takeshi kaneshiro armani 2012

There’s a rare interview with Takeshi Kaneshiro featuring photos from his Armani photoshoot~ You can head over to the Men’s Folio website for it.

Sorry, I’m not going to defend Head Over Heels– it’s a pretty lousy movie… (the trailer is dreadful) but I’ve seen it like a hundred times on TV and I always laugh with it. Even thogh I like Monica Potter and she looks really pretty in here and Freddie Prinze Jr. was super cute and totally crush-worthy, I just keep coming back for the model jokes. Physical and dialog model jokes.

I really like how Shalom Harlow’s face shows on photos [1] [2], and I guess Ivana Milicevic’s acting career isn’t too shabby either.

And OMG, China Chow looks so spunky with that hair. Head Over Heels needed more China Chow. especially prancing around with the other models and telling Freddie Prinze she had a black belt to then back off. xD

Why is it so freaking difficult to find a high resolution still of China on this movie?

I’mma be loving this song, which has been included in Crowd’s latest album Guitar (有吉他的流行歌曲, complete title: Pop Songs with Guitar), strangely titled: One Bento Box (一個便當), even though the official name is simply Bian Dang x)

I’ve always loved that he uses — rather random — Spanish in his songs.

After some flame from their compilation of 135 Shots That Will Restore Your Faith in Cinema [1], Flavorwire is back with a new compilation~~~ this time around focusing on faces, their emotions and their beauty… to relative success. I don’t think I could fault them… I had enough with Wong Kar Wai (included multiple times), multiple Zhang Yimou shots (and a double appearance of Gong Li to boot!), there was Park Chan Wook, Guillermo del Toro, Leslie Cheung’s face.

It was a thing of beauty.

The only face I could possibly suggest would have been Greta Garbo’s last shot on Queen Christina, but I’m content.

I’ve never liked Barbie. I’ve never seen a true system engineer Barbie, or a true Barbie chef (don’t argue with me, that Barbie is a home cook!), or a Barbie restaurant administrator — I’ve never seen a Barbie that resembles any of the women of my family (except for my younger cousins)… let alone me. I have never been represented by a Barbie doll, so it’s all the same to me that the Barbie store in China had to close shop.

And no, I don’t think it’s entirely the fault of Barbie being “too strong” for Chinese girls. Sure, some Chinese girls (and boys) may grow up like princesses (or princes) in moderately rich households. But middle to middle-low-income families would still want their daughters to help out at the family’s business as well as getting good grades, or in the case of the very lucky ones just be given the best to reach excellency [1]. Putting your kids through school with extra-curricular activities, it’s a sacrifice… so over-paying for Barbie products would be pointless.

Women today, they can go out and do anything,” her grandmother said. “They can do big things.

And I know the example above may sound like a privilege Chinese girl, but her family’s back story isn’t that of a rich family, considering the girl’s grandmother made her mother work to put her two uncles through their studies. Sounds like a lot of hard work to me.

It’s been roughly… four years. Give or take. It’s been a good ride, and it’s still going strong… so we still got a long way to go. Guys, if you would’ve gotten me at my “good” times, you’d be millionaires by now. Back when I was in high school I bought anything I could… even if I only like one song- I would have bought your whole album for that one song. I’ve got around 30 physical album with music in Mandarin — that’s roughly 7 albums a year… which is about an album every two months. Trust me, it’s not a bad deal.

Plus, imports are expensive…

All of the albums’ artists have their tags on the blog except for SingerSen. I haven’t talked about her much on this blog… yet. But maybe one day in the near future, I’ll add her own tag.

This is also not counting the music DVDs xD so there’s a couple more.

As a fan, I think I’ve been good to Chinese music fandom.

You Me by Hamacide + ChaCha

October 15, 2012 — 3 Comments

Just ran into this song- a collaboration between producer Hamacide and Shanghai singer ChaCha on vocals. The EP — which seems more like an elaborate single really — has different remixes by Downstate, Jared Turinsky, Lightswitch Lafayette as well.

I had tried to resist you all throughout my trip in Taiwan when I was bombarded by your beautiful face selling me stuff from 7/11. How can you be a pretty boy and super sexy as well??

You should probably shave that 5-o’clock-not-a-shadow. It looks pretty silly.

Mandarin Ode to Vancouver Friends

So I had to write a small composition about my favorite city, so I picked Vancouver because it’s the only other city I can freely talk about. I wrote 130 characters — give or take — and made me realize just how much you can say on Weibo in 140 characters. Once I have a better handling of words, I might really do 140 Chinese characters music and movie reviews on there~

Mind you, this hasn’t been grammatically checked. xD
