I know… Letterboxd is trying to get me to pay~~~

Though I’m still kinda mad that they reset my movie-view count a few couple of hours before midnight, I do kinda appreciate their stats~

letterboxd-2015-review

Being the obsessive compulsive person that I am, I was kinda disappointed that I didn’t reach my 1000hrs of movie-watching, but was also glad because it turns out I’ve spent like 11% of my year watching movies. That’s like more than a whole month during a year. I’m so glad I’ve taken up exercise while watching movies xD

According to this, my bias Zhao Wei was my Most Watched Actor –though I’m missing actual numbers, I think I saw 8 films with her (including cameos) — and about 6 Anurag Kashyap movies (without the ones he’s produced). That doesn’t match the 23 movies I watched of Tabu in 2014 (LOL), and the 13 movies prior to that.

But overall, these skin-deep newsletter shows a good reflection of my movie-watching~ a little bit Chinese, a little bit Indian, a little bit European, a little bit of animation, and some Taiwanese melancholic rom-com.

Yu Aoi is old enough to have a daughter… from the future for this latest CM.

For some reason, her daughter has her same hair-styled bun and that adorable fuzzy hairline that everyone loves. Otherwise~ good casting! Why need a dad when your kid looks just like the mom!

Also, I hope this doesn’t disappear because Japanese brands have this crazy idea that they can delete videos and accounts once the commercial’s season is over. No, people, these stay.

Are you following Doona Bae on Instagram? I don’t have an account, but of course I made my way through the RSS feed. Also, did you watch Sense8 [español tambien] already? Did you fall in love with Doona all over again? Because I did.

Yu-chan doesn’t get much social media play, but she showed up in (Twitter via) the Facebook page of the Isenoumi Sumo Stable (伊勢ノ海部屋) (WHY is it called a stable?). It takes me back to that Glee Japan commercial, ne?

Seriously, these magazine names.

Anyway, Tabu’s heavier on promotions for Haider, and this time talks about her decision of doing Jai Ho after Life of Pi, going back to her filmi roots, the amount of work and dedication it takes to direct a movie, and sets the record straight on her image:

Personally, I have a very boring life. I don’t have many interesting hobbies and pursuits, though I often think I should cultivate some. I travel a little bit. I don’t like to read. I write a little bit, mainly personal notes about various topics. I don’t watch TV or movies though I like going to the theatre as recreation, to eat popcorn and hang out with my friends. I am trying to figure out what my true passion is and that should be interesting to unearth.

There’s also a whole lot other interviews [Mid DayIndian Express, The TelegraphTimes Now, Absolute India, Hindustan Times] with varying degrees of back and forth on her being shy/a recluse, boring or a party-goer, not being a reader, being a traveler, and choosing projects because the people or money are good or not.

However, this briefing with Deccan Chronicle does mention a bit of her rapport with her nephew Fateh, and her apprehension for joining social media, as well as a bit of talk on how people perceived her sister and her, and how things turned out to be. So I’m gonna go Chris Crocker for a moment and say “Leave Tabu Alone,” just let her be single for god’s sake. Seriously, and the moment she ever gets married- the moment THAT happens, people are gonna be up on her business if she’s pregnant and/or will she adopt.

People kept pestering Rani when she’d be getting married, and the moment she does, things shift to whether she’s pregnant. Girls can’t catch a break.

Anyway~ I do gotta admit, I’d rather prefer it when my biases don’t show up on social media, but I’m an old person now. LOL

If FIFA’s World Cup is making me choose between Pitbull and Ricky Martin. Okay, I’ll take this~

NHK got Shiina Ringo to make a song for their coverage of the event, and that’s all we need to know. I’m not sure what’s the coverage is gonna be like down here (cable or networks), but I’m sure we’re stuck with Pitbull.

I just knew songs were gonna suck when they started announcing the social media contests to “create the song” for the World Cup. Cheap music will always be cheap.

Facebook has always been crappy with most image uploads that aren’t necessarily photographs uploaded onto their albums. Forget uploading clear shapes and illustrations without adding noise to them, they’ll look pretty hideous. [example]

Recently, I noticed that Twitter had changed it’s picture upload to include the ‘:large’ suffix once you enlarge a photo to see its (Twitter max) full size. However, I also noticed a change in the way pictures are uploaded and that clear shapes and chunks of colors (hence illustrations) were also uploading in some dreadful quality. [example]

They’re especially rough on reds.

On the contrary, Weibo (instead of saying ‘a Chinese Twitter-like version’ let’s call it ‘Twitter on Steroids’) does a super (and I do mean SUPER) crisp upload, plus adding the customary Weibo URL, username and Weibo logo fix. No one can beat them. The only (kinda) sad thing about the modifications in the Weibo picture upload is that with implementations of galleries (that Facebook has also implemented not long ago), people have stopped making image collages.

If more people I knew were on Weibo, I’d be more active there.

Trying out Letterboxd~

March 3, 2014 — 2 Comments

In a state of MUBI panic, I opened a Letterboxd account.

Okay, I did more than just try it out. I spent a few couple of hours coordinating my rating from both IMDb and MUBI, and I’m pretty much done with anything that’s not between 2000-2009. With top ratings from 2010-2012 and all ratings from 2013.

I still miss Favorite Cast Members and Directors and lists from MUBI. Also a “favorite” seems to be quite different to “a like” in my lexicon.
