  • More Garbo Fake Criterion

Yay! I’m done with the Garbo films that come on the TCM Garbo Signature Collection. On this batch there’s Queen Christina — my favorite just because of the line about being a bachelor xD — then there’s Anna Karenina, Camille and Ninotchka.

My favorite of this batch turned out to be Anna Karenina, even though it was the trickiest one to do. I wanted to use the train as the symbol of the film, but I couldn’t find a perfect train with the perfect smoke/steam. In the end, I ended up looking for smoke/steam alone… and I almost just use that by itself, but I thought it would look too much like the cover for Devil and the Flesh… so I made a composite image. LOL

I also sort of liked how Ninotchka turned out. It’s completely different to the other covers, except for the Criterion logo and titles, but like I told my friend JK when he asked why Anna Christie was the only one in color – besides whiskey not being whiskey without the color… Anna Christie was Garbo’s first Talkie, so to make it different in a “Garbo Talks” sort of way, there’s color. LOL, but you know… that may be total bull.

Fake Criterion Collection: Greta Garbo Collection - Ninotchka

Same with Ninotchka – “Garbo Laughs” and so the cover is completely different to the others. It’s got more color, the titles and signature are in black. You can check the whole Fake Criterion set on Flickr.

  • Greta Garbo Fake Criterion Collection

Just started a Greta Garbo Fake Criterion Collection, from the TCM Garbo Signature set. The only one I’m choosing not to do is Grand Hotel… and of course, the TCM archives. So I’m only missing Queen Christina, Anna Karenina, Camille and Ninotchka. ;P

My favorite fake cover… is between The Mysterious Lady and Flesh and the Devil.

Fake Criterion Collection: Greta Garbo Collection - Flesh and the Devil

In this one, I like the flame… which you know, I picked from the classic scene where they are lighting their cigarettes and the shot gets so awesome with the light. Of course, I couldn’t find a lighter, so decided to just use the flame. And in it, you can see a bit of that scene if you squint enough.

Plus, Flesh and Devil sounds so sinful and all about kinky passion. LOL Fire, right? xD

Fake Criterion Collection: Greta Garbo Collection - The Mysterious Lady

And The Mysterious Lady plays the whole spy thing. I’m not even sure if the gun fits the movie, it just looked like it did… it wasn’t too “period-like” and it wasn’t a modern shotgun.

It just didn’t feel right to use Greta Garbo and/or the movie stills. It seemed kind of… dull. That’s why I’m kind of disappointed on my version for Mata Hari. I couldn’t find a still of just the head piece, and I didn’t want to use Garbo’s face — as striking as it was — and I was about to use just the ring, but I guess it’s not really that striking.

And of course, Anna Christie plays on the whole “Gimme a whiskey!” line. After all, Garbo Talks! LOL

You can check the rest of the set here.

  • This is my attempt at Classic Cannes Photos~

Only without the Cannes part. xD

The Lima Film Fest opened tonight, at a freezing night for reporters. I saw people shivering, but we had to wait outside for people to go in before us… and you know I don’t do “social photos” I HATE, LOATH the social section on magazine and newspapers. So I decided to take more photos of the sceneries xD

And then camera people screamed at people “please, such-and-such a pose for this side too” so I felt obliged to take photos. And you know I hate using flash, even though it’s so dark… but I like blurry grainy photos anyway… so when I was going through the few photos I took, I thought… Hmm… wouldn’t they look nice in black and white?

So this is me trying some “classic” look.

I’m thinking of writing a 10 Tips for a Better Red Carpet event list. xD
Remember guys, it’s PASO, PASO, POSE. Not PASO, PASO, PASO… OKAY I’M GONE.

Check out the whole set here.

  • Experiment Awards 2009 Winners

    uh huh!

Voting results are in! Which is exciting… and a bit surprising, I think xD

Anyway, thank you everyone who nominated their films on the first round, and thank you to everyone else who took time to vote… hopefully you all had taken time to watch all (or at least most) of the nominated films~ and discovered gems!

Among the love, there’s The Hurt Locker, Basterds, District 9, you know… the usual suspects, plus some love for Moon, Antichrist… and surprisingly enough, Watchmen. ;P

    Here are the winners…

  • Experiment Awards 2009 Nominations

    Behold!

    Nominations are done!!

It’s actually kind of exciting, even if not that many people sent nominations. However, it’s actually a really great way to hear about all these many other films that people mentioned so many times, and I knew nothing about.

Of course, if more people had actually sent nominations, the experiment would’ve worked better. Maybe next time… so watch many more films this 2010, so you can participate next time around.

  • Memories of a Decade in Films

    at Cinencuentro again!

This time around pointing out some experiences while watching those films, which doesn’t necessarily reflect what I consider the best… keyword, necessary.

    Sorry, only in Spanish.

    check it out here.

  • Work in Progress: Best Films of 2000-2009

This is my “work in progress” list of Best of Films 2000-2009. Why a “work in progress”? Because there’s films I haven’t seen, and because there’s films not on the database.

    Best of 2000-2009

  • Amy’s Experiment Awards *Update 2*

    Here’s the main idea post.

And yes, I made it passed the 48 films. I’m nearly on my film #70, I think.

Since it’s nearly December here, and it’s December already in several places. It’s time for a reminder because I haven’t heard from many of you, and I promised to remind everyone.

    • You’ve got all this month to watch films to complete your 48 film-count.
    • Your nomination list should be sent by January 7th 2010.
    • Nominations categories are the same as the Academy Awards, except;
      • no Best Foreign Film category.
      • no shorts (documentaries, animated or live-action)
      • no Documentary Features either.
    • Nominations are announced on January 10th 2010
    • Voting for a winner ends on January 28th 2010
    • Winners are announced January 31st 2010.

So grab and Academy Award nomination list, fill in the blanks except for the categories specified above, and send them my way. ;P
