  • Okaasan to Issho – (おかあさんといっしょ)

When my family first got cable, I remember watching NHK. Now, as a person who doesn’t speak Japanese at all, and being a Japanese wannabe… the only programs I could actually follow sans subtitles were kid shows. One of them is the long-lasting Okaasan to Issho, which apparently began showing on October 5h, 1959. I think the first time I saw the show was in 1999… or I could be wrong and be 1998. Anyway, if you don’t know about it… it’s like hmm, Menudo meets Sesame Street, but for really really small kids. I’m guessing 2-3 years old. The show has been inventing and re-inventing itself throughout the years. Changing life-size-puppets, and hosts in their many years. (more…)

  • My Reasons Why the 90’s Ruled or Not – Part V

I cannot utterly believe WHY I’m posting this, but… while rummaging through my dusty albums, I discovered the first album I ever EVER bought, back when I was 10? This is WHY we love the early to mid-90’s because the 90’s were tacky… if the 80’s were tacky in American and the rest of the world, we certainly caught up in the 90’s, people.

For past reasons of why they ruled, check the following links:

    Part I
    Part II
    Part III (Disney Edition)
    Part IV (Ruth rules Edition)

Forget about leg-warmers, puffy hair and big glasses… though Beals and Matlin certainly blossomed. *tsk tsk* – My 90’s were tacky… flamboyant primary-colored suited boy bands waving and wooshing their flamboyant fans while singing Locomia, LOL’ Or velveted rancheras singing Querida… originally performed by my Latin version of Elton John, with Juan Gabriel. LOL’ But back to the album I found people… (more…)

  • Marlee Quick-Steps on Dancing

Did you vote for Marlee last night? Because if you didn’t, you just missed the chance to vote for her 12 times! That’s a lot of times to vote! Today is elimination day, and two will be going home… but I don’t know how elimination works in the show, so let’s cross fingers.

Don’t forget to vote for Marlee next Monday night at 8pm/7pm Central (whatever that means… 8pm GMT-5 seems to work for my voting) – and keep your fingers crossed for tonight! And how sweet was Jennifer Beals to go and cheer for Marlee? Awfully sweet! Here’s a capture of her waving!!

Here is Marlee doing her Quick Step on Windows Media Video (wmv) format, you will need Pando to download. (more…)

  • Marlee Matlin on Dancing with the Stars

I’m not one to watch Dancing with the Stars on a regular basis, but I saw my first EVER complete episode on Monday because Marlee Matlin was there. She didn’t get to dance yet, but it was worth the watch just because of the quote:

All I can say is “read my hips.”

Marlee Matlin - Dancing with the Stars - Read My Hips

Watch and vote for her people, because she’s awesome.

  • Not Much Love for the JT HBO Concert

Justin Timberlake - HBO - Future/Sex Love/ShowIt’s 1hr. into the Justin Timberlake, FutureSex/LoveShow Concert on HBO Latin America. You can guess by me writing. Not enjoying it too much. Rock Your Body just began… looks promising, more on that later.

The concert began slow with FutureSex, and shortly interrupted by a black screen, and Like I Love You/My Love – that one number was good. Exciting, but then the show went down the drain for me. Can’t really say I enjoy much JT’s ballads… the whole playing instruments part is kinda nifty, but let’s just say I’m not paying to see him play any instruments… well, I’m not paying. But I wouldn’t go to his show to see him sit on his squeaky-bum… I wanna see some jumping around, and sweat… loads of breathless chorus with some playback on.

So, Amy’s not big on the whole slow jamming Timberlake does, and Rock Your Body begins, but doesn’t deliver. The next guitar-driven JT ballads are kinda alrite to listen to, snorted a bit on the whole Nsync back-in-time Gone performance, and I still think Justified is a better album than FS/LS.

If you enjoyed the whole FutureSex/LoveSound album, there’s a chance u might like this show. However, I’m one of those who just enjoyed about 5 songs of it, I’ll just stick with the downloads… not worth my DVD $$. I can live without having this in my collection, and can probably live without being in one of his concerts. Besides, JT’s got enough $$, so he won’t mind me I bet…

Anyway… loads of “ohhs,” “ooh!,” “ahhh,” “moan moan,” lick a finger over here… have a drink there, have a thrust “whoa…” how about a little rub ooh! I’m freaky, ask Julyssa if you want xD I need me some innocent sounding pop music…

Image of the concert, totally cool. Dig the giant screens where you can see JT’s giant face and the giant spirits of gospel chorus. The band was good, JT’s voice… hmm, not on the plus side. Dancing wasn’t too cool either… random shots on random bimbos not knowing lyrics to the songs, totally snort-worth. Backstage camera? I dunno…

    Visuals: 4/5
    Voice: 3/5
    Dancing: 3/5
    Music: 4/5

    Overall: 14/20

  • put on some clothes, woman!

So, just about 20min ago, Britney did her ‘comeback’ performance on the 2007 VMA’s – there is just something that sums up what’s on my mind. WHAT A JOKE! First impression was; EWWWWWW.

She looked terribly wrong in that outfit, and let’s just say she needs to realize she’s not a hot momma, and that she’s a mother of two. She can’t keep wearing this crap and think it’s hot. Looking at her with that outfit was like watching a mom wearing a leotard… just plain disgusting.

Then, after having a first impression and terrible opinion of her wardrobe, let’s talk about the performance. First, I’m not so into the song… but hey! There was still a slim chance she might give a rocking performance… oh, how I wished that! Let’s see… she barely sang anything. BUT, you might say what about her dancing? I mean, 7 years ago she had pretty awesome choreographed dances~ yeah, well… that was 7 years ago.

Nothing is left of her dancing abilities. This time around, she barely moved around the stage, while wearing thin-needle-heel shoes… and when she tried to move in any way that faintly resembled past-Britney, she failed miserably with sluggish movements that looked horrible on screen. I won’t even get into saying how this combination of music, dance moves and wardrobe looked with her new mommy body.

    Enough said.

  • The Music Vid-Turned Short Film Invasion!

Well, my music video knowledge is very limited, but these are a couple of the trivia that I know by heart:

    • The first EVER music video aired on MTV was “Video Killed the Radio Star” by, if I recall correctly, The Bugles.
    • “Thriller” by Michael Jackson was the first ever Music Video-Turned Short Film.
    • The first ever Music Video I remember watching is “Remember the Time” by Michael Jackson – another short film/music vid!
