life.

First things first, I really admire de Montreuil for his visual style which is present in the music videos he’s directed [Andrea Echeverri’s Baby Blues from the La Mujer de mi Hermano OST] and his debut film. So just as the aforementioned, Mancora doesn’t disappoint visually (though I’d wish the poster were different).

Technically, Mancora is great. Cinematography, color treatment… the underwater scene is beautiful to watch. However, if we need to get into the story – there’s nothing for me to chew on. According to them, the film is marketed at 20-somethings to nearly 30-year-olds who will “relate” to the story. So that means me. Either I’m 23 going on 32, or the film is better suited for 16-year-olds with existential crisis.

The main character never truly develops, while the supporting characters never leave the page as real people, and just play the part like the grim cartoon version of what could have been~ Yes, we could have told this story in a year, we could have had more time to develop the character, but we only had 100 minutes. It doesn’t matter, this whole “you can’t develop a story in this amount of time” means nothing when there are films that have the protagonist meet a bunch of people, and the bunch of people can still leave a mark on you. Case and point, Into the Wild. – 2/5

Only like 6 days, in fact!

Here’s some more info~~~

Episode 1 – GITA~ KE~SU no Onna (Her Guitar Case)
Episode 2 – HOPE
Episode 3 – Tonari no Tonari no Akira (Akira, the neighbor of the neighbor? LOL)
Episode 4 – Tabi no Aida (Traveling Time)
Episode 5 – Aru Asa, Hinata wa Totsuzen ni (One Morning, Suddenly Sunny? xD)

And Juri singing the closing theme! which she also wrote xD LOL

Cycling!

August 26, 2009 — 3 Comments

I have been with the urge to ride a bike for a while now, I just don’t because Lima sucks. It’s stressful, will someone run you over? Will someone try to mug you? The black smoke coming out of the cars and public transport. The noise…

Drivers are irresponsible, and people on the street suck too. It’s just the way it is.

But one can dream. xD

I recently saw an article on a National Geographic magazine, with this photo~

Cycling in Portland Oregon - National Geographic

Saying Portland, Oregon is the best city in America to ride bikes. It has over 250Km. of biking paths. And there’s also the Bike Commuter Act passed about a year ago that lets companies give $20USD extra to their people for bike expenses. Add to that, people actually stop their cars for them…

sighs.

I’ve had a dream that had to do with it. xD
I want to open a design studio (I’ve seen a place, super cool LOL) and I had imagined in my mind that we would give our clients x% off if they come to our offices riding a bike. I would go every day with my bike in my sweet office loft.

But I need better environment design. I need signals, and I need someone that will assure me that I will be save while on my bike. Can’t have that with over 400 road accidents in the year. Not until we start being civilized.

I’m also preparing for 2009, though to be honest~~~ I’ve noticed that I don’t have many 2009 albums – so we’ll see how that goes. I’ve chosen Top15 Songs of 2008 excluding Soundtracks, except for my #1 for sentimental reasons.

No, really. Continue Reading…
