Recover your Sense of Wonder

February 20, 2010 — 1 Comment

When I was a little kid, my parents once gave me a chemistry set. It had the little microscope, and test tubes, with different chemical components… until one day, I mixed something that turned black and it blew up. LOL Later, my parents gave me a magic set that came with a magic wand and a bunch of other stuff.

It was around that time that Frecuencia Latina used to show the David Copperfield shows, and I remember him flying out of whatever venue he was performing at. “WOW!” I thought, “he really can fly!”

Ever since those days, I haven’t experience magic with that innocent sense of wonder. Sure, David Blane was pretty good when he started out — he’s rubbish since he started that surviving in the tank act — and Criss Angel is okay, but I’ve never really warmed up to him or his show.

Now I’ve finally found out about Lu Chen (Liu Qian), a Taiwanese magician that has given me back the “Wow, how did he do that?” factor that comes with having an innocent sense of wonder. It’s not his big tricks, like escaping from a box that explodes in 60sec. while a truck is about to run over it. Lu Chen’s strength relies on his street magic with common goods like buying Tapioca Milk Tea, buying a T-shirt, or eating Baos on the street.

Thanks for giving me back my sense of wonder.

Tina Few will be gracing the cover of Vogue on March 2010, with photographs by Peruvian photographer Mario Testino. Funniest part? Fey’s Testino accent…

“You look like Stephanie Seeeee-mour.” Her favorite moment: “At one point I was posing for him, and he was talking from behind the camera and he was like, ‘You have to fliiiirt, darleeeng. You have to bee-leeve you are wuuuurthy to be on the cover.’

On the interview she covers normalcy, hand-me downs, mom jeans, power-suits, award season fashion, wardrobe on a movie set… her new film, and much more.

LOL.

Sorry for the lack of posts today. Didn’t know that working on two magazine designs was gonna make my head hurt. Okay, the blog totally slipped my mind today.

Anyway! Someone thought Gaga looked very much like George Washington… so now we’ve got crazy fashion dollar-bill art. I’m not a Gaga fan, though I like her performances. I would love to see her live right in front of me walking on a very normal day just to see what she’s wearing. xD

Look at them over at The Jailbreak.

I’m still trying to watch The Last Station, Crazy Heart and A Single Man just so I can get done with voting for the Indie Spirit Awards, so crossing fingers that I get to watch those before the deadline…

It feels like I saw a lot of stuff these days, but the quantity might not be as much because I also saw a lot of TV shows, which would explain why I feel like I’ve seen a lot…

Oscar 2010 Predictions

February 1, 2010 — 4 Comments

Tomorrow it’s nomination days!

My country is buzzing with anticipation of a possible Best Foreign Film nod for The Milk of Sorrow.

Anyway, I did Oscar predictions last year and I got about 85% of nominations right considering all of the categories, and nearly a perfect score in major categories of acting, directing and film. However, I don’t think I will be getting a score as good as last time.

If you liked Up… or if you didn’t, this track/MV mixed by YouTube user Pogo is still awesome. Mixed from the chords, bass notes and vocal samples of the film, only for our enjoyment!

check out Pogo’s Alohomora. Makes me want to pop my Harry Potter DVDs. LOL

GURI~~~~ HAHAHA

YAY!

EW is reporting Glee is currently shooting the Madonna episode, which includes 10 Madonna songs (heavy!). Apparently, Sue Sylvester will be singing Vogue~~~ and Nicole Julian should totally visit that scene saying “thank-you” like no one but Nicole Julian can…

Also, since Glee is casting the part of 3 characters… you’d better be a guy because Kurt is getting a boyfriend! And also be a prima donna because Rachel is getting an Eve, but she’s really getting some fun with Puck because “Rachel’s a hot Jew, and the good Lord wants Puck to get into her pants” right?

And LOL! At more celebrities wanting to be on Glee… and the J. Lo the Lunch Lady comment.

Of course, if Mob read this blog every day, he would comment “I told you so,” and told me so he did. He pestered me about watching Galactica all 2009, and I began watching it then, but the first season took me ages to finish, due to anger issues. However, I got over them and watched the second season, the third and the fourth.

This is my Galactica advise. Watch the four seasons.

I was told to begin BS with the Miniseries, which was pretty rocking but made season 1 a bit redundant, in my opinion.

I was told to skip the first set of webisodes, and watch Razor… the Galactica film, which didn’t do anything for me. A lot of fans liked it, but it didn’t do much for me.

Finally, I was told to watch the final set of webisodes, which weren’t bad, but didn’t do much for me either.

So just watch the full four seasons, and you’d be plenty happy. At least, that’s what I think from the point of view of a non-fan-girl.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way. I had a love/hate relationship with most of the characters of the show, that’s only due to the great writers of the series who managed to turn this characters into real people with issues and mistakes. Obviously, some of those writers were also involved on writing for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Duh!

There were a lot of transformations on this storyline. On season one, it was all “yeah! The cylons are the bad guys! kill’em all!” However, once the humans (led by the idiot (though fairly elected – what does that say about the people and demoCRAZY) Baltar) settled on New Caprica, and the Cylons establish a sort of… er… forceful government, but a government nonetheless, in which they wanted both Cylons and humans to live together… I could not bring myself feel pity for the human “rebels” ~~~ more like terrorists, I say.

And that’s the thing about Battlestar… and good sci-fi, you can always relate the stuff that’s happening in there with real-world issues. And let me tell you, Battlestar had a lot of good political talks. Ethical and moral issues, and it’s never black and white, and they point it out for you “sometimes you gotta do the smart thing, over the right thing.” At least that’s how I felt during the talk with the idealistic idiot, Fat Lee Adama. A lesson the disillusioned idealist Gaeta didn’t learn on time.

Of course, there’s also the characters… or should I say the female characters? Because, let me tell you that I was annoyed at 98% of the male characters. Except for maybe Admiral Adama… LOL. The biggest turn-around for me was Colonel Tigh whose attitude I didn’t like at the beginning, but ended up one of my faves. But like I said… the guys were mostly idiots! While the girls were kinda rocking, even when they were acting crazy.

Tenga Eggs

January 13, 2010 — 2 Comments

Squishy and Oishii have completely changed their meanings.

Someone at NotCot ran into these Tenga Eggs. Obviously, I didn’t know what they were about until I saw the commercial… but maybe I’m just part of the minority that didn’t know. LOL
