Archives For Comics

Just in time! I just finished re-watching both seasons of Pushing Daisies xD

Sci-Fi Wire sat down with Chi McBride (Emerson Cod) to talk about his new show, and they talked about how Bryan Fuller has shown him a couple ideas for the comics.

The story of the graphic novel makes liberal use of the show’s re-animation concept. “Well, it’s a whole thing about a whole bunch of corpses coming to life,” McBride revealed. “That’s all I know so far, but Bryan was kind enough to share the first few pages. It really looks good.”

“It seems a little darker, which is a lot of things that Bryan couldn’t do,” McBride said. “There’s one particular story that I hope he does called ‘The Head.’ I wished he could’ve done it during the series. It was awesome.”

So obviously, I’ll be reading. And are you reading Buffy Season 8?

Gift ideas for those who love Sci-Fi and don’t know what to give their friend who don’t love Sci-Fi as much. Yes, this is pretty much a pimp and filler post. LOL, but just putting this out there.

My story with Y: The Last Man is a bit curious. I’m not a person that is used to reading comics (or manga) – it was never my thing. I have bought the seldom Buffy comic (prior to Season 8) but just because it was Buffy. It was a chore when, my then roommate told me to read Y: The Last Man. Why? Because he made me do it. He had bought like 6 Volumes of it, and I began to read. I was surprisingly hooked.

It is that good. You don’t need to love comics or sci-fi to get hooked.

Yes, it’s about a guy that ends up being the only man left on earth after a mysterious global blood-burst episode. Yes, there’s a lot of women… and some of them are crazy, but it’s still good.

Y: The Last Man – 10 Volume List

I read somewhere online that they were planning a movie of it, and Shia (yes, that Shia) was rumored to be Yorick. Please, no. Please, be original. Don’t give the dude one more franchise… of sorts.

There’s also a fancy “deluxe” version of the first 3 volumes…

Yes, you can buy these if you’re trying to get someone to like Sci-Fi.
Trust. It worked on me. Also… buy them for me? Ha!

Oh no, I didn’t~~~

Oh yes, I did. LOL

The newest animated McDull film… McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten (or McDull Wudang) seems to have made a bit of money since it’s release in mainland China and Hong Kong.

McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten

In this new adventure, McDull visits mainland China for the very first time, and learns taichi. ^^ – it may all sound so simple, after all… McDull is a simple piggy. But don’t be mistaken, he’s a piggy with a big heart. For some of my thoughts on McDull, read my comments on the Alumni film which has loads of silly but with a heart~

And don’t worry… McDull himself is a Harry Potter fan. LOL – And his mom wanted to write a book too! After all, if JK could do it as a single mom, then McDull’s mom can certainly do it!!! xD

I want more McDull!

LOL’

I confess, I saw “McDull, the Alumni” because I saw a clip of Bibi, and thought it was hilarious. My first thoughts? To tell you the truth, the film is really really REALLY weird. Firstly because it starts out with some peeing contest bathroom humor – because it’s supposed to be a “double feature” but whatever~

If you actually skip that part, the film is better.

Then they tell you the story of George Washington, played by McDull and his mom. George Washington liked to chop stuff, so one day he chopped the soy chicken!!! Guilty he went to his mom and told her “Mah, I chopped the chicken.” His mother in return told him that what he had chopped wasn’t chicken, but duck. LOL ~ Turns out, McDull is a series… and this is what happens when you just watch the films. LOL

McDull, the Alumni is the third film in a series of McDull stories~~~ starting with My Life as a McDull, and followed by McDull Prince de la Bun. LOL But of the three, Alumni is the one that has to do less with McDull. Moreover, a 4th McDull film titled McDull, Kung Fu Kindergarten is set to open in Hong Kong in two weeks time (though apparently it already opened in Mainland China).

McDull… or Mak Dau (in Cantonese) is the main character. Mak Dau is a little pig with a dark spot on his right eye. On the day of his birth, his mother wished for him to be intelligent… no, no~~ a businessman – no, no~~ how about as handsome as Chow Yun Fat or Tony Leung? xD But in the end, she only wishes her son would be lucky in life.

So that’s how McDull starts the journey of a pretty unremarkable life. He’s not the most handsome, he’s not bright, but he gets by~~~ dreaming, trying, failing, and trying once again.

On Alumni, McDull does a crossover with real life, as the Spring Blossom Kindergarten is celebrating it’s almost 50th anniversary, in which they will be celebrating almost 50 years of educating almost 50 years worth of graduate students who have now become pillars of society.

McDull, the Alumni

Awwww, aren’t they cute?

Toda Mafalda by Quino

Toda Mafalda by QuinoWell, just finished reading Toda Mafalda by Quino, which my mom owned but we never bother to finish reading. I only ever read Mafalda on the single strips that are featured on the newspaper, so it was a fun delight to read it all in one go! ^^

Some of the strips are far more fun than others, but nonetheless I enjoyed reading the whole thing as a sequence. I love that while going from vignette to vignette, I could picture friends and members of my family being a little Mafalda inside, as well as a little Manolito, a Susanita, little Felipe… we all have a little Mafalda character inside xD

Though… a big THOUGH – I found the paragraphed text on the history of Mafalda, and other extra info VERY hard to read because of layout, and size of font and amount of info displayed in one page… that’s perhaps the biggest NO in the book. However, doesn’t make it unreadable… if you enjoy Mafalda on your newspaper, you’ll probably enjoy it here as well.
