Archives For Language

I was just staring into space in the middle of the night, unable to sleep, and it hit me that it’s been ten years— It’s my 10th anniversary for a lot of things: it’s my tenth anniversary of Juri Ueno~~~ and Last Friends turned 10 this year! It’s also ten years since the Beijing Olympics, ten years since Beijing, Beijing! Wo Ai Beijing; it’s been ten years since BiBi, ten years of YAM Magazine, and ten-mother-freaking-years since I became a fan of Yu Aoi [1][2][3][4][5]. It didn’t come in this order, but you get the idea.

May 16th is the date. Remember that. This should’ve been posted that day, but I’m way to giddy to wait. It’s taken me a long time to sit down and look back at years of archives to update this entry, but I suppose it still beats trying to figure out how to write a comprehensive Wikipedia entry.

Yu-chan and I, we’ve had our ups and downs, but I’ve always tried to stay as loyal as possible. LOL I may not stalk her tags online 24/7 (all my Japanese sources in English are rubbish now) and my Japanese skills are in the gutter, but I’ve managed to remain the biggest English/Spanish-speaking Yu Aoi fan in this side of the hemisphere (if not the world, xD). It’s been a good ride, Yu-chan. I’m looking forward to all the catching-up of all your latest movies. Here’s to another decade with Yu!

Cheap Yu-puns intended~

I saw this on Twitter, but can’t post there for obvious reasons lol

It’s honestly the hardest thing I’ve had to choose recently. LOL I think I had the most problems choosing the right top node with Dab Dab / Funky Boy / Peppermint Chocolate / Cat Fight / Rude Boy; because – geez, what bops. I also almost had a stroke when I had to choose between Recipe / Be Calm to the point I had to re-think my vote. xD Similar to Spring Fever and Azegag; and honestly, I can’t choose between Recipe and Words Don’t Come Easy. However, this explains so much why Melting remains my (first and) favorite album to date.

Not to say that Yellow Flower isn’t amazing, of course. Rude Boy and Spring Fever, both bops; SWFS and Be Calm, both feeling~~~ Melting is another level, tho.

I was gushing about it over the weekend, but I thought I should also post about it here.

I think it’s oddly befitting that Yu-chan wins her first ever (unbelievable, right?) Japanese Academy Best Actress trophy the year that I’m celebrating my 10th year as her fan. It’s so moving. I’ve had a moving couple of days [low-ley Mamamoo insert, lol]. It was so satisfying seeing Yu-chan being so overwhelmed and so overcome with emotion that it just made me happy for her.

I haven’t seen KanoTori yet, ‘coz duh~ Japan obviousness xDDDDDDDDD but I’ve heard great things about it and, frankly, Yu-chan rarely disappoints me (I’m looking at you Henshin xDDDDDD). I had totally forgotten that Hula Girls was a supporting role for Yu, and that One Million Yen Girl was her last lead for a very long time… until Azumi Haruko and KanoTori.

Please, Yu-chan, don’t make us wait another 8 years or near-decade for your leading roles. You know it’s been ten years since Osen and since Camouflage?

Here’s to many many many more years of successes, Yu!

Your one and only Spanish-speaking Non-Japanese-speaking fan. xD

You know I’ve been loving Celeb Five‘s variety outing this year. Their Weekly Idol episode has probably extended my life an extra month. My Durian and Jujube face idols~

ANYWAY~ probably because of it, the YouTube algorithm gave me this clip of Lee Hyori performing Bad Girls at the 2013 Mnet 20’s Choice Awards which also features Ahn Young-mi, who -after making her Celeb Five mates do sexy dances – has become my favorite. lol

First of all, this arrangement for Bad Girls make it so much easier to figure out the patch from Monochrome to Black. Also, the performance. Also, Hyori. Blessed. I remember I was so mesmerized with Hyori during this era, I still remember the Comeback Showcase she did fondly. I’m almost mad Hyori went to Jeju to live her hippie life xD lol But bless her.

I’m not crying, you are.

Did you get to see Faye Wong and Na Ying’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala collaboration? It’s been 20 years since it happened, and this year’s Years (岁月) was probably the most popular segment [like Tang Weiwei’s two years ago]. I do wonder why CCTV hasn’t uploaded the performance on its own (yet).

As far as I know, it’s only available for high quality download on QQ (though, geoblocked), unless… you know, you do your thing.

And now, someone was awesome enough to provide English translations~

Bless them~

Donghae, My Love

February 22, 2018 — Leave a comment

So… I’m going to the upcoming Super Junior concert xD

You know Peru was like, the Kpop Latin American capital back in 2011-2012 when the Big Bang concert happened here. The only Latin American place coz Big Bang was/is huge. SM fans are huge too, but… our concert bubble exploded, our concert infrastructure is crap, so we’ve missed out on a lot of things. Like a lot of big events that I heard were gonna happened, never got to happen.

Last year I just dove deep into my Kpop nostalgia, Mamamoo has drowned me in Kpop and all Korean things, so I followed a lot of Korean variety and groups, and I ended up thinking that SM released two really good albums for SNSD and Super Junior, which also happened to go great back to back. For those who know me, I have a grip with most Kpop albums because I only tend to like the title track (or just one song in the album). Well, in the case of Holiday Night and Black Suit, they’re solid albums with a pace and a feel. That’s a rare occurrence.

I had never really followed Super Junior, it’s only been lately that I learned a couple of their names aside from Leeteuk and Siwon. xD Sorry, Sorry is the only song I can sing to, but lol I did get to see their Weekly Idol appearance and I died looking at Donghae with his platinum blond hair. xD And then he started showing his weepy emotional side, and I was gone. LOL

I’ve been trying to fix my Current Flavors’ age, and I can sense my average age going down.

So close to perfect styling, I’m crying. TuT

Silver, pink, dark brown (white balance seems pushed) bop, long dark.

I’m supposed to be focusing on work, LOL. But Mamamoo comeback news, flood of content. Moo tears, everywhere.

No high resolution pictures (yet), but you can check the Girl Group Zone thread for all the BNT pictures.

Most important quote of Life of Pi.

“I learned at my expense that Father believed there was another animal even more dangerous than us, and one that was extremely common, too, found on every continent, in every habitat: the redoubtable species Animalus Anthropomorphicus , the animal as seen through human eyes. We’ve all met one, perhaps even owned one. It is an animal that is “cute,” “friendly,” “loving,” “devoted,” “merry,” “understanding.” These animals lie in ambush in every toy store and children’s zoo. Countless stories are told of them. They are the pendants of those “vicious,” “bloodthirsty,” “depraved” animals that inflame the ire of the maniacs I have just mentioned, who vent their spite on them with walking sticks and umbrellas. In both cases we look at an animal and see a mirror. The obsession with putting ourselves at the centre of everything is the bane not only of theologians but also of zoologists.”

Life of Pi, Chapter 8.

Life of Pi: The Most Dangerous Animal in the Zoo?

You know I’m a big fan of NHK’s Okaasan to Issho, right? Like, I’ve been watching it for years, I don’t have children, and my Japanese isn’t improving anymore… but I still watch it. LOL I’m still super shocked that Yoshihisa Kobayashi (小林よしひさ) – the guy that does the gymnastics – is still around since my original post a decade ago. He’s survived like two or three puppet changes, and this is like his third round of hosts— Takumi Mitani left a few years ago, and Daisuke Yokoyama officially left last year, giving way to Atsuko Ono subbing for Takumi, and Yuichiro Hanada taking over Daisuke.

I still miss Itou Mayu, tho xD

Anyway, I digress~ during the many changes in themes and puppets, they started showing the Galapico Poo (ガラピコぷ〜 , GARAPIKOPu) segment that begins with an animated intro that I’ve always been a fan of. It’s been years on air, and there’s no official clips (only poor TV-to-CAM captures, because LOL NHK), but I finally found Kuno Yoko (久野遥子) [Tumblr][Twitter] was in charge of the animation. FINALLY.

You know, for a year when I didn’t watch that many movies, I’m doing pretty good. LOL Confession! I haven’t been following award season, it does feel like it’s my second or third year already. I do know that people have been freaking out because all critic guilds and industry guilds have been awarding all different movies.  As the saying goes~ todos parecen más perdidos que cuy en tómbola!

Here’s my Spirit Award one.

Light blue highlights mean watched, hot pink are pending, and green on the queue already.

My favorite competing film this year (so far) is Lady Bird coz it got me in the feels. I wouldn’t mind The Shape of Water winning, though. Considering BAFTA nominations (Producers’ Guild win and Directors’ Guild nom), The Shape of Water does seem to have a love more momentum than actors-backed Three Billboards, and this one also has a strong BAFTA showing.

Fun fact, yo! Darkest Hour, Phantom Thread and Victoria & Abdul are [most likely] the first Chinese-backed films that make it to Oscar. All backed by Perfect World Pictures (北京完美影视传媒) [1].
