SAG Nominations 2009!

December 19, 2008 — Leave a comment

Sorry for the late LATE post. I’ve been watching WALL-E for the 5th time… LOL – Special 3-disc DVD edition is pretty cool. Totally worth it if you’re an animation/film fan… maybe not so much as a family DVD.

Nominations weren’t much of a surprise though, were they? Perhaps biggest snub, Leonardo DiCaprio? And DOUBLE nom for Kate Winslet!! LOL Big announcement for Doubt with 5 nominations, leading… followed by Milk and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with 3 nods. exclamation!! And The Dark Knight, Frost/Nixon and Slumdog Milionaire with 2.

On the television front… 5 shows lead with 3 nominations (30 Rock included…), and 7 follow with 2 nominations (including House, Dexter and Weeds). Check the full nominees here.

SAG will be announced on Jan. 25th 2009 on TNT.

2008-2009

Where is the Milk LUV? And The Dark Knight LUV? I truly thought that Milk would score a Best Picture Drama, and some other awards…

Is the GG people who nominate a little… mo’phobe? Just saying… isn’t GG aired in ABC? Anyway, there is definitely more ‘conservative’ choosing of films in this one… at least in the drama category.

Click here for the complete of nominees, which include:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt, Frost/Nixon, The Reader, Revolutionary Road, Slumdog Millionaire, Vicky Cristina Barcelona… in the film categories. And~~~ 30 Rock, Dexter, House, Weeds in the TV categories…

And a nomination for Catherine Keener for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Made-for-TV Film, in the film An American Crime (which she starred with Ellen Page!) and totally FREAKED me out.

I just find it a bit odd that Critics’ Choice Awards have been pretty much different to these nominees… MORE NOMINATIONS and WINNERS in the following weeks~~~

And how is it that Waltz with Bashir gets a Best Foreign nod, and not a Best Animated Feature? Waltz with Bashir > Bolt or Kung Fu Panda.

Well… during the past week, every time I’d wake up, there’d be another award nomination announced. Beginning of last week, it began with the Spirit Awards, then Grammy nominations

Then there’s the interminable Top10 Films list around… then there was the National Board of Review’s announcement~ They named Slumdog Millionaire as best film, and included Let the Right One In as one of the Top5 Foreign Films…

Apparently the Satellite Awards nominees were announced on Nov30 –

Today, the Critics’ Choice Nominations were in – There’s a lot of love for Milk, and Benjamin Button… which will probably lead through award season, including Academy Awards. There’s also a lot of love for Anne Hathaway, who will possibly include an Oscar nod for Best Actress. Love for Meryl Streep in Doubt, as well… but apprently no love for Kate Winslet, who was a favorite of many award sites throughout the year as Best Actress for Revolutionary Road, but no love for the film in any of the previously mentioned awards.

There is also love for Let the Right One In, that appears in various lists as either Top Foreign Film, or Top Films of the Year…. I must get the DVD as soon as it’s out.

Grammy Nominees 2009!

December 4, 2008 — 3 Comments

Did you know that they changed the way they announce the nominees? I didn’t. Just found out tonight they were doing presentations and stuff, instead of just naming them… didn’t watch, did you? Anyway, I’m not really impressed with the music… Coldplay with Viva la Vida, REALLY? I thought the album was pretty rubbish…

Viva la Vida got 7 nods, including Record, Song and Album of the Year. Really? Lil Wayne apparently has 8 nods, but I can only count 6… so whatever.

Other nominees include… Sara Bareilles with Love Song in the Song of the Year category – it baffles me how she can get a nod, when Regina Spektor has NONE. Jason Mraz is also nominated in this category with I’m Yours, while Duffy and The Jonas Brothers are nominated in the Best New Artist category.

And I’m too lazy to go category by category, so here’s a not-so-tidy list of some of the names in the list…

Pink, Leona Lewis, Katy Perry, Kid Rock, Alison Krauss, John Mayer, Paul McCartney, Eagles, Maroon5, Alicia Keys, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Sheryl Crow, Rihanna, Daft Punk, Kylie Minogue, Moby, Robyn, Natalie Cole, Josh Groban, Rufus Wainwright, Metallica, Radiohead, LeAnn Rimes, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Juanes, Ximena Sariñana, DLG… etc etc.

Including nominations for the films American Gangster, August Rush, Juno, Mamma Mia!, and Sweeney Todd for Best Compilation Soundtrack. The Dark Knight, Indiana Jones, Iron Man, There Will Be Blood, and Wall-E for Best Score Soundtrack… AND, Wall-E, The Bucket List, Walk Hard the Dewey Cox Story, and a double nomination for Enchanted for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture.

For the long boring list of nominees… lol – you can go here.

Sorry for the delay…

Rachel Getting Married, and Frozen River lead with 6 nods each, including Best Feature, Best Director, Best First Screenplay, and Best Female Lead for Anne Hathaway and Melissa Leo respectively. I’ve heard only good things about Melissa Leo on Frozen River, will she be the Oscar winner next year?? I’ve yet to see both films…

Also nominated… Turn the River and Savage Grace, which I’ve seen. And… The Visitor, Synecdoche New York, Sangre de mi Sangre, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Milk and Towelhead. For the full list, go here.

Back in January and February, I blogged a lot about the Academy Awards films, actors and people~ I had a list of the films I was to watch and had it all highlighted in colors of films:

  • I have seen
  • I wanted to see
  • Repeated film in another category (lol)

I didn’t necessarily manage to watch all the films before awards, but I did watch a majority… minus most the films in the Documentary category, and shorts (live action, animation and documentary). But today it all changed, because I saw all the Animated Short Films, and I will share them with you (especially Julyssa, who is most likely to want to watch them also). The only clip that is not complete is Piotrus i Wilk (Peter & the Wolf), which ended up winning the category.

Oscar Nominees Announced!

January 22, 2008 — 1 Comment

Nominees for this year’s Oscar nominations were announced while I was sort of sleeping, so I woke up to CNN’s news announcement! Kinda surprising on some categories, but take a look at the list yourself.

Thoughts? Marion and Julie Christie got a nod, so I’m freaking out, ha! It will all be decided next week in the SAG… but still then, it’s not for sure. Moreover, Ellen Page got a nod! I’m happy for her because I loved watching Juno, but I sure hope she doesn’t become my upset. If anyone should beat Cotillard, it should be Julie Christie. Oh yeah, one kind of a surprise was Laura Linney getting a nod instead of Angelina Jolie who had been getting a few more nods this season.

On the animated front, Persepolis against Ratatouille. Interesting who will win, I will give my vote to Persepolis but it’s most likely that Ratatouille will get this year’s Best Animated Feature, as Finding Nemo got it against Les Triplettes de Belleville.

Overall, La Vie en Rose got 3 nods (Best Actress, Best Costume Design, Best Make-up) while Atonement got 7 nods. But that wasn’t enough to beat No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood, which got 8 nods each. People’s fave, Juno, got 4 nods… and Away from Her got 2 nods (including one for Sarah Polley, woot woot). Diablo Cody got a nod for Best Original Screenplay *woot woot*

The biggest surprise for me where the Foreign Film nods, which went to films that others haven’t even mention… which is great because it makes it really interesting to guess!!

BAFTA Nominations

January 16, 2008 — Leave a comment

Okay, I admit it… I’m not as aware of BAFTA awards or nominations as I am of the Academy Award, or the GG… or lately, the SAG… but today we had a bunch of nominees~~

No Country for Old Men, Atonement, There Will Be Blood, The Lives of Others (last year’s Foreign Film winner at the Oscar), The Bourne Ultimatum, Eastern Promises are some of the nominees for Best Film and Best British Film. While the Coen Bros are a shoo-in in the Best Director category~ lol’ Also, they are among the nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Diablo Cody is in for a Best Original Screenplay. Oh yeah, and Ratatouille is a 99,9% winner in the Best Animated Film category.

In the acting categories, Daniel Day-Lewis, Viggo Mortensen, and Ulrich Mühe (RIP, for The Live of Others) are among the Best Actor category; while Julie Christie, Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard will battle the Best Actress one. In the supporting roles, Javier Bardem and Cate Blanchett are most likely to win!

For a complete list of all the nominees, please click here!

The BAFTA winners will be announced on Feb. 10th!
