  • Jenji Kohan for Aug’14 The Hollywood Reporter

Jenji Kohan did a very good interview for The Hollywood Reporter where she talks about her journey as a spec writer, her stints on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Friends, her experience with Weeds and Orange is the New Black. All with a fabulous cover with colorful hair, because, as her mother put it “if you can’t fix it, decorate it.

  • Candid Joan~

I don’t think you get to see this relaxed version of Joan Crawford very often. It’s so freaking rare that she allowed someone to photograph her like that, even if it was for Life Magazine. It’s almost as if early 1930s Joan was back.

  • Xiami + Chinese Indie Music Compilation Xun Guang Ji

    xiami-xun-guang-ji-seeking-light-collection

Xiami had been pimping a new project they had going on for the last couple of days, and they’ve just revealed that it’s a 2-disc compilation featuring Chinese-Taiwan-UK Beijing-based indie artists. It’s a pretty good set that I’ve freely translated as the Seeking Light Compilation (寻光集, Xun Guang Ji) or in Español- Colección Buscando la Luz.

See, this is what happens when you have no official ‘christian’ name.

Check my English and Español announcements for translated group names and songs. Looking forward to exploring everyone’s discography.

You can get the album on Xiami.

  • In Progress: 2014 Film Count

This is the first time in my movie-counting life that I’ve seen over 50 movies by the middle of the year. As a general number, I picked 48 a year, to make sure I -at least- watched one film a week for my end of the year list.

    amys-2014-film-count

There’s a LOT of bad and meh movies so far, but there’s also a decent Top10. Not unbelievable, but decent. It’s a working one that would do for a Dec.31 or Jan.01 publishing date. LOL

  • Sexy Ranveer Singh for Filmfare Jan’14

I’m trying to fight it, but I don’t think I can at the moment. Here’s Ranveer Singh in all his sexy relaxed glory. Interestingly enough, I prefer him with facial hair.

    Like unspeakable attraction right there.

    Also, no photographer credits found.

Also as a Latin American with b/v pronunciation and listening issues, I’m having a hard time figuring out when people refer to Ranbir or Ranveer because people (in India) don’t care for freaking last names. LOL

  • Why Can’t We Have More of This: Yu Aoi + Kim Soo Hyun

I didn’t realize this was THIS old, but why isn’t anything else happening with this much perfection together? Seriously. Nearly three years after the launch of Madfory magazine in October 2011. Three freaking years!

You know you want it- another quirky romantic dramedy by Park Chan-wook starring these two.

  • Congratulations on your Happy Wedded Life, Zhou Xun and Archie

A couple of hours ago Zhou Xun updated her Weibo page with a photo that currently has more than 150k likes, over 90k forwards, and a little over 40k comments… and that’s only counting on her page without other people’s forwards (I’ve seen Leehom and Shu Qi well-wishing) and other media.

So Zhou Xun got married without fuzz [1], just like Gao Yuanyuan did with Mark Chao. Or maybe it seems without fuzz because I don’t bother reading celebrity gossip in Chinese… but I’ve seen people who do follow Chinese gossip surprised.

In any case… congrats Zhou Xun and Archie!

  • Isabella Rossellini’s Green Porno, Seduce Me and Mammas

Finally got my full fix of Isabella Rossellini’s Green Porno web series, as well as Seduce Me, the following Green Porno series, and this year’s Mammas. It’s all worth it, though I felt that Green Porno – Bon Appetit got a little bit preachy and lost the consistency of the other shows.

Sometimes I wonder why region restrictions still exists. It’s definitely taken me too many years to watch this.

  • I Need This in my Life

Chris Li Yuchun, Amber, Jing Chang and BiBi together one one stage for once in my life. Not even performing together, just standing one next to the other.

  • These Are My Movie Dads of 2013

… or maybe I’m just projecting too much, but I thought 2013 had a lot of Father/Son-Daughter relationship movies. Even when it wasn’t literally a blood-relation, like in the more clear case between Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi (et Ashida Mana) in Pacific Rim, or the more blurred relationship between Jiao Xu with Mr. Go in Mr. Go.

    movies-dads-of-2013

I cried in a couple of these ones, but I won’t tell you which. LOL

From left to right, top to bottom: Koreeda’s Like Father, Like Son; Miracle in Cell No. 7; Metro Manila; Pacific Rim; Saving Mr. Banks; Silent Witness; About Time; Police Story 2013; Instructions Not Included; and Mr. Go.
