  • Khamatova for Flying Animals

I ran into this clip of Chulpan Khamatova, which I thought was a Behind the Scene voice-over session for some animation, but turns out to be a music video with Khamatova (alongside Andrei Makarevich, Vyacheslav Butusov and Sergei Makovetsky) singing. Multi-talented, I tell you [1].

The song is called My Letin (Мы летим) — which translates to We Fly — and is a song included in the series Flying Animals (Летающие звери, Letayushtie Zveri), an animated charity series that aims to aid children with their treatments with the show’s profits. They don’t ask for money, they generate it by selling their products.

You can check them out on Facebook, VK, LiveJournal, SoundcloudTwitter, Instagram, their official site at FlyAni.ru, and -of course- YouTube.

  • GoldieBlox’s Princess Machine

A while back, there was this cool crowdfunding project to develop a game for girls and incentivize careers such as engineering, instead of the same-old same-old games on playing mommy and princess.

After a legal back-and-forth with the Beastie Boys and the use of the original audio track [1], GoldieBlox took a step back and just removed the song parody. The result is still awesome.

The same time who did the OK Go music video This Too Shall Pass, taking us once again into a Pythagoras’ Switch throwback.

  • Deserts Chang’s You Were Here with Me

It’s been nearly two months since my dad’s passing, and this Deserts Chang song came in my iPod’s playlist. Titled You Were Here with Me (我想你要走了) in English… it seems to be a contradiction with the literal translation. I know ‘wo xiang ni‘ means “I miss you” but wouldn’t the literal translation be “I want you to go“?

    Loneliness is hovering over me
I watch clouds rising, rain falling
    My mood is getting down
    My mood is getting down

Perhaps at the exit of Dream
Peace has embraced outpouring of emotions
In the blink of an eye it dawns on me
In the blink of an eye it dawns on me

    You’re about to go
    You’ve said it all
    ((Your) life story is finished.)
You’re about to go, you’ll be happy

Perhaps at the exit of Dream
Peace has embraced outpouring of emotions
In the blink of an eye it dawns on me
You said you wanted a pillow that you could sleep to your heart’s content

  • Google Search: Reunion

Oh wow, I’m even very moved.

I know very little about the history between India and Pakistan, except for the passing talks within some of the movies I’ve been watching. Still, I was moved to nearly tears (I’m still emotional). It follows Google’s search formula, but it’s probably the most moving of their commercials.

And it comes with multiple subtitles!

  • Khamatova for Pepel

I actually am not sure whether Pepel (Пепел) is a series or a TV movie. It doesn’t seem to be a theatrical film, though. It’s supposed to air on October 27th (so about now) in Ukraine and on the 28th in Russia (through Channel 1). If my reading is okay, this seems to indicate that Pepel is a 12-episode series, and its got the whole historical war mystery setting.

The show stars Yevgeni Mironov, who also worked with Khamatova in Dostoevsky, as the title character, alongside Vladimir Mashkov, Elena Lyadova, and Sergei Garmash. I’m not sure who Khamatova is supposed to be playing.

I wonder if it will eventually get subtitled.

  • Diana Arbenina’s Idi Ko Mne is Finally Out!

That close-up on Chulpan Khamatova’s flawless face is perfection.

Though I don’t think that these ten months worth of wait after the release of the Making Of [1] back in January make the video good, I’m happy the video is finally out. I haven’t been able to find an official HD upload of it, so this fan upload will have to do for now.

    — edit —

There’s an official upload, but surprisingly it isn’t in HD either.

  • I Miss You So Much, Dad

Next week, it’s crazy, will be the first month my dad has been gone. Though the shock of losing him seemed to block my mourning for him, as the days have gone by, it’s been harder and harder. Specially this past Sunday. It was my fourth Sunday without seeing him… and I don’t get along with #4s. Today I woke up thinking that maybe I could hear his ringing my intercom the way he did so I knew it was him downstairs.

Music has been my blessing and my curse. It often distracts me from wandering into sad territory, but it also reminds me of him. “He would like this,” “I saw this with him,” my mind often thinks. Trying to make sense, over-thinking about it, it seems destiny has been sending me signals throughout the year. First through a Chinese Horoscope scare, and other little bits and pieces of mementos.

Father and daughter movies, songs being played at key moments and words left as token of peacefulness. The day before my father passed away, when he was in good spirits and I was visiting him, he said he had led a good life and that if he had to go, he could go tranquil. I didn’t know then that I wasn’t going to be able to give him a mix of his favorite group [1] to accompany in his hospital stay.

After my uneasiness started that day, I looked up at the sky and told my dad that if he had to let go, he could. Fifteen minutes later, I was informed of his cardiac arrest. It wasn’t more than 20min in the trauma room, when I knew that he’d decided to let go.

Luck will have it that I didn’t get to watch Talaash until after my father passed.

    I feel the need to over-share so I don’t wallow in self-pity.

  • BiBi and Chris Lee Together!

I’m a little bit sad I have no one else to share this with. I think my dad would’ve loved seeing this clip of BiBi and Chris Lee together after all these years. It’s all gonna be so weird now, I have no one to share all my music with.

    More info here.

  • Khamatova for Neschastny Sluchai’s Suyeta Suyet

Oh, I’m getting kinda good at this, no?

I almost forgot checking out this new video that’s popped up, by Russian alt rock band Neschastny Sluchai (Несчастный Случай) — Khamatova ice-skated to one of their songs #12 — and their new music video for the song Suyeta Suyet (Суета Сует) which translates as something like Vanity of Vanities, perhaps?

The music video is in the style of Her Morning Elegance [1] or Leessang’s Turned of the TV [MV] or maybe Monsieur Perine’s Cou Cou [MV], and it was directed by Russian animator Sergey Merinov (Сергей Меринов) [YouTube].

The video stars Aleksey Kortnev (Алексей Кортнев), whom I just recently found out voiced Jack Skellington in the Russian dubbed version of The Nightmare Before Christmas; as well as -obviously- Chulpan Khamatova. ;P

This also gives me reason to talk about other Khamatova music video projects~ Apparently, the music video for Arbenina’s Idi Ko Mne [1] still hasn’t been released. Add to that: DDT’s Gde My Lyetim (Где мы летим) [MV], which apparently translated to something like Where We Fly. I’m still fuzzy on Russian grammar.

    — Update Oct. 18th 2013 —

The music video for Idi Ko Mne is out. [1]

  • Yahoo! JP: Hands On Search

3D printers keep popping up in news. This time around with Yahoo! Japan developing a fancy module that includes a 3D printer that fuses the visual experience of searching for information with the tactile results of 3D printing for children who have sight impediments.

It’s called Hands on Search (さわれる検索), also read as Sawareru Kensaku.

More info on the Sawareru website.
