August 7, 2009 — Leave a comment

Reuters is reporting that Jay Chou has been cast as Kato (previously played by Bruce Lee on the series) on the new movie adaptation of the Green Hornet written and played by none other than Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Funny People) – really? LOL

I said it! Asian invasion!!! xD

The Lima Film Festival began today!

VMA Nominees Announced!
Normally, I would’ve done a different post for this, but I’ve lost my interest on MTV.
Can’t blame me, can you?

Womanizer… video of the year? – oh the sadness. Alongside Spears~~~ Eminem with We Made You, Beyonce with Single Ladies, Kanye and Lady Gaga. – REALLY??? I should really make a Look Back on 2008 Videos, I mean… there should be better, MUCH BETTER music videos than those.

Lady Gaga for the win, even though I didn’t really dig any of it. <- that’s a prediction.

Hello there, Carey Mulligan!
And Emma Thompson, and Olivia Williams…
and Peter Sarsgaard and Alfred Molina – LOL

Looks a bit on the sappy side, but even like that seems worth a look. I loved About a Boy and High Fidelity xD – In the meantime, if you intend to watch this… please also check out Precious (aka. Push) – it will be at the Gala at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Also there…

Kore-eda’s Air Doll with Doona Bae!!!! *squee*
and Bong Joon-ho’s Mother
xD

We’re almost about to finish up with June – still haven’t reached 20 films listed on 2009 @ IMDb… and I’m still way short on my quota to be legible on my own awards.

I thought it’d be interesting to see how this works, so I grabbed the IMDb Power Search Tool and looked for all films listed on IMDb following this criteria:

  • All films must have over 50 votes on the site (you know, just to make the list shorter)
  • I must have voted it over 6.

So I made my list of the regular categories – All acting categories, best animated feature, best director and best picture – without caring about the language they’re in. Just a reminder~~~ this year’s awards should include all categories except for Documentaries and shorts~~~

Here are the ones of the would’ve beens of films released on 2000 – Oscar 2001 –

Here’s the main post.

If you’re too lazy to read that, I said to be eligible to vote you’d have to at least watch 48 films a year. We are halfway May… almost halfway through 2009, and… according to IMDb’s, I’ve got only 14 films listed as 2009. And one of them is a straight-to-video and the other is a short film hahaha. So that leaves me with freaking 12 films in 2009!!! 12 films in half a year, WTF!!! At that rate *I* won’t even be legible for voting on my own awards hahahaha.

Anyway, besides from those films… I have 9 other films that I want to see, and have already (seems like) been released somewhere in the world. Starting with… Precious (aka, Push), The Soloist, Los Abrazos Rotos, Blood: The Last Vampire, Coco avant Chanel, Up, The Young Victoria, New York I Love You… and the soon to be Terminator Salvation.

That makes it… 21. Will I make it?

If you wanna know how well you’re doing, head over to IMDb’s Power Search,

  1. select the 2009 films,
  2. exclude tv series, tv movies, direct to video and episodes…
  3. with a minimun of 50 votes (well distribute films usually have over that number of votes),
  4. sort results based on my vote rating (if you have an IMDb account)
  5. search!

Other interesting films not-yet-released here.

Formerly known as “Push,” Precious was the winner of this year’s Sundance Film Festival Audience Award, and the Grand Jury Prize for Best Drama. Based on the novel Push by Sapphire, it tells the story of a teenage girl named Precious living in Harlem…

Movie looks good… PLUS! they say Mariah can act. LOL

Okay, last time Marcia totally blew up in my face – but that’s hardly my fault, right? But nothing to lose on supporting Toni Collette now…

Toni Collette - For Your Consideration

No one could play 4 characters like Toni does. xD From crazy obnoxious T, to proper but scary Stepford wife Alice, to weeny-less Vietnam vet Buck – LOL, I love Buck. Oh, and don’t forget ‘it’. Toni can play “it” too.

It’s early for award season, yada yada yada~~ I know, but these turned out pretty nice, no? Free to post out and about if you are a fan of the show, or Toni, and feel she should be Best Actress next. Here’s the complete set~~ INCLUDING, one more of Tara and the alters group, one of T, one of Alice, and one Buck. Oh, how I wish there was a picture of Gimme or whatever ‘its’ name is spelled.

Yu Aoi - 2009 - Rookie of the Year Award CeremonyRookie? LOL’ I don’t think she’s a ‘rookie’ perse but okay… I’ll take it!

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan has named Yu (in the fields of Media and Fine Arts) their Rookie of the Year Award (Movies).

On why they are giving this award to her, they talk about her debut on the Shunji Iwai film All About Lily Chou Chou, and her steady career throughout the years mentioning Hula Girls. They also mention her work on One Million Yen Girl the past year, as well as her natural talent. Finally, they close their paragraph saying that Yu’s future is expected with much anticipation.

Or something like that…

Also named there in the field of Public Art, Shiina Ringo!!!! Like… Rookie?? Again~~

Sorry, no photos~~

*update March 30th* – Added a photo from Yu’s site.

*update May 20th* – Added a link to video. Check it out after the break…

Experiment Awards 2009

February 28, 2009 — 11 Comments

Just for experiment purpose ONLY. Picking nominees during award season is a tough job, considering the people in charge have to sit through hundreds of films in a certain period of time to just pick them… then they probably have to see them once again to refresh their memories and pick a winner.

Even like that, there’s still people upset about not nominated and nominated films… right? You know who you are~~ Stop complaining and do something.

Amy's Experiment Awards 2009

That’s why I wanted to do some experimenting… have our own awards. Well, no~ we don’t have the money to have famous people… or to have a proper ceremony, or to make our own awards to hand out physically. Actually, we have nothing but our will to watch films, comment and try to get others to watch those films, but that will be enough~~ I think.

These would be the rules for films:

  1. All films, regardless of language, are eligible
  2. Only movies listed on IMDb on the year of the award, or released between February January to December in any city of any country around the world are eligible.
  3. Films with a very limited release, and/or problems with distribution will likely have points for them and might be eligible for the next two years.
  4. Since all the nominated films could be foreign, there will be no “Best Foreign Film” award.
  5. Sorry. No documentaries or shorts at the moment.

Rules for the voters:

  1. To be able to nominate the films you watch throughout February to December, you must AT LEAST watch one movie a week. That means at least 48 movies that year. Of course you can watch all 48 films in December instead, but that’d be rushing it, no?
  2. Each voter must do their nomination (5 nominees per category) list by the first week of January (January 7th, duh).
  3. Official nominations will be announced three days later on January 10th.
  4. Voters will be able to choose their winners from January 11th to January 28th, allowing them to re-watch their nominations and/or watch the nominated films they couldn’t watch before.
  5. Winners will be announced by the end of the month on January 31st.

Hmm… I think I covered most of all. If I have forgotten to deal with something, let me know on a comment or an e-mail. Also, if you’re interested in becoming a voter, make sure you do the same… e-mail, comment… anything. The more, the better the experiment will run, right?

BAFTA Winners 2009

February 8, 2009 — Leave a comment

Paving the way to Oscar… BAFTA were just handed out~~ My private predictions weren’t too far off, scoring 15/20… considering this is my first BAFTA prediction, I think I did ok~~

Slumdog got 7 out of the 11 nods it had, including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay and Score – Benjamin Button didn’t leave empty handed either (finally!, lol) – It took home 3 out of 11 nods, all in technical categories such as Best Visual Effects, Makeup and Production Design (which is Art Direction).

Kate Winslet pushes forward as the favorite in the  Best Actress for winning for The Reader, Heath… well, like, is that a surprise anymore? I’m sure a lot of America will tune into Oscar night to see Heath winning. And Penelope Cruz pushes forward for an Oscar win as Supporting Actress for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona – and well, Mickey Rourke~~~ MAN, that’s a tough one to call. Sean or Mickey?

Animation was a tough category, WALL-E ended up victorious against AWESOME animated films, Persepolis and Waltz with Bashir, which also lost Best Foreign Film against I’ve Loved You So Long (Il y a Longtemps que Je t’Aime)

Read the whole list of winners here.
